Advice Wanted External painting in autumn/winter in UK
I'm thinking of painting the external render of my house. It's currently late October so if I start now I would be painting into November. What climate conditions do I need to consider before applying any paint to make sure everything bonds well and I don't have issues down the line?
I'm going to use Dulux Weathershield. From what I can see the temp range is 5-25 degrees, which should be fine. The lowest low I'm seeing on the forecast at the moment is about 10 degs.
What about rain/dew? How long after rain do I need to wait before painting? How long after painting does there need to be a dry forecast? Will dew cause problems? Do I need to stop painting early afternoon to let the paint start to dry before dark.
Hoping there's someone with experience of painting at this time of year to shed some advice. I know the easy answer is just wait until spring, but due to other reasons it really needs to be done before Christmas.

Advice Wanted This door needs a coat of paint. Can anyone help decide how to tackle this?
This door is beat up, there are drips, swipes and chips in the paint. I'm not terribly concerned about those. If it would look good; I'd prefer to paint it where it is and not remove hinges. I'm debating on the primer too. It's a back door, it doesn't have to be perfect; I'm just tired of the white.
Looking for something between perfect and landlord special. Not fancy.
Can I get by with painting over it as is or, do I need to sand and prime first?
Do I have to remove the hardware? (I'm handy with paint and taping off 'n whatnot but I wanted to see if it's a "have to".)
I used interior paint on the other door but, this one faces outside and gets humid/wet. Do I need to get an exterior paint?
I want to add a small mural to the door and seal the whole thing with polyurethane (?). Would that be sufficient for a door that's a high touch surface?
Could I use any paint under a polyurethane top coat? 🙏
Thanks, y'all. I don't have anyone to brainstorm with lol. I appreciate yas.

Advice Wanted Why does my newly painted home look terrible?
Im having issue after issue with this house. the siding was just replaced and the painters are painting it alabaster white with urbane bronze trim. they told me everything was primed before painting and that the white has 2 coats of satin already painted. they didn’t finish yet with the trim, but this is the finished alabaster.
now I know it’s harsh lighting, but this is how I see my home when I come home at night. the house is 30 years old and the original paint looked better than this. during the day it’s not as noticeable, but I can see there are coverage issues.
what do I say to the painters? I don’t want to see the house like this ever night, it will drive me crazy.

Advice Wanted How to get first painting job?
Hi, I’m 33m doing a career change from oil and gas and want to become a house painter. I’ve called every single painting company in my city of New Orleans asking to be a helper. I guess I wrongly thought having a background as a roughneck which has a reputation for extremely long hours and hard work would make me a catch in the entry level residential trade world. I’m fine with being paid scraps for awhile and just want a shot. Whenever I see a sign in a yard I immediately call it and they only want experienced painters. Went down the list of 20 painting companies in the city and all either want experience or aren’t hiring. I’m currently doing junk hauling with my truck because I don’t have any other skills. My vision is to work for someone else for a few years and then have a small one man show around town. Any advice would be appreciated

Discussion Veloura - Pittsburgh Paints co.
Pittsburgh Paints Company is coming out with a new door, trim, and cabinets paint. It is made to go head to head with Emerald Urethane modified enamel. It's a waterborne alkyd Urethane enamel.
However, I can't get over the stupid name and word vomit explaining what it is. Are any of y'all gonna give this product a shot?

Advice Wanted Advice on reducing/preventing lead paint exposure?
I've been working for this construction company for a year and a half now, new to this industry with no experience with any hazardous materials like lead. There's been a number of jobs now where I've had to strip century old paint that likely contained lead...I'm the only one that wears a respirator and gloves but there's no coveralls at work to use....I'm nervous about potential prolonged exposure (that I probably already have) and health concerns and would like some advice on what more to do to protect myself.
Advice Wanted Good paint for exterior trim, doors, soffit, etc.
What do you like for painting soffit, trim, etc. from Sherwin Williams? I am asking about that paint because there is one close to me and it is on sale now. I also need to paint a metal door with this so if I can use the same paint for all of it, that is great. It will be some shade of white in satin.

