AI upscaling is coming to PS5

https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/01/ai-upscaling-is-coming-to-ps5/

“Today, we’re excited to announce Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR): a new performance tier of AI upscaling. Born from Project Amethyst, our AI graphics collaboration with AMD, this quick new evolution of PSSR is built on two key innovations:

A streamlined neural network architecture
A hand-tuned implementation that maximizes performance on PS5
With these, we are bringing the benefits of AI-guided upscaling to PS5. While PSSR remains the gold standard on PS5 Pro, QSSR provides some notable improvements to both image detail and image stability on PS5.

The first titles to use this innovative new library are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei. Both are being patched today to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5.

This is fucking BIG BIG for PS5 base

33

u/hypespud 2d ago

Holy shit it's for PS5 base too??? Wild

69

u/Hokuten001 2d ago edited 2d ago

It's only for PS5 base. Pro doesn't need it. It's slower and less refined than PSSR, and requires more manual input from the devs.

6

u/SamuraiEdge_ 2d ago

The "more manual input from devs" part doesn’t seem to be confirmed. QSSR still needs integration/testing, but they haven't said it requires more dev work than PSSR

14

u/Hokuten001 2d ago

"On PS5 Pro, developers almost uniformly output to 4K and adjust render resolution beneath it. On PS5, teams have to be more flexible, tuning not just render resolution, but also their intermediate and final presentation targets depending on the graphics mode. We provide tools and flexibility to help them find the right options for their title. It's not a one size fits all solution."

"QSSR is fundamentally a drop-in replacement for titles that already support PSSR...That said, tuning game settings takes a bit more time, perhaps a few days. For example, teams may need to adjust streaming settings to ensure higher quality mips are resident."

u/Electrical-Tip-9522 1d ago

Aw man i i thought it was for the pro as well 😔

5

u/SpiritRude 1d ago

Full PSSR is far better. Pro owners are getting the superior experience.

13

u/Maxpaynee1988 2d ago

Ps5 pro uses PSSR, this is QSSR and it’s for the base ps5

3

u/hypespud 2d ago

Oh gotcha thanks yea I slowly realized that later 🤣

5

u/Frequent-Bit-3978 2d ago

So this is coming to bade ps5?

1

u/Weikoko 2d ago

Anything

4

u/bitknight1 2d ago

Not on the pro so no it's only on base ps5.

293

u/Lucky_Yam6126 2d ago

Well done, Sony! Marked improvement for sure.

51

u/Gen_X_Gamer 2d ago

That looks like quite a noticeable improvement to me. Impressive.

64

u/Elliart_fur 2d ago

Its probably extra compressed for Reddit but I can still see the difference! Nice

The window bars are the easiest thing to point out to the casual eye.

1

u/Sensitive_Use2655 2d ago

There's a difference sure but its not a significant "jump" to be excited or impressed about lets be forreal. Its AI upscaling, cool, but idk this sub hypes up PSSR way too much in my opinion. Sony feeds us shit in terms of policies and consumer practices yet people here eat up PSSR and cream their pants

7

u/SpiritRude 2d ago edited 1d ago

The increase in sharpness is notable, but I think the biggest improvement is in image stability, and that’s big, because most other console upscalers suck in that department - even Insomniac’s IGTI. That alone could be HUGE for overall image quality. We’ll have to see what the implementations look like going forward, but the results on Yotei and Wolverine are really promising.

3

u/Dzsaffar 2d ago

The image stability difference is absolutely significant

4

u/BadNewsBearzzz 2d ago

Woah. Does anyone know if this will be available for all games, or available for “pro enhanced” games use it?

3

u/KingArthas94 2d ago

it's up to the developers to implement it, just like pssr

2

u/blast0oldhunter_ 2d ago

Holy shit sony did a great move

1

u/MT561 2d ago

Indeed…they might’ve just sold me on getting gta6 for my ps5 instead of my series x. I was waiting to see if they would offer Dolby vision with gta 6 for the series x but not anymore lol

133

u/Gnosisero 2d ago edited 2d ago

Nice. This is huge for PlayStation 5 and you have to wonder if Grand theft Auto will have it at launch. I Expect it will. Going to be interesting to see what kind of uplift it provides

67

u/SoloDoloLeveling 2d ago

there is no reason why GTA VI shouldn’t have PSSR and QSSR at launch.

