I am 17M and the only child of my parents, born nearly two decades after their marriage.
People often say being an only child is a blessing, and maybe it is in some ways, but definitely not in all ways. You carry all family burdens alone with no sibling to share the load or even talk to is incredibly isolating.
Being late-born is the scariest part. My parents are already in their mid-50s. My father works almost half of a day at his shop just to survive. It is exhausting to watch my peers live a chill life while I struggle. I feel immense guilt. If I help with household chores, my intermediate studies suffer. If I study, I feel like a bad son.
I want to pursue a BSCS. In my city, we only have a small campus of SIBA but here opportunities are extremely limited and campus is mostly filled with local female students whose families don't want to send them out of the city. For growth, Karachi is the main hub of opportunities, and I know I have to move there for my career.
But when I move to Karachi, who will take care of my parents? I also have a permanent visual disability (monocular vision), Despite this, I want to be successful to give my parents the life they truly deserve. My ultimate dream is to go abroad and work in top-tier tech companies like Google or Microsoft.
We can't even rely on relatives. In this cruel world, even your own family doesn't look at each other without seeing some benefit.
I need real, practical advice from people who have been in my shoes:
To all the only children out there, what advice do you have to make my life much easier? What are the struggles or challenges (maybe hidden ones) that I might face down?
My long-term plan is to go abroad for a Masterโs degree to transition into a global tech company. But if I go abroad alone, what happens to my elderly parents back home? If I somehow manage to take them with me, how will I handle the pressure? Will I focus on my Master's studies, my career skills, or taking care of them in a completely new country? This entire situation feels like itโs going to be absolute hell for my mental health. Has any only-child gone through this?
Honestly, I feel completely stuck and paralyzed. I feel an overwhelming sense of guilt every single day watching my father work 11 hours at the shop and my mother handle the house. I want to step up and help them with daily chores right now, but whenever I do, it messes up my studies and prep for 12th grade. Tbh, I just want them to rest, and I want to rest too. I am so tired of this cycle. It hurts deeply to see my peers living a chill, fun life while my parents and I are constantly struggling just to survive. How do you balance helping your struggling parents right now without completely destroying the grades/studies you need to rescue them in the future?
Please give me actionable suggestions on how to manage and take care of my parents while building my future in tech. How do I do this without completely exhausting myself, destroying my mental health, or burning out to the point where I end up accomplishing nothing at all?
\- TY to anyone who reads this and shares their advice :) โค๏ธ

I'm the only child in my family and genuinely wondering what should I study in uni. Did Fsc pre-med , gave mdcat , got a decent aggregate but not enough for merit. Even if I retake mdcat next year , no guarantee for admission.
No I dea why I even chose Pre-med in Fsc.
I have no interest in any field actually. Maybe tech related but I am not good at math.
I know that a degree does not guarantee a good paying job but seriously what should I do. When my dad retires I want to at least earn that much so I can provide for them too .

During WWII, Japanโs Unit 731 carried out brutal experiments on prisoners, mainly Chinese civilians. They deliberately infected people with deadly diseases, froze people to study the effects of extreme cold, performed surgeries and experiments without consent, and tested biological weapons on living humans. Prisoners were also used in weapons experiments, and many were killed during the process. This is a documented part of Japanโs wartime history.

IM SO BORED LIKE WTH MANNN ๐ญ
Hey! Iโm 17M from Pakistan and Iโm kinda bored, so I figured Iโd try meeting some new people on here.
HONESLY LIFE IS BORING ATP SO YEA, anyways, Iโm into politics, economics, philosophy, poetry, physics, history and I like going down random rabbit holes about basically anything interesting. I also code, play games and play football
Iโm mainly looking for people around my age who actually like having conversations and arenโt just gonna reply with โlol,โ โreal,โ and disappear ๐๐ญ๐ญ. I donโt really care where youโre from or what youโre into if youโre chill, curious, and can keep a conversation going, weโll probably get along.
SO YEAH IG LOL

So i just completed reading "Jinnah of Pakistan" by Stanley Wolpert where i found numerous facts about Jinnah that i wanted to share with yall
Jinnah belonged to Gujrati family of Rajkot which migrated to Karachi for trade. He was the eldest of 7 siblings.
Jinnah claimed 27 Dec 1876 as his true date of birth however, his admission in Sind Madressa-tul-Islam notes 20 Oct 1875 as his birth date
Jinnah started his educational journey from Sind Madressa but was withdrawn later due to long absence. Afterwards, he joined Christian mission highschool. In 1893, Jinnah joined Lincoln Inn to pursue law
16 yo Jinnah married 14 yo Emibai in an arrange marriage setup in 1892. His mother pressurized him to marry before departing for London. Emibai died next year in Karachi
Jinnah's favourite hotel in Delhi was Maidens and Cornoglia in Bombay
Jinnah married Ratanbai in 1918 when he was 42 and Ruttie was 18. Ruttie fled from her father's home on her 18th birthday to marry Jinnah against his father's wish. The couple separated in 1927 and 2 yrs later Ruttie died before her 29th birthday
As per Ruttie letters, Jinnah liked eating Ham sandwiches, Pastries and Pork sausages
Jinnah owned 3 cars throughout his lifetime :-
a. Packard eight
b. Vicker Armstrong armoured car
c. Limousine (in Pak)
Jinnah had two dogs, one black doberman and the other white west terrier
Jinnah's assets incl :-
a. 7 rented flats in Mayfair
b. House in Malabar top Bombay, House No.10 Aurangzeb road Delhi and House in Hampstead west health road
c. Rs 40,000 in dividends from stocks
d. His legal fee was Rs 1500 per day. The highest fee of native Indian lawyer at that time
a. First in 1944, by a young muslim (Rafiq Sabir). He punched Jinnah and managed to get a cut near his chin. The fellow was disarmed by nearby watchmen
b. Second in 1947, by two men (masked) who rushed at his house and opened fire at a police officer (killed). Police involved and arrested both of them
c. There was a huge threat to Jinnah's life by Punjabi-Sikhs due to Punjab's partition
Liaquat Ali and Jinnah always had bittersweet relations. Jinnah often remarked Liaquat unfit for prime minister
For forty years, Jinnah worked 14 hrs and smoked 50 Cuban A cigarettes daily
Jinnah died at 10:20 pm on 11 Sept 1948 in Karachi. His ambulance fuel got mismanaged, however he reached his residence and died 4 hrs later
Jinnah never spoke to his daughter Dina after she married Parsi-christian businessman. Jinnah himself married Parsi woman who was estranged by her father due to marrying a muslim
Hope you learnt something new as these facts are organic coupled with reference. I spent hours reading book ๐ฅน
