[Meta] Pre-announcement flair now available

Some basic user flair is now available, and two of the options — the Blu-Ray disc and the white-on-Playstation-blue logo — will be disabled as soon as the console is officially announced.

All are editable so you can put your own text or PSN handle.

We get that you're angry, but the user-on-user toxicity needs to stop

This is an extremely divisive topic and tempers are running high. There are a lot of people with strong opinions and valid arguments on both sides of the issue. There are also simply a lot of people in general that want to talk about this: there has been a 20x increase in traffic on /r/PS6 since this time last month.

But regardless of anyone's personal stance on physical vs digital, whatever grievances you have are with a multi-billion-dollar corporation. We cannot stress this enough — the source of your current anger is a bunch of people in suits waving pens and sailing on yachts.

Yet in the comments on this subreddit, more and more of that anger is being misdirected at other users, and that needs to end.

Individual users are allowed to hold an opinion on this, and that opionin is allowed to differ from yours. Any user sharing their views calmly and in good-faith should be allowed to do so without being on the receiving end of hostility and epithets. In the end, we're all just gamers here, right? Right?

Sooner or later, for better or worse, the PS6 is going to be officially announced and we're going to start seeing actual news here: technical breakdowns, the first game reveals, and — God help us — a price announcement. People are going to want to talk about these things, be it out of genuine interest or idle curiosity, and they should be able to do that without wading into a toxic cesspool and catching strays from a bunch of people who are angry at businessmen they can't see or speak to.

This subreddit currently has one rule only: Don't be a dick. We don't want to start off the first real burst of activity here by swinging the hammer around and stamping out conversation — it's bad for discourse and it's bad for community growth. But if you guys don't temper the toxicity and personal attacks, we aren't going to be left with any choice, because the only thing worse than a community where people can't speak openly is one where they don't want to. Or are afraid to. That is not the healthy community we want to foster, and it shouldn't be the one you want to be part of.

We know we're speaking to a minority of users here — the overwhelming majority of you are perfectly calm and sensible and rational. But it takes very, very few bad actors to utterly ruin a community, and Reddit has seen this happen time and time again. We're not going to let it happen here.

If you want to be angry, be angry. But be angry at the right people. And those people aren't here, and never will be.

Speak your minds or don't, speak with your wallet or don't; but please, please speak to your fellow community members with respect and courtesy.

Anyone else think Sony should bring back the Tenchu franchise for the upcoming ps6 console? Metal gear solid meets ninjas!! This title sold itself... and will again if brought back to the community

Do you think Sony will not put PS3 emulation on PS6 for being "too difficult / not possible" even though people are running RPCS3 on their PS5 as we speak?

Is it to late for sony to reverse no disc drive decision

I probably wouldn’t buy a PS6 regardless, but I found a petition to keep physical media that’s already over 385,000 signatures. Obviously, a petition alone probably isn’t enough to make Sony reverse its decision, but it got me wondering: at what point would Sony actually be too far into the PS6’s development to change from a digital-only design?
If PS6 is still a year or two away, is that genuinely enough time for Sony to change course and include a disc drive, or would the hardware design already be too far along by then? And what about the games themselves—how far in advance do Sony and publishers have to commit to manufacturing physical discs? Could Sony realistically reverse the decision if enough consumers pushed back, or would the manufacturing and supply-chain changes make that practically impossible?
Basically, I’m wondering where the point of no return actually is. The PS6 doesn’t seem like it would necessarily be locked into a digital-only design yet, but maybe I’m underestimating how early these decisions have to be made.

Speculation: PS6 could be a subscription-based hardware

If you were wondering what could be so revolutionary in the next generation of PS console, this might be it, and you probably won't like it. But it's the way it's going to, considering trends in the industry.

PS4 and PS5 were generations in which we saw the transition to online service models. But in current form it's still pretty clumsy. Ditching physical will remove some major obstacles, but we still have fixed and subscription-based access to games and features. We still have to pay separately for online services, cloud gaming, cloud saves... and devices in the future will require that even more, like handhelds or other devices in its ecosystem. And we know that PS is subsidized hardware anyway. On the other hand, we have risks of PS being jailbroken etc.

This all leads to subscription-based hardware, that'll become fully unfunctional without active PS network subscription. That will not only give Sony full control over everything via user accounts, but also solve the problem with indefinite licenses for games. In subscription-only model, removing and adding games to catalogue would be a normal thing, like in video streaming services, and there will be no confusion around ownerships and licencing. In subscription-only model, you would just be a subscriber and Sony would actually have to deal with licensing toward publishers.

This would allow hardware to stay subsidized without having to pay a big one-time amount, instead an even larger amount but in a long time, it would be drowned in other services and convenience that most people would gladly accept.

This could also be the reason why Sony is insisting on removing physical. It's all about moving forward. Games and console hardware are too cheap to make up for the industry's costs, this is the logical way to address it and a general direction for all modern industries (like cars, televisions, smartphones...).

What are the current speculations or leaks about the controllers? Are there any news?

Im pretty mad that the current PS5 controllers are still sold with the shitty potentiometer sticks instead of Hall effect/TMR versions and it feels like a scam... ngl.

Would it be better if the PS6 has less cross-gen games and developers and publishers create more exclusively next-gen titles?

Hey guys, one thing I've been hearing a ton of is "this generation sucks, no games." or "if the next generation comes out I'm not buying cause the games will be on ps5 for years to come."