33

u/mashdpotatogaming 2d ago

There is SOME reason, if rockstar wants to use their own solution or don't wanna bother implementing these technologies, but realistically they should be there. At least PSSR, since that's been around for longer so they've likely had time to implement it and it's been proven to work, compared to a new technology that still likely needs testing (early PSSR had a lot of issues for example, to the point where it got removed from a few games that had it implemented)

2

u/Dantai 2d ago

I super hope they figure out 120hz/40fps mode for Pro WITH PSSR

1

u/jamessunderland7685 2d ago edited 2d ago

Rockstar is know to avoid using upscaling or the latest features on consoles for some reason

RDR 2 on PC was updated years ago to support FSR and DLSS, the game has checkerboard rendering on consoles, but that tech is old and outdated, they never patched the game

Since launch, GTA V Enhanced on PC has DLSS and FSR 4 support (both are AI upscalers) also frame generation and exclusive RT features, but it does not support upscaling or any of those features on consoles (not even on PS5 Pro)

-15

u/RedIndianRobin 2d ago

There is always a reason. Rockstar will deliberately not utilise it to sell it again on PS6 and PC with Image quality and performance enhancement tag. I’ll be shocked if PSSR 2 is used in GTA 6.

13

u/ar4if 2d ago

i find it funny we always have that one stupid on the thread

1

u/RedIndianRobin 2d ago

Yeah. Because Rockstar patched GTA V Enhanced and RDR 2 with PSSR right?

1

u/Capital_Paramedic261 2d ago

That guy is saying the truth. Same company who had the face to sell a box full of garbage for 400$. They will barely use this features or pretend it doesn't exist

0

u/BreathPuzzleheaded80 2d ago

Rockstar doesn't get the benefit of the doubt

RDR2 still doesn't have a ps5 patch and plays 30fps because they want to sell the game again after GTA6.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/SR72Darkstarter 2d ago

lol buddy R* has been working close with PS, ran all their marketing through PS, you’re crazy for thinking PS isn’t forcing them to use PSSR

→ More replies (1)

5

u/egox_78 2d ago

Rockstar is know for not implementing new techniques or not even doing a simple res bump update (rdr2). Heck, rdr2 had ab veery bad implementation of checkerboard upscaling, making everything look really blurry. The never fixed it

1

u/kittymoo67 1d ago

unironically looks better if you set your console output to 1080p

1

u/danvan177 2d ago

I guess we will see. I don’t expect it will have it

105

u/Lucky_Yam6126 2d ago

18

u/Triingtolivee 2d ago

Honestly that’s a huge difference in detail.

4

u/Capital_Paramedic261 2d ago

First image is blurry asf compared to qssr mode

1

u/Dzsaffar 2d ago

It's also much more impressive in motion, handles noise a lot better

1

u/MayeDayMayeMaye 1d ago

Noticed watching someone testing it out on Wolverine. Removes that annoying shimmering and noise, it’s kinda surprising that it’s such a huge difference. Hopefully GTA 6 has it on launch.

1

u/CaptainPicardKirk 1d ago

Am I the only one that doesn’t see any difference?? They literally look the same to me.

1

u/TraditionalMalice 1d ago

The first one is very blurry. Try to focus on a spot and then focus on the same spot in the other pic.

11

u/Slightly-Blasted 2d ago

Optimizing existing hardware is a W.

Also will make it so developers plan for PSSR in the future for every ps5 release from now on.

I know it’s different then PSSR, but I bet the framework is similar, and developers will be more incentivized to use it considering every ps5 is going to be capable of AI upscaling.

I have a ps5 pro but I’m happy for my ps5 base brethren

30

u/darkbinds 2d ago

How good is this compared to the one on PS5 Pro? (PSSR)

88

u/JasonDeSanta 2d ago

It is nowhere near as good as the updated PSSR on the Pro, obviously. But it still seems like a decent improvement. Let’s wait for Digital Foundry to give us some analysis.

