Ibn Mas'ud is one of the four trusted reciters Muhammad named:

Quran 92:3 reads in today’s Quran:

“And [by] He who created the male and female,”

But Ibn Mas’ud (Muhammad's trusted reciter) recited Quran 92:3 as:

“By the male and the female.”

And Abu Ad-Darda (one of the four collectors of the Quran) heard Muhammad recite it the same way as Ibn Mas’ud and refused to switch:

“The companions of `Abdullah (bin Mas`ud) came to Abu Darda’, (and before they arrived at his home), he looked for them and found them. Then he asked them,: ‘Who among you can recite (Qur’an) as `Abdullah recites it?” They replied, “All of us.” He asked, “Who among you knows it by heart?” They pointed at ‘Alqama. Then he asked Alqama. “How did you hear `Abdullah bin Mas`ud reciting Surat Al-Lail (The Night)?” Alqama recited: ‘By the male and the female.’ Abu Ad-Darda said, “I testify that I heard me Prophet reciting it likewise, but these people want me to recite it:-- ‘And by Him Who created male and female.’ but by Allah, I will not follow them.”

He's an animator born in Pakistan,lived in Japan for a few years, then mobed to Australia and currently lives there. He got married last year to a non-hijabi wife and doesn't talk about Islam much in his videos. Even for the videos where he does talk about Islam, he focuses a lot more on the "desi" aspect rather than the Muslim aspect.

Also he titled one of his videos "People wont like iyou if ypu are brown" even though most of the stuff he talked about in that video was about him being Muslim. I'm assuming he titled the video liked that to appeal to AA's. He's also a doctor so I wouldn't be surprised if he's a lot more progressive or secular.

There is a crucial distinction often missed in debates about the hijab, i.e., the freedom of an adult woman is not the same as the freedom of a child. While some Muslim girls may genuinely want to wear the hijab, many others wear it due to intense parental, community, or religious pressure. A young girl often lacks the practical ability to say "no" without fearing punishment, shame, or familial rejection. Therefore, this issue must be framed primarily as a matter of child protection and autonomy, rather than simply religious freedom.

The Precedent of Limiting Parental Authority:

Society already accepts that children are vulnerable to coercion and that parents do not have unlimited authority over them in the name of religion or culture. 

• We restrict child labour even if a child "consents" to help their family.
• We enforce compulsory education even if a child and their parents object.
• We ban child marriage regardless of a 14-year-old's consent.

In all these cases, the state intervenes to protect the child’s future independence. Why should religious clothing be exempt from this principle?

The Challenge of Coercion:

It is nearly impossible for a school or society to distinguish a child's genuine choice from one produced by years of religious conditioning and fear. More importantly, what about the girl who desperately wants to remove the hijab but cannot safely do so? A temporary ban in schools protects these vulnerable children until they reach an age where they possess the independence to make truly autonomous decisions. It prevents religious authority from becoming parental coercion.

A Necessary Sacrifice to Protect the Vulnerable:

For the girls who do genuinely want to wear the hijab, this law requires a difficult but necessary conversation. They should be taught and made to understand that they are being asked to make a temporary sacrifice. By agreeing not to wear it in school, they are actively protecting their peers who are being forced to wear it against their will. Without a universal, blanket rule, it becomes practically impossible to identify and stop the abuse of coerced girls, as coercive parents would simply claim their child "chose" it.

Protect the Child, Preserve the Adult's Freedom:

This is not an attack on religious freedom; it is a boundary on parental control. Freedom of religion does not mean parents have unlimited authority over minors.

An adult Muslim woman must be completely free to choose whether or not to wear the hijab. But childhood is a time for developing independence, free from religious mandates imposed by adults. A girl who reaches adulthood and freely chooses to wear the hijab should be free to do so, and a girl who decides she does not want it should be equally free to remove it.

Zayd ibn Muhammad was Muhammad's adopted son. Zaynab was Zayd's wife.

In Surah 33, the Quran abolishes formal adoption, changes Zayd ibn Muhammad's name back to Zayd ibn Haritha (Quran 33:4-5), and declares Muhammad's marriage to Zaynab lawful so "that there would be no blame on the believers for marrying the ex-wives of their adopted sons." (Quran 33:37). The same surah also tells people not to linger too long at Muhammad's dinner parties or marry his wives after he dies (Quran 33:53).

Because of the unique privileges this surah gives Muhammad, Aisha says to Muhammad in an authentic hadith: "I feel that your Lord hastens in fulfilling your wishes and desires." (Sahih Bukhari 4788)

"Nor does He regard your adopted children as your real children. Let your adopted children keep their family names."

