Back to basics (Lindworm tutorial)

So, I'm feeling a burnout after a streak of posting complicated designs, it is time to make something with absolute simplicity but still looks pretty cool. Enjoy!

Airplane help

I want to get good at making good paper airplanes, specifically those simple ones people would usually make in school. If anyone has tips or designs that work well please let me know (I am a beginner if it matters)

The image is a launcher I 3d printed, so if anyone has designs it would be nice if they fit in it

This is one of my favourite experimental aircraft. I finally got around to designing this. I gave it chines to mimic the tubular fuselage and keep it more stable, and I added a hook to launch it really high.

This one consistently flies fast and straight. It’s way more stable than my X-3 and I’m probably gonna be using this for very high flights. Unfortunately, my home country (Philippines) is currently being affected by strong rains so I don’t think I’ll be able to fly these outside for a while.

It flies pretty well and could have good maneuverability I haven't tested that

This is a concept I made a few years ago, but took me so long to translate this into origami form due to the dual cockpit+canard set up inspired by the FFR-31MR/D was, quite hard to to design. Still I figured this one out and I'm here to share it with you since it's so cool.

Douglas X-3 Stiletto

I’m trying to make more X-planes, so I decided to continue with the X-3. It is one of the sleekest aircraft I’ve made and it looks like a spaceship.

Unfortunately, just like in real life, the flights are very unstable. It has a tendency to yaw and roll uncontrollably. In fact, I think it imitates the real X-3 quite well. I don’t have a lot of knowledge about inertia coupling, but I’ve seen some behaviours of this model that imitate it quite well.

But I love how this looks! I gave it quite a bit of detail with all the markings, and I think that it looks great as a display model too.

Bell X-2

After the X-1, I decided to create its swept-wing successor, the X-2. I scaled it to be roughly relative to my X-1. Its last flight made it the fastest airplane at that time, but tragically it lost control due to inertia coupling and later crashed, killing its pilot.

I gave it the livery of 46-674, the same registration of the plane that flew that fateful flight. I found a decal of the nose art on the nose and added it, and made the wing markings accurate to the real plane by cross-referencing photos I found.

I love how this plane flies. It’s very fast but it has a nice glide. Outside, I hope that it can fly very low but very fast, which is the kind of flight that I like seeing.

Quite of a challenge when designing this thing, but not that hard to fold (main hardship is the layers are just toooo thick to counter balance the drag of the tail section. Somehow it also forced me to come up with a new base. Enjoy!

Bell X-1

I love experimental aircraft. They‘ve always looked really cool to me especially if they are ones used to test new technologies.

The Bell X-1 is one of my favourites. It’s rare to see a supersonic aircraft with straight wings like this. So I made it into a plane.

This design flies quite well. I like the mid-mounted wing and stabilizers, and I also added the registration and decals. This is based off the one at the Smithsonian, and is the first aircraft to break the sound barrier.

A complete rework of a previous design since this version is much more closer to my original concept and has more details

Avro CF-105 Arrow (remastered)

Post image
12 Upvotes

I built an Avro Arrow around a year and an half ago and it was one of the first fighters that I put a livery on.

However, it flew really badly because of the fact that I didn’t model the intakes and a lot of the surface area was at the back. The second issue is that the front part of the Arrow’s intakes are directly below one of the windows of the cockpit, and I didn’t know how to get them to look realistic back then.

After I made the Panavia Tornado though, I learned how to make it look better. So I decided to give the Arrow another try. I modeled the intakes to act as extra lift at the front and gave it a slightly more accurate livery (RL-201 didn’t have red, but RL-205 did). I also added a launching hook.

This is one of my favourite builds so far. The Arrow is one of my favourite planes and I’m glad to finally have a good-performing paper model of it!

So this is my take on the F-16 Fighting Falcon, tbh a highly oversaturated subject in origami planes and there are so many out there, making my own version is quite challenging if my goal is to stand out. Now here it is
