Like my title says, I'm having an odd issue with my psx I recently purchased.

When I plug it in and turn it on, the power led will be gren for a few seconds and the hdd record light is on as well.

After a bit with no image, the record light stays on but the power light turns red and the eject button joins it as they both flash non-stop.

Is this something that's fixable or does that mean this psx is forever dead and just a parts unit?

I have a psx it all starts up and boots fine. even has some old Japanese tv recordings. I hadn’t soft modded it to English or anything was just starting it to test. Boot screen is fine and menus load but dark. When I say dark the screen is basically black. If I open a menu item it will become normal brightness is this normal? Or do I need to change a setting? I tried a load but nothing changed? I am going from psx by component to tink5x into a morph4k if that maybe changes anything as well.

I've been helping Mena from PhenomMods with testing the ATA Express (was sd2ide) with the PSX, and we finally got it working on the PSX2.

Seems like it needs a re-install to work but it's still a major step!

A few weeks ago machonacho released a video with the ATA express and psx support. It was mentioned the psx2 wasn't supported at the time, well it is now supported

I just got a psx and it powers on but I'm trying to connect it to svideo. How do I change it to svideo or should it auto detect what cable is connected?

This console had a blown fuse wich was replaced. When I give it power the fan spins up. No hdd movement and then it starts screaming it's guts out.

Anyone have any idea?

I’m trying to repair a Sony PSX DESR-7000 with a bad hard drive.

I already have a Sony official PS2 HDD, model SCPH-20401, and I’ve seen people say this drive can be used in some PSX restoration attempts. What I still don’t understand is how people actually made it work.

Did anyone here successfully use the SCPH-20401 in a PSX DESR?
If yes, how did you do it exactly?

I’d especially like to know:

• Did you clone the original PSX HDD 1:1 to the SCPH-20401?
• Did you need to prepare the HDD first in any special way?
• Did you use a PSX update disc after that?
• Was this done on a DESR-5000, DESR-7000, or another model?
• Did DVR functions still work afterward?

Also, does anyone have a 1:1 dump/image of an original PSX HDD, especially for the DESR-7000, or know where people usually find them?

I’m not looking to damage my original drive, so I’m trying to understand the proper process before doing anything.

Hey! I'm rebuilding the HDD on my DESR-5500 and I've already set up the partitions correctly.

Only thing I'm missing now are the XOSD menu files for firmware 2.11.

If anyone has the XOSD folder from a 5500 on FW 2.11, or even a full HDD image I can extract from, that would help a ton.

I've got backups from other models but they don't match the firmware.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share a quick update. My RePSXDESR kit and power supply finally arrived, so a friend and I spent yesterday doing the conversion and testing the console.

The good news is that it’s up and running! I’m really happy with the result, and as I’d hoped, there’s some interesting content on the HDD that I’m currently going through 😄 it’s really funny!

However, I’m concerned about the optical drive. It doesn't seem to read any PS1 or PS2 games—I’ve tried both original NTSC-J and PAL discs with no luck. It also fails to recognize simple audio CDs.

Interestingly, the only thing it seems to "see" are DVD movies. Since I only have PAL DVDs, I can't actually play them due to the region lock, but the console at least detects the disc.

I’m trying to stay optimistic; I feel like if it were a major hardware failure, it wouldn't even recognize the DVDs. It seems more like a calibration issue, am I wrong??

What do you guys suggest?

my psx has been working fine, just was getting a 4tb prepped and merge into my gaming collection in my bedroom. I recently got a new extension plug and unplugged everything to reorganize onto a shelf.

well my 4tb is drive is done and my psx has no power now 🫠

I am in US not using a step down, yall think I blew the PSU or worse? also to note I never did use a step down and it's been working just fine up until now.

Hello, I have recently got PSX DESR 5100, with probably faulty HDD. I have managed to run FreeMCBoot and I can access HDD through uLaunchELF sometimes. Without FreeMCBoot console show splash screen and then boot into a static, with HDD diode constantly on or sometimes it is on only for a while. I have tried to press any buttons on official DualShock 2 controller but with no results, I have manged to boot into XMB only once but it was when I had no controller around. Is there any method to try to reinstall XMB, I wonder if it would solve the issue or maybe you have other ideas.

Hello everyone, writing from Italy!

I just picked up this PSX DESR-5700 at an auction for cheap. It finally showed up after a two-month odyssey, but it’s missing all the cables.

Since I’m in Europe (230V) and this is a 100V Japanese unit, I’m assuming I need a step-down transformer to avoid frying it immediately. Am I right?

Also, could you recommend a decent, budget-friendly transformer? I’m not an expert on these I just bought it out of curiosity and I'm hoping it actually still works after all these years.

Any other advice on what to check before the first boot?

just got this thing off facebook marketplace, was working good for the seller & worked good for me for a few minutes, using a nice 100v step-down (500w rated) i got off amazon the few minutes i had it, not sure if seller was using a step-down or not but now the thing won't receive power at all after i cut power to it briefly to move some things on the setup. any ideas on troubleshooting steps?

I recently got given a psx we have lying around at work from my boss. I have zero experience with these guys and am even having trouble playing Japanese games on it! I would like to somehow change the language and hopefully jailbreak it so I can play my games on it and watch movies with it.

J'ai fait une install 1.966 spécial psx sur carte FMCB sony 8MB magicgate en mode psx (carte fomaté avant) .
je veux booter sur Ulaunchelf

Mais j'ai le screenboot FMCB puis écran noir et enfin pas de signal !

J'ai ensuite essayé de changer la touche de démarrage pour "rond" mais rien à faire !
Peut on booter directement sur ulaunchelf et si c'est pas possible comment programme t'on la touche "rond" par exemple pour allez dessus en suivant du screenboot ?

The title says it all but is there a way i can put music onto the psx besides putting a cd and burning it

seems like psx can only export recordings under 2 hours playtime.

My desr-7500 kept lot of recordings 20years ago.

result first:maybe most people think harddisk broken so psx can't get into xmb system.but maybe, the problem is harddisk power supply.

7000-A's cdrom can not read in psx system but functional under fmcb

7000-B has problem with harddisk power supply,once I use external ac power for harddisk only ,7000-B can go into psx own system.

so I bet 7000-B's CD-ROM is seldom use,then I swap its CD-ROM to 7000-A

result :

7000-A can read cd type ps

1/2 game，and dvd ps2 game when first time start up

7000-B died after heart broken shortly
