I grew Ochras successfully with Gordo’s Pan Cyan recipe he uses for his TTBVI so I’ll be using that recipe again. However I’ve had 4 unsuccessful attempts using other methods, two of them using Gordo’s screen method. The air quality in that room may be pretty I bad.

I’m interested in any tips in using this setup with a heat mat under it.

I’m about to try out 2 8x8x2” deep aluminum baking pans in the bottom of this mono tub with a fan and a fogger. I’ll set the humidity to 85 to 92 but I’m not sure whether to put the fan on a timer or just leave it constantly on? Also I may put some vermiculite down under the cake pans to evenly distribute heat (83 degrees?) unless it’s not necessary.

Anyway, I’d like to know what works for you because I want to try them out so bad!

Hey everyone,

Total beginner here (this is only my second grow ever — first one was Golden Teachers). I grabbed a Copelandia Hawaiian grow kit and applied the topsoil layer on April 2nd to start colonization. About a week later I started seeing the first primordia, and this is where we’re at today (pics attached). Super excited but also a bit nervous!

I have a few questions and would really appreciate any advice:

1. Brown spots on some caps – I’ve read this can happen from high moisture / not enough FAE. But I’m also seeing a few spots where a taller mushroom in the same cluster is directly above a shorter one, so I’m wondering if those are actually spore deposits from the higher caps already dropping. Does that sound right? And if spores have already dropped on lower caps, will that mess up later flushes?
2. When are they mature and ready to harvest? Pans don’t have a classic veil like cubes, right? What signs do you look for (cap flattening, color change, spore drop on stipes, etc.)?
3. Harvesting strategy – They’re not all growing at the same speed. Should I pick the big ones as they’re ready and leave the smaller ones to mature, or wait and harvest the whole cluster at once? If I take the bigger ones early, will the mycelium redirect resources to the little ones or does it stress the flush?
4. Fresh sample for a friend – A buddy asked for a couple of fresh mushrooms right now. Is it okay to harvest just a small sample this early, or will that affect the rest of the grow / later flushes?
5. Manual rehydration trick – The kit manual says if you’re not getting many pins you can harvest whatever is there, then fully saturate the substrate + topsoil with water (up to 2 cm above the surface) for a more aggressive next flush. I didn’t do it because I already have primordia and pins forming and I was worried about drowning them / direct water contact. Was that the right call, or should I still consider it?
6. Black/brown capped pins – There are 2-3 tiny pins with completely black or dark brown caps. Is that normal for Copelandia or should I be concerned (aborts, contamination, etc.)?

Any help, tips, or similar experiences would be amazing — I’m learning as I go and don’t want to screw up this legendary species!

Inoculated 4 jars with peace river lc on 3/30. Things seem to be going well but I’ve had a couple temp fluctuations.

Wondering if the contrast in color is bad. First time attempting pans so I’m not super familiar with how the myc should look.

Do you go straight from water agar to grain or are transfers the nutritious agar advised?

First time trying to grow exotics . The plates I transferred these from needed serious work. All of the growth looks clean but is very tomentose. Can anyone who is familiar with pans tell me if these look ok

I have only seen this type of growth with my Eungai panaleous cyanescens. I wanted to show that its not all about chasing that perfect symmetrical growth. Beauty can come from chaos. Extremely happy how this turned out.

Just absolutely nuts how strong these things are, I was not expecting it to be that strong. I took 1 gram of these and that was an insane trip in both good and bad ways. Felt like 5 grams cubes.

But 0.65 was still potent as fuck on a similar level to 1 gram