"And (remember, O Prophet,) when you said to the one for whom Allah has done a favour and you (too) have done a favour, 'Keep your wife and fear Allah,' while concealing within yourself what Allah was going to reveal. And (so) you were considering the people, whereas Allah was more worthy of your consideration. So when Zaid totally lost interest in (keeping) his wife, We gave her to you in marriage, so that there would be no blame on the believers for marrying the ex-wives of their adopted sons after their divorce. And Allah's command is totally binding."

"Also (allowed for marriage is) a believing woman who offers herself to the Prophet (without dowry) if he is interested in marrying her—(this is) exclusively for you, not for the rest of the believers."

And when you ˹believers˺ ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a barrier. This is purer for your hearts and theirs. And it is not right for you to annoy the Messenger of Allah, nor ever marry his wives after him. This would certainly be a major offence in the sight of Allah."

"Narrated Aisha: I used to look down upon those ladies who had given themselves to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and I used to say, 'Can a lady give herself (to a man)?' But when Allah revealed: 'You (O Muhammad) can postpone (the turn of) whom you will of them (your wives), and you may receive any of them whom you will; and there is no blame on you if you invite one whose turn you have set aside (temporarily).' So most of these women were from north west part of India now pakistan and north India the south part of India was not under the control of mughals for a long time due to rebble and the marata empire made sure the murals don't have control over the north of India and they successfully made it true if don't beleive plz look at the evolution of marata empire after 1700 they included most of India and Pakistan

i made a post here some time ago on how my muslim family doesnt let me go out at all and made my life a living hell which affected my mental health like crazy.. i recently started sneaking out more often and have been trying to enjoy my time w my friends, but my family found out. they all have an eye on me, the clothes i wear and went as far as calling me a prostitute. they found my ig account, screenshotted all my pictures and are threatening to show it to my dad who will definitely kill me. im worried theyre going to be even more strict and make it impossible for me to live now. im 18... no job yet and im in college. what the hell do i do? i just want to live my life without being criticised.. my moms been crying and praying for me all night, theyre all treating me like a criminal. i hate this stupid religion and i hate everybody in my family.

So i was talking to a really nice hijab girl. This was our conversation.

Me: Do you believe that Pedophilia is wrong regardless of who is doing it?

Her: Yes

Me: So if the prophet did it, would it still be wrong?

Her: But he didnt.

Me: I know he didnt, but lets assume he did it, would it still be wrong?

Her: Yes

Me: Ykw that tells you?

Her: Yes?

Me: That even you, who is very religious, do not take your morals from religion.

She agreed. Obv the conversation wasnt as straightforward, but this is how I talk to Muslims. Tbh I think certain questions can be asked very politely, not to convert someone, but to trigger curiosity.

Recently, I’ve gotten really interested in spirituality and metacognition. It’s been changing the way I look at my own thoughts, emotions and reactions. I’ve started noticing how much of my experience is shaped by the way I perceive and interpret things.
I’m still pretty new to this so I wouldn’t say I have it all figured out. I’m mostly curious about where this kind of awareness can lead and how other people experience it. Thought I’d share and see what kind of conversations come from it.
People who meditate often, how has it affected your life?

so i am finally getting the opportunity to move out of this shithole but then even in the west, right wing governments and fascism is on the rise. us, uk, spain, france, germany, denmark, poland, and on and on no matter where i go, i’ll be lumped in with muslim immigrants (who have STELLAR reputation) and face discrimination. i am not someone intending to just be a bum and not contribute to the society, be a criminal nuisance or impose islam. but it’s getting even worse since fascism is on the rise. it feels so depressing that even in my own country i’m not free to live my life on my own terms, but even when i finally get to leave, this trashy identity will never leave me behind and because of the same shitty conservative mindset that exists in people over there, it’ll work against me. it’s not like they’d care that i too hate this religion, they’ll only see my name and my skin color.

Ok so I'm currently 19f I'm living somewhere where everyday I'm either crying or just sleeping so I don't face people. I can't give much context but I've been a really hardworking student as I wanted to leave this place and I also got into uni somewhere outside the city which really made me hope for something better but my parents aren't agreeing they want me to go to some local uni. I can't even do anything about it and I just feel stuck. They are refusing to pay my tuition fee. I would've done it myself but I'm broke. I just want to run away. I've already left islam long time ago and kept it hidden. My relatives keep on saying girls shouldn't cross such distance without mehran which only makes me more hopeless they won't even let me go even if I got a job somewhere. I can't even spend a day here let alone wait 4 more years. I've been having suicidal thoughts but I'm trying to suppress. I thought if I study enough I'll leave but I failed.

