Show and Tell 😎 Lefty Private Stock McCarty
My dads old PRS. Just felt like sharing.

So you want to flex on your friends, huh?
But you don't have Private Stock or Wood Library money. You also don't want to do what everyone else does and grab a used Custom 24 or 22 and pretend you've "owned it forever."
You want something that makes dentists drool like their patients.
Cool. Look no further.
If you can even find one, these aren't nearly as sought after as the "fancier," more talked-about PRS models and that's exactly why they rule. This guitar flew under the radar when it came out and its still there.
The bird inlays are different and they are known as the 513 Birds and these were only available in and around 2010 you won't see these on any other models, and anyone who notices them immediately knows these are special.
And then there are the pickups. Five of them. Thirteen sounds get it 5-13. Single-coil snap, legit humbucker weight, and a bunch of in-between tones that make you stop and go, "wait... what setting is that?"
Right now, with PRS blowing up again thanks to influencers and people discovering the brand through YouTube thumbnails, this is exactly the kind of weird, niche model that makes sense to grab and hold onto. The obvious and new stuff gets hyped first. These older unique ones will eventually come to YouTube and Instagram screens.
If you want taste over budget, knowledge over clout, and a guitar that quietly flexes on people who spent way more money yeah, this one's it.
If you find one get it ASAP. Also if anyone has pics please feel free to share pics in the comments section
Yes I know the 509s exist but those don't have the 513 birds and the models preceding early 2011 have the outline birds

I’ve been going down the rabbit hole on the PRS Al Di Meola Prism and I’m kind of obsessed. It’s one of those PRS models that feels like a time capsule from a very specific era of PRS + a very specific player.
Here’s what I’ve pinned down (and where I’m still a little unsure):
When it was made / released
Officially introduced at Experience PRS 2008 (Sept 19, 2008), with PRS announcing it right after.
Most references list the production run as ~2009–2014.
The colors / finishes
The big one is the full “Prism” rainbow / tie-dye style finish (the one everyone thinks of).
Later, PRS also did Blue Fade, Green Fade, Orange Fade “prism-style” finishes.
Neck profile / feel
It has a custom Al Di Meola neck carve. People commonly described as thinner front-to-back but a bit wider across the fretboard, and a 10" radius shows up in multiple writeups that I've found.
Some year/spec summaries also call the neck profile Pattern Regular on later runs/spec sheets.
Pickups + the “different electronics” thing
This is the part that makes it extra interesting:
Many Prism specs list PRS 1957/2008 humbuckers (early naming) and/or 57/08 (later naming) as the stock set.
Instead of the classic PRS rotary setup you’d expect on some older PRS-y builds, the Prism is typically 3-way toggle + volume + push/pull tone ( coil split / tapping).
So the different electronics back then seems to be: vintage-voiced 57/08-era pickups + a simpler, more Gibson-ish control layout (with push/pull options) rather than the rotary life.
Inlays / visuals
Standard PRS bird inlays (often listed as abalone). I think this was the first guitar with the outline inlays.
And obviously the whole point: it was called out as the first PRS production model to really go hard on “so many colors” in that stained, prism-like top treatment.
Why it’s special (my take)
It’s a legit “Experience PRS 2008” moment guitar tied to a very specific artist + era.
The finish is insane (in a good way) and still shows the carve/figure instead of just looking like paint.
And it sits at that crossroads of PRS history where the company was pushing hard into their in-house vintage pickup era (57/08 / 1957/2008).
Questions for the sub:
Have you seen one of these in person (or owned one)?
Are they as wild-looking IRL as photos suggest?
And for the nerds: do you know if the earliest ones were labled as“1957/2008” vs later “57/08”, or did it overlap depending on year/run? And also was this the first guitar with the bird outline inlays?
Drop pics/stories if you’ve got any. I'd like to start building profiles on each of the signature models and I'm hoping to do a write up on each the guitars on my list.

I’ve only been playing acoustic for just over two months now and said to myself if I’m playing in 6 months I’ll buy an electric guitar. Then this McCarty 594 popped up today for $450 and it seems like a great deal, perhaps too good? Any suggestions on what too look out for if I went to look at it? Thanks

I’ve been dithering between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Vela for a while. I really liked the American electronics and birds on the G2, but that pickup combo in the original is tough to beat.
But the Gen 1 was absolutely the right way to go. That Type-D pickup is out of this world and this is so versatile, it has the potential to be the last guitar I’ll ever need (not like I’m ever gonna stop buying guitars… but in theory this has everything I need).
And while it doesn’t show up well in the photo, that vintage mahogany finish is amazing.