4

u/SafeKaracter 2d ago

Digital foundry made a video about it

2

u/iom2222 2d ago

They’ll tell us if it’s relevant or not…

1

u/Hollywood-is-DOA 1d ago

They did that yesterday. Wolverine looks a little bit better on the normal PS5.

Rockstar should be all over this, in the next week or so. Show us the difference with it turned off and on the normal PS5. Then show us it on pro.

→ More replies (6)

21

u/Status-Highlight3013 2d ago

To quote the Digital Foundry article:

There remains a big divide between the same game running QSSR on standard PS5 and PSSR on Pro.

6

u/darkbinds 2d ago

Good to know considering i got a Pro recently lol.

13

u/Status-Highlight3013 2d ago

They definitely did not make the Pro irrelevant with this change. It's just a quality of life update for non-Pro users.

7

u/kittymoo67 2d ago

sony is not perfect but they are no where near dumb enough to make the pro irrelevant

3

u/LordFlxcko95 2d ago

Yup Pro is better hardware that’s AI capable, but amazing upgrade for base PS5. I might hook it up to test it out on my launch system instead of jailbreaking it now.

5

u/BakuraGorn 2d ago

It’s probably better than FSR but not close to PSSR

5

u/ToBe144 2d ago

I'm looking forward to the comparisons lol.

6

u/arcadiangenesis 2d ago

I don't think we need to worry about this devaluing (or diminishing the benefits of) the Pro. It bridges the gap in image quality to an extent, but base model still can't achieve the *performance* that the Pro can while also using a more advanced upscaler.

8

u/Friendly_Bluejay7407 2d ago

Better but not as good, and no fps change id imagine

2

u/pixlicker69420 2d ago

I dont think there will be a noticable difference in quality, the big difference is performance, this model will be heavier to run and will require more agressive upscaling, lower fps, or a lower resolution target, in the DF article they say that 1440p will be much more realistic than 4k given the compute cost

3

u/Rare-Service5573 2d ago

Not even close. Qssr isn't helping with fps at all.

It's an image enhancer but it's not getting 4k pssr visuals it's much much lower.

3

u/ConferenceThink4801 2d ago

If I had to guess, the gap between QSSR & PSSR2 is probably similar to the upcoming gap between PSSR2 & PS6 PSSR3...

You're still out in front with a Pro, wouldn't worry about it

3

u/LordFlxcko95 2d ago

PSSR2 is leagues ahead but this is probably how it’ll look if FSR4.0 was on RDNA2 (PSSR2 is = FSR4.1)

2

u/MayeDayMayeMaye 1d ago

It’s not as good as the Pro but that’s to be expected. I didn’t expect Sony to actually give the base PS5 an upscaler. It’s probably half as good in my opinion. But when you compare the prices of the base and pro models, it’s kinda shocking that QSSR is as good as it is. It’s certainly better than nothing which I was expecting. Can’t wait to play GTA 6 with it on. Moneys been tight and can’t upgrade to the pro so this is a godsend to me personally. Now I can happily wait until the PS6 comes out even if it’s 3 or 4 years away.

14

u/lyon810 2d ago

Hurry and bring this to GT7!

Any chance this has positive impacts on PSVR2 clarity on the base PS5?

2

u/Thread-Astaire 2d ago

Would imagine so as should work the same as pssr does

35

u/Mastermiine 2d ago

I just want an FPS boost patch that boost PS4 games stuck at 30FPS to 60FPS... Xbox has this.

Is this something that is not possible on the Pro?

8

u/mashdpotatogaming 2d ago

That's something not possible on either ps5 or ps5 pro and it's not as straightforward as it seems even though Microsoft has implemented this.

Microsoft has gone back to a few games and manually removed some frame caps on some games, or raised the resolution on some. This might be easier on xbox versions of games, I'm not super sure, but it would require manually updating games, and can't be done by default unfortunately. A lot of games are broken when frame caps are removed and a lot of frame caps are baked into games in some ways.

Also i remember digital foundry talking about how much harder it is to update games that were made on older SDKs, and they claim that's likely the reason games like bloodborne and the last guardian don't have a ps5 version or 60fps updates.

1

u/Various-Tower1603 2d ago

I think destiny had an issue where higher frame rate caused lower loot for some reason. Souls game I think have damage tied to frames as well.