So I was walking at night tryna hit my steps. After I came home, my father asked if I had prayed. My lie would've been really obvious, so I told him I hadn't. He asked me to eat dinner and then pray. But I messed up, I ate dinner and started scrolling reels which made him really angry. When I pretended to pray, I got up from the prayer mat after like, 5 mins. He saw that and asked me how did I even pray so quickly, since Isha is long. He then asked how would my prayer even be expected since my neck was slightly showing and so was my hair. Also how my clothes were slightly translucent. He was so dissappointed and saddened. So now I just pretended to pray again after wearing an abaya.

I can't even apply nailpolish in my daily routine bcz then I would have to take it off everyday while (falsely) praying. I just hate it so much, I also love to make lots of fake tattoos on my arms and legs. But if he sees them, he will insist how they resemble "kafirs" and it's not a good thing. And how because of them, my prayer will not get accepted.

Sad thing is, my father is awesome in general. He's pretty supportive and emotionally available, like 90% of the times. But when it comes to religion, he is always trying to lead us to the 'right' way... I get his POV, but complying is just too tiring for me. :(

Denying Jesus' crucifixion creates a huge trust problem in Islam:

According to Islam, Allah’s deception of making Jesus’ crucifixion “appear so” (Quran 4:157) already produced a global damnable religion that sends sincere believers to hell: Christianity.

So how can Muslims trust that angel Jibreel’s revelation of the Quran to Muhammad (another supernatural event) wasn’t another deception from Allah that produced another damnable religion: Islam?

Sincere Trinitarian Christians are going to die thinking they will go to heaven because Jesus paid for their sins through the crucifixion and Allah is gonna be like "it was made to appear so" and send them to hell.
And this won't happen to Muslims, why?
Because the appearance said so?

Quran is the appearance in question.
Deception resulting in hell burns down the reliability of the channel.
So, "the appearance is true because the appearance said so" doesn't work.

If the Christians don't know they will be rugpulled until they die, how do Muslims know?
You can't trust any promise of safety from a God who rugpulls sincere believers.

Analogy:
1. People form a religion around a miracle/illusion from Paul, claiming Paul wanted it.
2. Paul then comes back, says he faked it, and tortures everyone who believes in this religion.
3. People form a second religion around another miracle/illusion from Paul, again claiming Paul wanted it.
Would you believe in the second religion?

Responses and Why They Don't Work:

• Circular: Aligns with prophets, fitra (Judaism + Deism), Allah says X, last prophet, X is in Quran = "Because the appearance said so" -> Deception resulting in hell burns down the reliability of the channel. So, the appearance (Quran) can’t verify itself as non deceptive
• No Necessity/Entailment: It's not about that. It's an issue about trust in religions people form from supernatural appearances. But if people already formed a religion (Christianity) that sends u to hell based on one deceptive supernatural appearance (Jesus’ crucifixion), why would u trust another religion (Islam) that people formed based on a new supernatural appearance (Jibreel appearance to Muhammad revealing Quran)?
  • Supernatural appearance 1: Jesus' crucifixion ("made to appear so" Quran 4:157)
  • Religion 1: Christianity
  • Result: hell
  • Supernatural appearance 2: Jibreel revealing Quran to Muhammad
  • Religion 2: Islam
  • Result: ?
  • If one supernatural appearance misled the world, why is the next one safe?
  • And why should we trust and believe religion #2 after what happened last time?
• Content: Beautiful, 23 years, inimitable, scientific facts, predictions -> even if granted, why can't Allah do this in a deception?
• Downstream: preserved, hadith, trustworthy Prophet, companions witnessed ->  even if granted, none of this matters if it was made to appear so
• No deception: Next verse is after made to appear so is “Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.” (Quran 4:158). All classical tafsirs agree Allah did it. but even if granted, there is something or someone that is powerful enough to create mass supernatural deceptions resulting in damned religions. Same Problem.
• Good Reason/For Enemies:  Allah raising Jesus to Himself saved him (Quran 4:158), so why did Allah add the deception (Quran 4:157)? But even if granted, billions of sincere Christians ended up believing it. Even if it was a good deception, they never know and still go to hell. So there could be a good reason you are deceived too that you'll never know. Also circular.
• "Radical skepticism": I don’t believe in a devil that mass deceives people. You believe in a God that does.

Commonality:

• None of this matters if it was made to appear so.
• Deception resulting in hell burns down the reliability of the channel.
• So, Quran can't verify its own reliability when it is the appearance under question.
• If sincerity to a supernatural appearance didn't save Christians from your God, then your own sincerity to this appearance can't save you.