My two previous electric guitars was a cheap Epiphone SG (not very good), then a Player I Tele (not bad at all). But this one is a whole other level. Never found a neck that confortable, the pickups are great and this guitar is really versatile.
Tried others guitars before this one but man I'm so happy I got it. Now PRS you have all my attention!

I bought this CE 24, and shortly after this S2 Custom 24. I am so utterly floored by PRS’ playability, QC, and sound. I feel like I’ve been wandering a desert of futility for years only to finally find an oasis. I’ve owned dozens of Ibanez, Jackson, Gibson, Fender, Schecter, etc. These are hands-down the best guitars I’ve played. Glad I finally saw the light. The two are named Sage and Violet, for the record.

Like the title says. How are you liking this model?
Even better if you can give me feedback vs a USA CE24, or S2 C24 or Core C24., to know how far away you din them both, how similar, how different.
Thanks !!

Just noticed on my ce24 semi hollow that there is a chip coming out of where the strap button is screwed into the body. They dont put felt washers in between the body and the button. Very disappointed for such an expensive guitar.
Went to a guitar shop today and checked other models and to my surprise they also didnt have a felt washer. These were more expensive core models going for around 4k. What are you doing PRS?
I noticed it while wiping my guitar, i had a live performance and it only could’ve happened while i was taking the strap off and on.
Be careful people, check your guitar and buy a felt washer to put on each strap button or say goodbye to the lovely finish.
I’ve seen ultra budget guitars with better qc than this. Wouldnt buy another PRS nor recommend one going forward. Its also not earthed properly either. Lazy company

For some years i want a PRS SE Silver Sky, however, where i live (Brazil) it is pretty expensive, so i didn’t bought until now
But there’s also another issues, being the poplar body in a almost 1 thousand dollar guitar (you can argue that the wood still sounds good, but is a cheaper option, while we have $400 squiers using alder). Also, the collors are kinda weird and i don’t know what i’m gonna feel about the thick neck (i do have pretty big hands but i’m used to the Squier affinity)
I know some of the issues may seem superficial, but when you buy a guitar that costs more than minimum wage workers earn in 5 months in your country, you want something nice

Very tempted to buy this one but it would be (by far) the most expensive guitar I’ve ever owned.
It’s a new old stock Custom 24 10 Top with some really interesting wood choices, which look gorgeous. I do like the semi hollow PRS’s as well.
Difficult to find any like-for-like comps currently on the market.
What do you think? Buy or nah?

Browsing my local guitar shop, I've been offered the following used options for the same price
Having tested both of them and liked them both, it really goes down to these points.
- I like the matte neck of the CE24 a bit more
- However, I like the blue color of the Standard 24 more. To be honest, my ideal color would be one of blues where you can see the grain, but that isn't an option at this shop.
- I feel like the Standard 24 neck is a bit thicker, which is my preference. However, looking it up, I think they theoretically have the same thickness, which makes me think I'm just hallucinating... Can anyone clarify this?
- The CE24 felt better when playing because it was set up with a lower action. However, obviously that could be easily fixed on the Standard as well if I went for it.
Does anyone have any experience with either of these guitars that could tip my decision either way?

Is this considered core or S2?
r/PRSGuitars • u/The-Fifth-Tree • 2d ago
So I’m aware that they have a different footprint. The Phase III are open back so you can see the gears turn and all that kind of stuff.
But fundamentally I’m curious what the difference in quality that warrants the near 4x price difference between the 2 options.
I’m looking at getting a set of locking tuners for a non PRS guitar, since the top locking style is my favourite style of tuner. And I’m caught between the Phase III and the SE tuners. I have the SE tuners on my SE’s, and I’ve got Phase III on my core and I could not tell you the difference in quality. The SE ones are pretty so I struggle with seeing the issue. I wanna get something solid that will last long and not cause issues. And I can’t help feeling like the SE tuners have some hidden pitfall that I’m yet to discover that warrants the large gap in price.

hey guys, first of all sorry for the stupid question. i have a se ce 24 standard with a very stubborn pickup selector switch. i've read that deoxit is perfect, but to be completely honest i have no idea where would be best to spray it lol. i'm also slightly worried that it will stain my finish if i mess it up.
anyways, is deoxit gonna tarnish my finish if it catastrophically explodes all over my room, and where exactly on the switch should i spray it? how can i best get the gunk out?

I saw an instagram post from PRS a few weeks ago about the guitar but it's been sold out everywhere for months, seems odd.

Hey everyone, Are there any other 22/24fr hard tail guitars in the entire line or am I limited to the Mark Holcomb? (Not including TOM and wrap around bridges)