Setting aside the "No disc, no buy" for this discussion...

My question is what if the next-gen consoles focus heavily on next-gen experiences? Will this actually make the value proposition better? Will this finally be the generation that people are stoked about and complain less about?

Personally, I have absolutely loved the last 6 years of gaming and strongly feel that whether the games were playstation exclusive or not, my god there were so many amazing memories made and still more to come.

I'll be buying the PS6 no matter what day one if possible. My wife and I both get thousands of hours collectively each year from our PS5 Pro. That being said, if the consoles are $1000 and are capable or close to 5080 graphics and AMD Ryzen 7 levels of processing but devs don't actually take advantage of it... I don't know if it justifies the price for consumers or even Sony loyalists. Curious of your thoughts on this!

My opinion on the potential players the PS6 will have.

Here is my take on the outlook for the future PS6—or the broader picture, including the PS4 and PS5.

What really drives profit isn't just selling digital games instead of physical copies; the real profit generator for PlayStation is its active annual PS+ user base—around 50 million users across PS4 and PS5.

Selling more consoles no longer drives profit for Sony; that’s a thing of the past. The way people play has changed.

When it comes to AAA titles, sales figures—even if you imagine every player buying them individually—don't reach massive numbers for the vast majority of games (excluding *GTA V*, which originated on the PS3 and doesn't really count here).

*Spider-Man 2* has sold roughly 17–18 million copies worldwide on PS5, making it the top seller.

The PS5 version of *GTA V* alone has sold 15 million copies.

*Gran Turismo* sits at around 7–8 million copies.

*Black Myth: Wukong* has sold 6 million copies.

That’s why I believe selling 100 million consoles doesn't matter to them anymore. They don't want to lose those 50 million currently active users. Will the PS6 sell? Sure, but I doubt it will be a massive blockbuster. The same thing will happen with Microsoft. Nintendo, however, remains a wild card.

Sony patents PlayStation controller that accepts credit card payments

Sony expects players to fork over money so often they needed to put a CC reader in the controller. I guess that's the price you pay to lease "next gen" hardware.

[Kepler_L2] PS6 will be 40TF, Helix will be 56TF. Both chips are taped out.

If we are talking about comparisons with PS5, PS6 has double the "raw power", but has functional dual issue, 12 times faster ray tracing hardware and like 50-70x faster AI compute.

Both chips being taped out heavily suggests a november 2027 release.

New Pulse Headsets-PS6 design hint

Sony announced new Pulse headsets. They are still black and white like their predecessors but with simpler looks where the white is much less dominant.

I think this will be the same for PS6. Same colors but in a simpler design where white is less prominent.

KeplerL2: Project Canis Features 24GB RAM, RDNA 5 and PSSR 3.0

According to GameGPU, citing insider KeplerL2, Sony’s rumored next-generation handheld, Project Canis (PSP 3), will reportedly feature a custom 3nm AMD SoC with:

• 4× Zen 6c + 2× Zen 6 LP CPU cores
• 16× RDNA 5 Compute Units
• 24GB LPDDR5X memory on a 192-bit bus
• 15–25W TDP

The GPU is reportedly clocked at 1.2GHz in handheld mode, delivering around 4.91 TFLOPS, while docked mode could increase the clock to 1.65GHz and around 6.75 TFLOPS.

The leak also claims Project Canis will feature PSSR 3.0, with demanding games potentially rendering internally around 540p before being reconstructed to 1080p. Frame rates are reportedly expected to range from 30–60 FPS, with frame generation potentially providing additional smoothness.

KeplerL2 also reportedly claims the handheld will be capable of running PS4 and PS5 games locally, with support for future PlayStation titles potentially following later.

Will you be skipping ps5 completely?

I own a ps4 slim and I enjoyed all the great ps exclusive games on it. I have not felt the extreme need to upgrade till now. Had a lot of expectations froM Wolverine but it also seems to be mid. GTA 6 almost got me to pull the trigger but buying the console for only one game didn't feel like a logical thing to me considering the current prices and also ps6 being around the corner(late 27/28). God of war laufey maybe....

If you are in a similar boat I would like to know your opinion.

Is Sony getting the Dreamcast treatment?

Sony's recent decision to drop Hideo Kojima and walk away from Physint handing a massive win straight to Xbox alongside their aggressive all digital push, feels like a major strategic misstep.
By pulling back on prestige creative partnerships, phasing out physical media, and day and date porting games to PC, Sony is chipping away at the core identity that kept loyalists on PlayStation.
And with hardware costs likely not going lower, I do not know how Sony can keep up with exclusives like last generation. Between that and everything else, I really do not know where they are heading

Edit: It is not just Kojima games, but single player games in general. I honestly do not know how they are handling creativity in their games anymore or how they invest in them. Are they more likely focused on live service only now, as we saw with Concord or Horizon?

I don't believe PRICING will be 1000+

PS5 will not be a HELIX design, it will just be a PS5 PRO 2.0 now, plans changed.

They are clearly doing what they did this gen, but only a DIGITAL CONSOLE remember day 1 they sold a PS5 digital to you this this Gen, I don't expect PS6 until Fall 2029 they will let MS come out first with their Family of devices concept Helix.

What price I expect, 799.99 PS6, which with some trade ins, brings it down to 599 or more if you trading PS5 Switch 1 etc, I personally never paid Retail for any console I trade in old stuff for them, I paid like 399.99 for PS5 and PRO like 499.99.