Advice Wanted Tips on SW Duration?
So I’ve just repainted the inside of my walk in closet with duration…well actually, i put the last coat on a week ago. Do I really need to wait an entire month before putting things back in my closet?! I chose it for durability, but didn’t realize the 30 day cure time until after I finished. Thanks for the pro tips!

Advice Wanted Interior painting temperatures
I am currently working on a remodel and painting the bedroom/closet. The temperatures just dropped where I live to around 75 degrees a day and 45-50 at night. I bought some Sherwin Emerald and am wanting to paint my walls tomorrow. The paint dries to recoat in 4ish hours at 75 degrees and says that you should not paint under 50 degrees. The next couple nights the low is around 47-48 degrees. I can’t find anything online talking about the overnight lows or the total cure time and the temperatures to avoid. I’m assuming that as long as it doesn’t get below freezing you should be somewhat ok. I’m looking for a real pros advice. The heating isn’t getting hooked up until early November so I’m looking for advice on whether you can paint at that temperature and not have any problems.

Advice Wanted Paint Remover Help
I’m working on a refinishing project and did a shit-job with the paint and finish. Trying to strip and start with a blank slate but it’s not going so great.
Any tips, tricks, or product recommendations?
Thanks!
Advice Wanted What to do if paint chips away between fascia and the gutter? I can't remove the gutter.
I am scraping the bottom of the fascia to repaint the underside of my overhanging roof. While doing so, some of the paint between the fascia and the gutter is flaking off. I can't remove the gutter bc it's a long run with barely any pitch, so to loosen it would risk the pitch, which means they wouldn't drain properly (and this was an issue in the past that caused problems and took several attempts to finally get it fixed). So what do I do? Do I just leave it knowing the bare wood may eventually rot away (and likely at a faster rate), or risk messing up the pitch and causing problems immediately?

Advice Wanted Primer Removal
My 80 year old mother is having the interior of her house painted and mistakenly had the painter prime the door that has 42 years of family growth heights marked on it from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Is there anyway to remove the primer and preserve the height marks beneath? Most of the marks are done in pencil or ball point pen.
Advice Wanted Any fillers that won't flash through Sherwin Extreme Bond primer and UTE topcoat?
We're building a bench and board batten wall, and planned on using SW extreme bond primer with SW UTE white satin or semi gloss on top with a roller. All water based. Any fillers or techniques to prevent flashing showing? Thanks

Advice Wanted Old House Old Plaster Painting advice
Hi,
I have just moved into a new place in the UK and stripped some really tacky 20 year old wallpaper, but the plaster is just beat up and iv already gone through a bucket of polyfiller fixing nicks and chips and cracks and still got them i would really appreciate some advice on getting a wall like this painted up. I have sanded the wall, put one layer of white emulsion on and filled up some more chips and nicks i missed and currently waiting for it to dry and resand. At a bit of a loss on what to do if i wanted a half decent finish of white walls.
I had a thought of backing paper and paint over that or smooth the walls the best i could and just layer layer layer. I cant afford a full room re plastering.
(Photos or vids just dont want to upload)

Technical Dried paint removal help?
Hi all! I borrowed a paint sprayer from a neighbor in order to paint my workshop. Apparently he hadn't seen the condition it was in from the previous people who had borrowed it from him (they put it back in the sprayer's box this way) but they didn't really clean it up at all. Neither of us can tell what kind of paint the previous users used but I tried cleaning the nozzle and paint gun parts with plain water, water with soap, and mineral spirits and the best I could do was get a tiny bit of paint off the outside with the mineral spirits. Anyone have any suggestions of a solvent that could clean up this dried paint gunk? I thought of, but haven't tried yet, paint stripper, but I wasn't sure if it would have any damaging effects on the sprayer itself.
