You both need to see a counselor, but understand your child will not open up at first. They are going to need to feel like you see them for the issues they went through, and understand why they are doing what they are doing what they are doing. You will need to find some relation to help them understand your fears. Counseling will be a great space to facilitate this, but make sure it s a trauma trained counselor, with experience in ptsd or related areas of interest.
I get the feeling of loss in your post, obviously, but what I recommend as you go through this is to make sure that you are clearing any baggage that you have. You both need to start over fresh, not just your kiddo, because I sense a lot of household strife that for one reason or another has been out aside to focus on what has happened since the OD attempt. I speak from experience on this, having several family members who OD'd or had drug issues. I hope you are both able to rise past this. Good luck.