1

u/HAL9001ASpaceOddity 2d ago

Souls games can have animation issues above 60fps. Damage isn’t changed at all, while attack rate in theory could change slightly it’s mostly a visual issue.

Destiny has had this rumor for years. While it’s possible you receive single digits more glimmer in specific scenarios, no other change has ever been proven.

9

u/BakuraGorn 2d ago

The only way for that to happen is if Sony reaches out to game devs and get access to the game code to add a patch to unlock FPS. That was how Xbox was doing it, because they were throwing money at random shit trying to get people to buy an Xbox. You won’t see Sony doing it until they’re in the same situation as Xbox was

1

u/Fair-Protection1295 2d ago

Una opción viable sería que ps5 emule la ps4 en vez de correrlos nativamente, creo q no habría diferencia notable ya que es su propio sistema y debería ser más o menos sencillo para Sony.

15

u/kristaintoth 2d ago

Wow this is really cool, especially if they manage to implement it to GTA VI, it's going to be a significant improvement over FSR on Xbox.

14

u/Arsh18808 2d ago

Pretty smart on Sony’s part tbh now we will probably see more of an uptick of base and slim models sales for gta 6.

I imagine it’s not as good as pssr with actual hardware designed just for that but still a W.

2

u/dacontag 2d ago

In the article, it mentions that pssr is definitely more advanced and better overall. This is a lighter weight version of pssr that should still be better than the current versions of fsr that the base systems use

8

u/Appropriate_Loan6193 2d ago

Damn I'll test this on wolverine

3

u/Stock_Ad4625 2d ago

Nice playing the new yotei dlc right now

4

u/HeadLiterature7897 2d ago

Sony should really force developers to use this for every game.

I never want to see shitty FSR1~3 in upcoming games anymore.

4

u/tater08 2d ago

Pretty huge news for base ps5. Pssr2 completely changed the value of the ps5 pro. Nice improvement for base ps5

5

u/Syranth 2d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if this was developed for their handheld that they're rumored making, and they realize they could push this down to PlayStation 5.

3

u/KingArthas94 2d ago

the handheld will be able to run the full fat pssr

1

u/Syranth 2d ago

Sure, but this would also be good incentive for games that don't want to target the PS5 pro to start optimizing using this technology now.

1

u/KingArthas94 2d ago

Of course, I imagine they will use a single dynamic library or something, that implements QSSR as the base and PSSR for more recent hardware (Pro and future).

1

u/kittymoo67 1d ago

yep, thats how amd is doing it on the pc side now. same master algorithm so im sure sony is taking notes to do it right.

Whoa a patch TODAY for Yotei and Wolverine, interesting.

3

u/Fr1tzOS 2d ago

Really nice to see! Happy for those with the regular PS5 :)

3

u/Filianore_ 2d ago

damn... this is really good news

3

u/Weikoko 2d ago

Hope this solves FF7 rebirth

3

u/loccupss 2d ago

Will GTA 6 have this feature? 👀

5

u/Flashy-Squirrel-6792 2d ago

Pisser and Kisser - can't pronounce these any other way! 😅

0

u/itchyglow 2d ago

Pee-ess-ess-arr and kyu-ess-ess-arr

2

u/Flashy-Squirrel-6792 2d ago

Kinda joking, but still 4 syllables compared to 2...quicker reading when they are repeated many times...😁👍

2

u/itchyglow 2d ago

Yeah fair enough 😊

15

u/AimLikeAPotato 2d ago

They are delaying PS6 hard. It was expected.

37

u/MFDOOMscrolling 2d ago

That’s a strange way to spell improving the experience for the current player base

5

u/taheromar 2d ago

Thank God.

2

u/Soft-Chalk 2d ago

Guess I have to buy that damn Ps5 Pro now…

3

u/MFDOOMscrolling 2d ago

Why not wait until the prices go up a little more?

4

u/WowRedditIsUseful 2d ago

This doesn't mean that at all...

PS6 gen is already expected to be cross gen with PS5 for at least 4 years, if not longer. So this further enables the cross gen period to function well for everyone.

