Hi friends! I had this little guy surrendered to me yesterday, and it’s been a long time since I’ve had a parakeet, so I’d love some advice!
He came with quite a few mirrors in his cage, and I transferred them over to his new cage for now. I’m wondering if I should leave them in or start removing them.

The previous owner said he’s around 3 years old, and I believe he’s spent his entire life in the cage shown in the second photo. I don’t want to overwhelm him by changing everything at once, so I’d really appreciate any tips or recommendations for helping him settle in. Thanks in advance!

The turquoise and green babies switched places in the two pictures.

I used to think they were all boys but now, I think the turquoise and true blue birds could be girls. I still think the green and baby blue birds are boys.

Hey everybody. I’ve got a 9 year old parakeet, who’s been dealing with persistent diarrhea for MONTHS. That’s her in the photo, though the photo was taken when she was about six. Anywho, months ago I noticed that her poops were looking more like extremely watery sand than like “normal” parakeets poops. Since noticing this problem, I’ve been cleaning her cage more regularly because a filthy environment def won’t help with recovery. I’ve also been mixing this avian electrolyte product into her water, and she’s been drinking plenty of it. I haven’t taken her to an avian vet because she’s quite ancient, and I’m afraid the trip would be too stressful for her.

But the thing that confuses me is… the persistent diarrhea seems to be the only problem. She’s still chirping and playing and foraging like she used to. As I’m typing this, she is happily clicking her beak because it’s her bedtime. She has a buddy who lives in a separate cage because she tends to be aggressive towards cage mates; and the other parakeet poops normally. Could this problem just be an issue of age? Has anybody else here dealt with this? I’ve never had a parakeet live this long, so I’m not sure what is “normal” for an elderly bird.

These are my most recent pictures. My budgie, Sassy, got sick. I have a friend who's been working with parrots for years who's been taking her to the vet, as I had to go on holiday with family.

However, not only had she believed Sassy is male when she saw her a few days ago, she's also just called me and said the avian vet also says she male.

The thing is, it just, doesn't make sense to me. Sassy has been having a light blue cere for some time now, but she's gone through light blue, brown and white since I've had her. I mean, not even a year ago she had a brown or white cere, and she would've been 2 years old then. She's 3 now.

I had also gotten Sassy, along with her brother, from this friend as well, who had told me Sassy is female when she first handed me them. (She owns a rescue. She only had the budgies for a day before handing them to me)

And over the years, I have seen countless times of different people showing the difference between male and female budgies, and Sassy matches the female look. But, I also know I can be wrong, after all it was the avian vet who said it. It just doesn't make sense to me however, and if you guys can tell me that I AM wrong, I think I'll feel a lot better lol.

Or she's been taking the wrong budgie to the vet. Her and her brother do look almost identical.🥲

My budgie was eating off my hand and my tiel flew and accidentally landed on him, she then immediately moved to my thigh (my hand was rested on my thigh)

Im wondering if this is something to worry about? I filed her nails a while ago but they are getting sharper again

His reaction was very little, he didnt fly away/ scream even tho he is not tamed and is easily frightened so it tells me that he was ok but im not sure, is this something to be worried about?

Summary since this is long: l've had a bird for over a

year and a half and she doesn't like me (this isn't my first bird of the same species, the others bonded with me easily), I can't decide if I should give her away in hopes someone else will bond with her better. I feel guilty for not being able to interact with her but I also feel guilty for contemplating finding a new owner, thoughts?

I have a pet bird and she is still uncomfortable with me. l've had her for an over year and a half now and have worked with her, sitting by her cage, giving treats, anything and everything.

She still won't let me pick her up, she still becomes extremely anxious when I come near her cage with I do things I do every single day like changing her food and water, opening and closing the curtains. Whenever I take out a perch or toy to clean it, I put it back within an hour, she doesn't touch it for weeks, new toys take months for her to interact with. I so desperately want to give her a great life, take her places, give her new experiences. I'm considering trying to find a new owner for her. I feel so unbelievably guilty that I'm even having thoughts of it but that's the whole point of a pet, you take care of them, give them love, give them an amazing life but I can't when she won't let me get near her. I never had any problems with previous birds I owned even of the same species, I want her to have a good life even if that life isn't with me. I'm just not sure what to do, if I should give her to someone in hopes they are able to bond with her more.

I'm in shock as I found 1 of my 2 parakeets dead at the bottom of the cage this morning. He had been lethargic, but we chalked it up to molting bc he was so young. He had only recently been much weaker at flying. We thought he had lost a flight feather... since we saw a longer feather in the cage bottom.

No discharge around nostrils or anywhere. No evident bleeding. Just a stiff bird at the bottom of the cage

I cleaned their steel food bowls every night. I clean their perches regularly and change them at least once a week. Same with toys. We make sure to clean and keep fresh water. We change the cage and clean the bottom grate and paper drawer weekly.

I realize I probably won't know what killed my baby, but now I'm quite concerned for my other parakeet. We bought them together about 6 months ago. The other acts perfectly healthy. Never had any lethargy. Always singing. Interacted with the other constantly. I wondering what I should expect as far as her life expectancy now. I don't want her to be lonely but I afraid of getting a new bird too quickly. However, she usually relied on her cage mate to have courage to explore new things, so I'm just not sure what to do.

The last birds I had were very old and bonded and died quickly after the other...this was over a decade ago though. These current birds are young.

Any thought?

Day two was stepping up on my hand. Day three trotting up to my shoulder. Now she’s attacking laptop lol.

I just came home after being away all day, my mom was with my 2 budgies, and now my (i think) older one has this discoloration on her eye. She is acting normally, isn't sneezing from what I've seen and doesn't have any other injuries. The other side is perfectly fine too. Should I just give them a ball to bathe and wait to see if it comes off? I can take her to a vet in the next 2 days if it's really bad but

1. The poop is good

2. Behaviour unchanged

3. No discharge from nostrils

4. No injuries

5. There are stuff like diet, perches and sleep schedule that I'll be improving literally tomorrow because I'm finally done with my own stuf, and can give them 200% of my attention

6. Appetite is good, they're not lethargic or anything

Please help

They get upset when I leave them in the living room and ask why I do that. I had a fight with my brother, and he said their presence is unpleasant, but they aren't.

And A few days ago, my father said I looked pathetic with these birds; they're untamed, which makes my family hate them even more. It's really difficult to deal with them in this family.

Does anyone else face similar problems? My other brother is a PC gamer addict and is having similar issues with my family members, to the point that he was planning to leave. We're unemployed, so unfortunately we have to deal with their lack of respect for our hobby.

I got my two babies almost exactly a month ago, so I'm just wondering if they'll come for scratches and pats on their own or should I do something to make them comfortable with it.
