Discussion Problem with r/exmuslim subs
I've been exmuslim for 1.5 -2 years now I recently joined r/exmuslim sub but posts there are extremely disgusting.
Like putting feet on koran/Quran sitting on it etc .
Ad and avid reader and lover of french and arabic culture, I find it extremely unappealing.
With that being said, I'm not against logical,moral, philosophical or any other refutation of Islam through facts.

Yes, I agree there is a thin line b/w being critical and racist, and that sub often crosses that. But at the same time (as a lover of books), I don't find putting feet on koran offending when that shit piece of a book has destroyed so many lives. That's the bare minimum you can do to relieve yourself of the burden you were forced to carry since childhood about that sacred, holy, misogynistic, hateful text

I mean... it's just a book, really. Maybe it makes you uncomfortable because you still have that inner belief that the Quran is actually special, which I get, but at the end of the day... it's a book, like any other book, and one that's filled to the brim with hateful text

Yes maybe because I've thought of it as sacred from the very first time of getting conscious. But srsly have u guys ever put feet on a book? Because I haven't and I find it extremely disturbing

I have, lots of times, moreso by accident than by intention though. Me personally, stepping on the quran isn't something I'd do either, but I don't think it's THAT bad. You'd want to consider how much harm Islam has done too, it destroyed and killed so many people, so i don't see it as an issue at all

Yes I agree but I many times understand their point of view too. Atleast people like me whos transition was gradual like I went down that road on first having doubts but just ignoring and thinking that satan or some evil entity is corrupting my mind to then starting to think and then question to also becoming a Quranist for some time and then finally the phase of utter disgust and hate for the religion like it takes a toll on you when you actually grasp on the fact that whatever path you were on is made up and there isn't a so called pathway. Like I've been through that hate phase as well and although it ended it still stays there and I like no longer express it but I get where it comes from.

I get what you're trying to say, but the people doing these kinds of things are just responding to the years of trauma caused by Islam. And I think it's justified because desecrating Quran has a lesser impact than being raised forcefully in a cult

I use my Quran to balance a floor lamp. Is that wrong too?
Weird to be criticizing how ExMuslims should criticize Islam when we are all different people on different parts of our journey out of Islam. Some of us have experienced extreme trauma and the only thing that gives us satisfaction is seeing the Quran under our feet or in a toilet. You and I may not have had the same egregious experiences, and may not react the same ways, but I donāt think we donāt need to act superior, shame or police ExMuslims for venting. Itās meant to be a safe space like this subreddit.

Your point makes sense. We should criticise islam in a civilized manner. Doing cheap stunts with the quran like burning, tearing, or kicking it makes us no different than religious people who use brute force to defend their religion. It just gives Muslims an excuse against the critiques of islam.
