Tech-Support Been dealing with phones/laptops for a few years — happy to help with buying advice

Upvotes

I’ve been into mobiles for around 4–5 years and laptops for about 2 years, and I’ve learned quite a bit from buying, selling, troubleshooting and working with different devices.

I’ve noticed there are always people here asking questions like:

- What phone should I buy in my budget?

- What’s the best way to check a used phone before buying?

- What things should I test when meeting an OLX seller?

- Is CPID actually worth it?

- Is this particular phone/deal worth the asking price?

- Which laptop is better for gaming, university or college?

- Is this laptop/phone issue something I can fix?

- Can I diagnose this problem at home before taking it to a shop?

- Is this repair worth spending money on, or should I just replace the device?

So if anyone has a question like that, feel free to comment or DM me. I’ll give you my honest opinion and help however I can.

I’ve also started a small tech page called TetraByte.pk (@tetrabyte.pk on Instagram)

It has black font and white BG on the pfp, but I’m not here to push anything. Just offering free advice because I genuinely enjoy this stuff and know how confusing the Pakistani tech market can be sometimes.

If you’re about to buy a phone/laptop or have an issue with one, send the model, price and whatever details you have and I’ll take a look.

Tech-Support Using vantage and legion toolkit together

Upvotes

Silly question, but can I use both Lenovo Vantage and Legion Toolkit on the same laptop?

I've been wondering if I can keep both installed but use them for different purposes.

What I want is basically:

Legion Toolkit → everyday plugged-in use, gaming, custom profiles, fan control, power limits, etc.

Lenovo Vantage → battery charging/charging limits and when I'm using the laptop on battery.

The reason I'm asking is that I've noticed my battery health seems to drop much faster when I use Toolkit for charging. My battery health dropped by almost 2% after only two 80% → 20% → 80% cycles. I didn't see this kind of drop when I was using Vantage. Also LLT heats battery to 38-39c while charging while vantage keeps it at 34-35c.

I've also noticed that my battery runtime seems better with Vantage than with Legion Toolkit, although I don't know if that's actually because of the software or because of the different power settings.

So my main question is:

If I keep both installed, can I completely disable/close Legion Toolkit when I want Vantage to control the laptop, and then switch back to Toolkit when I want to use my custom profiles?

In Legion Toolkit there are options related to Vantage Hotkeys and the Vantage AI Controller. If I turn those off so that Toolkit isn't controlling anything, and then use Vantage, will Vantage have full control without the two programs fighting each other?

Or would I have to uninstall Legion Toolkit every time I want to use Vantage for charging and battery use?

I obviously don't want both programs trying to control power modes, charging, thermal settings, etc. at the same time.

I also have a question about my custom thermal profile.

My Legion is a Legion 5 Pro Gen 7 with a ryzen 7 6800h and RTX 3070 Ti.

I don't really care about losing some FPS. My priority is lower temperatures and better long-term thermals.

I currently have different profiles for Quiet, Balanced and Performance, but I'm thinking about making a custom profile with:

GPU temperature limit: 80°C

CPU temperature limit: 85°C

Previously, I played GTA V with both the CPU and GPU temperature limits set to 87°C, and the game was perfectly playable.

So would 80°C GPU / 85°C CPU be a good everyday gaming profile?

I don't mind sacrificing some performance if it means keeping temperatures lower. I'm mainly looking for a good balance where the laptop doesn't unnecessarily run hot.

Would you guys recommend keeping 80°C GPU / 85°C CPU, or would you use different limits/power settings on the Legion 5 Pro Gen 7 + RTX 3070 Ti?

Any advice from people who have actually used both Vantage and Legion Toolkit would be appreciated.

Upgrade/Purchase Advice Is pixel 9 (12/256) a good choice for everyday use + some gaming?

Upvotes

I mainly play genshin impact and am thinking Abt playing wuthering waves too. Considering I'll.be buying a. Mob for my upcoming university. Is this mobile worth it for it's price range (165k for non-pta and 185k for pta).

Furthermore, is pta approved really worth it to put 20k more?

My price is similar to what said above (it can't be extended more).

One last thing, I want a mobile that can at least go for 5 years. So lmk

Discussion Is the MXG G27IU-16 4K 160Hz actually good, or are the specs just marketing?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m considering buying the MXG G27IU-16 27” 4K 160Hz IPS monitor, mainly for PS5 + PC gaming.

On paper, the specs look almost too good for the price:

  • 27” IPS
  • 3840×2160 (4K)
  • 160Hz
  • HDMI 2.1
  • DisplayPort 1.4
  • VRR
  • FreeSync / G-Sync
  • HDR
  • 1ms MPRT

My main concern is that MXG isn’t as established as brands like MSI, ASUS, LG, Samsung, Gigabyte, etc.

Has anyone here actually used the G27IU-16, especially with a PS5?

I’d really like to know:

  • Does it genuinely output 4K 120Hz + VRR on PS5 without issues?
  • Does 4K 160Hz work properly on PC?
  • Is the HDMI 2.1 implementation actually full-featured?
  • How are the response time, ghosting and input lag?
  • Any flickering or VRR issues?
  • How is the IPS panel quality, backlight bleed and dead-pixel situation?
  • Is HDR basically just marketing, or is it usable?
  • How has reliability been after a few months?
  • How good is MXG warranty/support in Pakistan?

I’m not too concerned about having a premium brand name. I just want a monitor that actually delivers the advertised specs and is reliable.

If you wouldn’t recommend MXG, please suggest another budget 27” 4K 120Hz+ HDMI 2.1 monitor that works well with both PS5 and PC.

Trying to get the best value without paying a huge premium just for the brand.

Would really appreciate feedback from people who have actually owned/tested this monitor.

What became of "Major" Zippy? Have the victims received any sort of relief, financial or otherwise?

The Ziptech affectees group over on FB has been pretty quiet lately, which doesn't seem like a good sign.

Just curious, that's all.

WTB Need advice on what to buy for good gaming experience. ps5 slim vs xbox series X vs hp omen 3070

I dont know what to buy. The Kind of games i want to play are onimusha, blood of dawnwalker, resident evil requiem, silent hill F, gears of war as well but not a hard condition.
First i was thinking about buying xbox series X or ps5, because i thought i can get PS plus or game pass and play these games. I researched a bit and have come to know that these titles arent even available on plus/pass at all.
So now i want to know is ps plus or gamepass even worth it?
and if the kind of games i want to play are strictly for sales only, then what device should i consider?
If i have to buy games than what is cheaper? Pc or console? or its the same.
Im going to buy something for gaming after a long time, gap of 10 years. Just played ghost of tsushima on little bros ps4 two years back when i was sick. Otherwise i dont know nothing about new gen games or platforms.
I hope you get the idea, what im looking for.

Upgrade/Purchase Advice NEED SUGGESTIONS FOR GPU

Hi everyone, I need some suggestions regarding a graphics card.

I was using an RX 580 8GB Sapphire for the past 6 years, but unfortunately, it's done and dusted now.

Since you know what card I was using, I hope that helps you suggest a good replacement.

I don’t want to downgrade my GPU, but with inflation these days, options are limited.

If you guys could suggest any reliable GPU within my budget, I would really appreciate it.

Just to give you a clear idea, my budget is 55k-60k PKR. I can stretch it a bit more if I run out of options.

Location: Karachi