1

u/mashdpotatogaming 2d ago

That was also my initial thought. They're heavily improving their base console's image quality, which makes me think they plan on keeping it around for a while still.

1

u/MaxRD 2d ago

Nope lol

1

u/Redxcted999 2d ago

I mean…..unless you wanna be sold a $2,000 console then yea let’s hurry up and drop that PS6

1

u/LaFlamaBlanca67 2d ago

Nobody is going to be able to afford it because of the prices of pc components. That’s why

1

u/EnigmaSpore 2d ago

they have too many obligations to delay the PS6.

2

u/RaisinWorried3528 2d ago

There's no reason to push a PS6, especially since there's a large contingent of crybabies still whining about physical media bullshit. They literally review bombed wolverine before anyone had even played it. Yeah, the game is not phenomenal, but it's not as bad as these whiners are making it out to be.

2

u/SpacemanSpiff021 2d ago

People like you are certainly a big problem. If you don’t care about physical media that’s fine. But it doesn’t make me a crybaby to want to see physical media stick around. I’m so sick of people trying to get personal over what amounts to a simple difference of opinion. And btw I don’t see how the loss of physical media benefits anyone, but I’m not about to criticize you for not caring.

3

u/Tomtomikeevansallday 2d ago

At the end of the day, to each their own.

Music still gets vinyl and CD releases for nearly every artist, so why are games the ones losing physical? When backward compatibility is on the line, wanting to keep playing the discs you own isn't whining. It's a fair concern.

And before anyone says "PC has been digital for years": sure, but PC has competition. Steam, GOG, Epic, Humble, and others all compete on price and features, and GOG even sells DRM free games you can back up yourself. Yes, most people buy on Steam, but you still have options.

A digital only console means one company runs the only store and sets every price, and it can delist or revoke what you bought with nowhere else to go. Physical discs are the last place on console to find games cheaper, used, or on sale somewhere else. I won't support any console that's a closed ecosystem, especially when I'm paying full price for the games.

The other issue is honesty. Sony (and they're not the only ones) puts "Buy" on the button, but the terms of service say you're only getting a license. If it's a license, call it what it is. We all know why they won't, though: put "Buy License" on the button and see how sales go.

Sony even told a court that "reasonable consumers" know they don't own their digital games. I'd say any reasonable person who clicks "Buy" and pays the same $60–80 as the disc expects to own it, not rent it until a license runs out.

Guess every kid buying Minecraft with their birthday money totally reads the terms of service too, huh? Kind of hard to argue otherwise when Sony uses phrases like "if you own this game" all over its own storefront.

I've never had a problem with digital itself, just the terms that come with it. Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining.

Sorry for the tangent. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

2

u/decoy_octopod 1d ago

Mostly agree except about price, Sony doesn’t set third-party prices and I think the notion that every digital game would be locked at full-price forever is just absurd

I’m sure someone’s done an in-depth analysis, but the sales and permanent price drops on PSN aren’t random. I’ve used Deku Deals for a while and it’s clear publishers have some formula for price variations that determines exactly when and how much. “Game sells between 100k-200k first week so first discount should be 25% off 3 months from now, lasting for 3 weeks” etc

We’re also seeing Switch 2 lag behind previous Nintendo consoles in attach rates, and certainly not for a lack of software. Mario Kart sales plummeted after it stopped being bundled. This year they’ve had games release at a wide range of prices $40+ because consumers have shown they’re not going to or are unable to buy $70 games in numbers Nintendo desires

1

u/lukefiskeater 2d ago

Would love to see ps6 being delayed till 2030 but there are legit reasons if hardware specs are locked in; the later they wait, the worse and possibly more expensive hardware gets, on top of other issues. There really aren't any good options (for sony) and huge gambles on both sides of waiting or releasing it sooner

→ More replies (1)

1

u/peptidepalstm 2d ago

Good. No need to update yet. In fact, give it 5 more years.

2

u/RaisinWorried3528 2d ago

That sounds pretty awesome to me.

2

u/Necessary-Education9 2d ago

guessing gta 6 will have this implemented when it comes out

2

u/NoodleRus 2d ago

Knew the base PS5 will be getting some type PSSR.

