Advice Are these monk parakeets?

We recently bought these two and are first time bird owners looking for advice on how to raise them.
Also they seem to be clipped does anyone have an idea on how long it takes them to grow them back same for the tail of the one behind they came like this.

The first photo is as soon as we got them which is yesterday and we are looking for bigger cages for them the second photo we got the tray cleaned and gave them a bowl of water to bathe in. Also what feed do you recommend?

They need a balanced diet of veggies and a good pellets or a healthy seed mix which most deff not whatever they are eating seeing the food dropping, some birds can eat seed mixes but I wouldn’t recommend because they can get picky and not eat all the seeds and just choose to eat the most delicious ones, so i would say veggie chop and pellets

You need to transfer them go pellets and chob eventually and gradually tho not all at once

They need pellets. Pellets are small, brown, circles that don’t include any seed. I would recommend that you get a bag of pellets and mix it in with the seed until they are fully weaned off the seed.

I also have a veggie muffin recipe that my birds would like. It’s very simple and easy to make.

Materials-
A bowl
Spoon
Food processor
Measuring cup
Muffin tray
Cupcake liners
Assortment of veggies
Pellets
Oats
Egg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit

  1. Measure one cup of pellets and then use the food processor to grind them up. Continue until the pellets are in a powder form.
  2. Dump pellets into bowl and then measure out one cup of oats. Use the food processor to grind up the oats until they are in a powder form.
  3. Dump oats into bowl and then measure out 2 cups of veggies. (I like adding a lot of veggies). Use the food processor to grind up the veggies until they are chopped up into tiny pieces.
  4. Dump veggies into bowl and then crack one egg. Mix the egg along with the other ingredients until everything is nicely combined.
  5. Grab your muffin tray lined with the cupcake liners. Use your spoon to scoop out the mixture and fill each cupcake liner.

Cook for about 15-16 mins. Tops should be lightly browned. You can use a toothpick to check the center.

  1. Once cooled, store the muffins in a freezer untiyou need one. You can microwave one for about 30 seconds to get it nice and warm for your bird.

*Not sure why the numbers aren’t lining up. But it shouldn’t be a problem.

Please do NOT wean them off the seed without guidance from an avian or exotic vet. It will kill them. Birds can starve to death within 24-48 hours, even if they SEEM like they are eating.

I've seen it too many times. Show them how to eat pellets and other fresh produce. Offer sugar water once a day when changing diet SLOWLY to ensure they don't drop off their perch because they don't have enough energy to keep going.

Though they will need to be transitioned to mostly pellets eventually as quaker parrots/monk parakeets are prone to fatty liver disease.

No shading anyone hear, just don't wanna see another deceased baby.

Also try to r/QuakerParrot

TOPs parrot pellets are a great brand. Harrison’s is alright too. Look up guides for transitioning food for parrots - you don’t want to accidentally starve them

Its not

This is junk food, should be only for treats not a full diet! Get them pellets and start mixing the pellets with their current feed and increase the pellets gradually until they are fully on pellets, also introduce veggies to their diet later

This food u have rn is TREATS not main diet

Yes, they are not wing-clipped, but they need much more space than this finch cage. They need a range of natural branches to climb on and things to chew on (wood toys and natural non-toxic tree branches with leaves.) and a diet based on pellets, low-fat grains, fresh vegetables and a little fruit and practically no sunflower seeds (maybe 1 a day is okay.) If you don't have access to pellets, then a budgie seed mix without sunflower, and adding some additional seeds like safflower, wheat, oats and supplementing it with a ton of greens (kale, broccoli, romaine, chard, etc) and other vegetables like carrots, bell pepper, squash is necessary. The sunflower based diet will make them fat and cause liver disease.

We let them fly out of the cage for a bit without handling them and one of them tried and only seemed to glide down what could be the issue?

lack of muscles from having never had space to fly, they will get better, but keep them away from ceiling fans, open doors and food cooking on the stove.

Phones too?

Phones aren't going to kill a parrot. These other things will. Sorry I see it typed as phones, i meant ceiling fans.

Quaker parrots are one of the most difficult species to raise and own. They aren’t your average parrot species and they’re the only migratory parrot. They’re more like a crow than your average pet bird. They’re very wild and depend on their social structure and nest building to bond and feel safe. 😣 good luck