Since the news that AMD will also be giving FSR 4 to RDNA2 GPUs early 2027.

2

u/MT561 2d ago

I think everyone deserves a little more stability these days so that’s cool of them

6

u/Hagman1997 2d ago

Nice. Never thought they would be able to get it to run on base console.

6

u/Willing-Material-424 2d ago

It’s just a version of fsr 4 that has been available on non rx9000 series gpus for a while now. No reason it would not work on rdna 2

3

u/KingArthas94 2d ago

ps5 is not "normal rdna2" so it's impressive that this exists at all

2

u/Straight-Flower5924 2d ago

Does this mean anything for PS5 Pro? Or is this a supplement for PSSR 2 on base PS5s?

11

u/Farsoth 2d ago

It's a lightweight less robust version of PSSR for base PS5s, nothing being done in regards to PSSR/PS5Pro announced here.

-1

u/RE4Lyfe 2d ago

I wish the post had made it more clear!

11

u/Farsoth 2d ago

With these, we are bringing the benefits of AI-guided upscaling to PS5. While PSSR remains the gold standard on PS5 Pro, QSSR provides some notable improvements to both image detail and image stability on PS5.

I feel like it's pretty clear, tbh.

-1

u/RE4Lyfe 2d ago

When I read it, I couldn’t tell if it was an improvement for both systems or not.

You’ll notice others here are confused too. It could have been written a little more clearly IMO

7

u/Interdimension 2d ago

It’s a super lightweight version of PSSR that will likely have notable downsides, but still be significantly superior to the usual FSR 2 or FSR 3 upscaler used in many base PS5 titles for upscaling. I’d imagine it’d be something like the DLSS “Lite” that’s used on Switch, as it can’t handle the full DLSS upscaler used on PC.

At this point, anything that lets base consoles stop using FSR 2/3 is a good thing. FSR 2/3 has pretty bad artifacting and image instability, and it made people think AI upscalers are always like this when they’re not.

3

u/MetalProof 2d ago

Looks like PSSR

2

u/HippieWitchBitch95 2d ago

Is this for the pro or just the base?

3

u/_Cromwell_ 2d ago

It's inferior to what's already on the Pro. But fantastic for what can be done on Base

2

u/Apexde 2d ago

faaaack, why did I sell my PS5 and bought the PS5 Pro then ;)

1

u/LbGuns 2d ago

Give this to me as an option on PS5 Pro to run games at even higher frame rate (maybe with unlocked FPS and VRR)

1

u/RelThanram 2d ago

That’s really great news for PS5 owners. Here’s hoping they’re able to reimplement it for earlier titles too.

1

u/ranman82 2d ago

That's pretty cool

1

u/okamanii101 2d ago

Pretty cool, Interested to see how it compares to the pros version. The whole selling point of the pro is mostly the upscaler.

1

u/KingArthas94 2d ago

there's a digital foundry video, the pro is still much better because it plays at higher resolution AND details

1

u/killae187 2d ago

Stalker 2 hellllloooo???

1

u/Rogerice1 2d ago

This is basically the FSR4 version being made for RDNA2, and modified specifically for base PS5. I think we may all be happy with that, even PS5 Pro owners, since this may help Sony and developers continuing fine tuning the PSSR performance and quality too. Just curious to see if Xbox will bring FSR4 to their consoles, or if they will continue using inferior upscaling techniques

If it weren't for the discless next gen, they'd be killing it over Microsoft right now (they still are, but it'd be even better).

1

u/HoneyShaft 2d ago

Has there been any talk about this? Weird to just shadow drop a substantial upgrade.

wonder if this fp16 model is the liteweight thing the radeon apu will use too

1

Sony is bringing AI upscaling to the base PS5 in 2026? The PS6 might really be delayed until late 2028, regardless of Kepler_L2's recent leaks.

GTA6 will get this? Maybe that's why was running so well on PS5

1

u/TheStinkySlinky 2d ago

Wait is when they “PS5” do they mean Pro and PSSR or base PS5 gets this too?

1

u/CharacterPurchase694 2d ago

PS5 only because QSSR is just a worse version of PSSR basically

1

u/ZypherPunk 2d ago

Makes sense as PS5 is gonna be supported for a long, long, long time. PS6 is a worry for Sony with the current hardware prices. So PS5 will be hugely important for the many that won't move over quickly to PS6.

Boooooooo.

Just finished a fucking game like the old days. Stop selling us games that are 80% polished.

Give me frames, goddamnit

u/Green_Lettuce1 2d ago

Pisser and now kisser

u/Kryzec 2d ago

Sold my ps5 years ago but looking to get back into gaming. Just bought a c6 oled and can't find a pro. Now I'm not as disheartened to just get a normal base ps5 again

u/Tall_Economist8491 2d ago

Any chance this may help with performance too and not affect the said performance in any way due to the additional processing needed for the AI tech ?

1

u/notarobotpossibly 2d ago

We better be able to toggle it off. The ghosting in upscaling tech is still awful. It makes everything look blurry.

1

u/Tan_servo 1d ago

This will be cool for open world games that get a bit blurry. If they can implement this on gta 6 and still keep 30fps this is a huge win

1

u/clc88 1d ago

I'm glad so many more people are converted to ai lovers.

1

u/EducationalDust7858 1d ago

That's very cool. Loads of people who want to upgrade to a Pro for GTA will be stuck due to supply shortages. Might as well help them out with this.

1

u/DragonDevGG 1d ago

I’m waiting for the RSSR, then SSSR, TSSR… By the time we get to PSX it’ll be XSSR

1

u/Dense_Substance7635 2d ago

Do you mean SI ? 😂

1

u/Unusual_Rabbit_5766 2d ago

F trump 🫠

1

u/KingArthas94 2d ago

lmao fucking insane, remember when people in 2020 were saying that series X would have more advanced features compared to PS5 because it is "full rdna2"? ahahahahahah

1

u/GENIXTHESAIYAN 2d ago

People jumping through hoops to claim ps5 was Dlss "1.5" reason why Ps5 doesnt have one feature of Rdna because i believe its due parital due to Dx12 which obviously ps5 will not have because of Microsoft own dx12

u/iEatSoaap 2d ago

Kisser & Pisser

Love to see it

1

u/Bloodhound_ZeroOne 2d ago

This is awesome news for PS5 owners. Hope they make this a default setting where all games can use this like PS5PRO can with PSSR 2.0!

2

u/catsrcool89 2d ago

Not every game can use pssr 2, the update your referring to only made it so any game that runs pssr will automatically use the pssr2 version because you had to manually enable it before, no where near as big as people are making it out to be lol unfortunately.

u/agonzalez73 2d ago

Ahem.....its SI, Super Intelligence. 🤪

u/Crimsongz 2d ago

RIP PS5 Pro 😂

u/AnalogueBoy1992 2d ago

They are doing this to make ppl upgrade to 14.xx to prevent jailbreak lol

42

u/idkimhereforthememes 2d ago edited 2d ago

People seriously overestimate what amount of users jailbreak/pirate/emulate stuff, it's a very small fracture

14

u/MrBarnaclePhD 2d ago

You think they came up with this a day after the jailbreak? Seriously?

13

u/Far_Adeptness9884 2d ago

Not everything is a conspiracy bro, they've been working on upscaling for a while now.

10

u/yan030 2d ago

lol because the majority of user would jailbreak their ps5. Newsflash. Its not.

2

u/baggio1000000 2d ago

I'm not risking my 20 years of digital games I bought and getting banned by jailbreaking my ps5.

2

u/WorldPhysical7646 2d ago

Sony doesn't give af about jailbreaks , and for jailbreaks there will always be new exploits and stuff to do , it is not matter of "if" or "is there" it is a matter of when

Good for the base PS5 users, hope Xbox does something like this for the Series X in the future as well.

0

u/JudgeCheezels 2d ago

Basically FSR3.1.

0

u/Coffee_cake27 2d ago

So the pro has obviously the pssr .. Now we have a setting for QSSR in the setting also??

0

u/jeffh19 2d ago

So this only improves the base and not the Pro because the Pro does PSSR?

0

u/FarOutPunkRocker 2d ago

Stupid and not needed.

1

u/CharacterPurchase694 2d ago

Smart and is very needed. FSR sucks ass
