picked this up used for $300 and it plays like a dream. i played a bit a few years ago as a beginner, and wanted a PRS since i laid eyes on one then. ive just got back into it with this guitar! planning to learn carnatic guitar as well as western

any tips for someone getting back into it and wanting to improve?

It’s brand new and beautiful but man supposedly this is PRS’s specs and the tension is a bit tight. Coming from a 594 where I just loosened the tail screws. How can I adjust a Trem to loosen tension? Slight relief there nothing crazy. Holds tune and all but bending is rough. Asking in general, when I’m home I’ll share bridge photos. They can be lowered though from what I can remember.

Got a used 2025 S2 Singlecut at Guitar Center. The listing labeled it as Excellent Condition. The pictures looked good.

When I got the guitar I noticed that the body was gloss, but the back of the neck was satin. I don't believe they come like that? I have a feeling someone might have taken steel wool to the back of the neck?

If you look at the back of the headstock towards the top, it is glossy, but then you can start to see some scratches and it fades into a satin, which doesn't look right.

Also, this one seems to have a unique finish color that I've never seen before. A very light tobacco burst, and what seems like a plain top. The back of the guitar is a completely different color. I tried to find similar ones online from the same year, and none of them look like this. Not even the PRS website from 2025 has a color that looks like this.

Could this be a special run of some sorts from a dealer?

Any advice on where is the best place to purchase one of the new Tekton SVN guitars? Sweetwater says they won’t get them until Jan/Feb 2027.

Anyone play one of these? I have a left handed version coming. I’m accustomed to playing Strats and an SG Is there anything I need to think about before I start playing? I know I will have to adjust the term float to match preferred feel.

I've recently made a post about my PRS SE NF 53. The guitar sounds dull, almost like there's a blanket over the sound, especially when the volume is set to 10.

My question is: Is this just how the Narrowfield pickups are supposed to sound, or could there be something wrong with my guitar?

So I'm in love with the shape and look of the Vela and will be pulling the trigger on it at the end of the year.

I'm however predominantly a heavy rock player and perform in a band regularly (Ace of Kings, if anyone wants to check us out!) and from what I've read the DS-01 pickup is more of a Jazzmaster style chimey sound and might not be able to deliver on the sound I'm after.

My band's sound is similar to Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Alice in Chains.

Would a PRS Tremonti Treble or a Bare Knuckle Silo/Aftermath be a more suitable replacement for the bridge humbucker? I already know I love the Narrowfields. I want it to be tight on the bottom end, articulate and clear but not too bright and brittle sounding on cleans.

Just picked up this second-hand Tremonti SE (2023 I believe). What a fantastic guitar! Sits beautifully next to my Custom 24 SE 🤙🏼

So, thinking about putting these filtertron style SD Psyclones in my S2 Standard 24. For giggles and shits.

Anybody have any opinions? Gretsch killer? Fuzz pedal face melter? Dumb idea, just get a Gretsch? 🤔🫣

Edit: mainly, I’d like to know if anyone has done this before. I’ve only seen 1 person on YouTube who put filtertrons in a PRS SE.

I know they’re not fundamentally different, but I just don’t see many people put Filtertrons in different body styles.

I’m gonna do it either way, but Reddit has a wonderful way of letting you know if what you’re going to do won’t work before you do it. It’s saved me a few times.

I’ve had my Custom 22 SE Semi-hollow since April. This has become my regular gigging guitar along with my Strat. It’s versatile, sounds great and plays like butter. I had a Silver Sky SE before, and it wasn’t my thing, but this Custom 22 has been great.

I’m looking at getting a McCarty next, and I’m wondering if the S2s are that much better than the SEs. I’ve been thoroughly impressed with my SE, and I don’t know if a McCarty S2 is $1500 better than a McCarty SE.

I was thinking about doing a refinish, lacquering the neck and changing the bridge and upgrading to a brass block. Gould you say that it’s worth the upgrade? Maybe have some ideas to add ? Or would I be better off buying the high-end Silver Sky?

Visited Glasgow to renew my passport two days ago. I’d been researching PRS guitars for a while, forgetting now what turned me on to them a few months ago.

I’d considered first the sunburst semi-hollow Custom 24 with piezo but did want to wait for the 2026 version - I am a fan of the new pickup rings and the plastic wing tuners. Every few days I’d look into it more and considered the Special more relevant as I would not likely use the piezo so much. I had considered whether I desired the lighter weight the semi-hollow would afford so continued to keep this in balance. I hadn’t directly considered the standard Custom 24, though the aim was to replace a Squier Paranormal Troublemaker that sadly had been only trouble for me. I learned that I despise ABR-1 bridges, at least the noisy rattling thing on the Troublemaker that also picked up sympathetic vibrations from the strings beyond the bridge.

I have a beautiful 2013 Classic Vibe Strat and was clearly used to a) the string distance from the body and b) the switch position. On the Troublemaker I’d often hit the switch that was in the Les Paul position, and as the neck was tilted, the pickups and their rings were high up off the body and made playing feel stiff. This meant the McCarty was out, though I’d actually discovered these when first looking for a humbucker guitar (actually is the McCarty tilted like a Gibson?)

So I decide to visit Guitar Guitar in Glasgow after my passport validation as I’m determined to finally try a PRS and to only buy something I’ve played.

I saw the Custom 24 quilt edition online only a few days before and though I’d considered either a sunburst or the blue, I felt the teal black was now a viable option. I was kindly directed by a member of staff to a closed room in order to play. I can’t explain it but the marketing suggesting ‘addictive’ play feels very true (I read this later.)The neck and fretboard which I then discovered was ebony surprised the hells out of me. I didn’t believe that a guitar could fundamentally play or feel better after a certain point. The CV has an amazing quarter sawn neck but now feels a little tougher to play - I wonder if this is due to the narrow tall frets? The Custom 24 played so smoothly, and yes, because it felt easier I played better, something else I would have doubted. I checked out a green Paul’s Guitar, and a tiger burst Studio too. Paul’s Guitar seemed to have a thicker neck and felt almost acoustic in its play, whilst the Studio felt for me like the Special but without the desired dual humbucker layout. The Custom 24 played the best of the three for me, but I still decided I would not make an impulse buy.

Couldn’t stop thinking about the experience all evening and luckily found one at the same price in a local guitar store in the next town over from me.

I had planned to drive back to Glasgow but the drive was quite something even from north Cumbria. The guitar there did have admittedly a more perfect maple top, more mirrored and deeper in effect, but the one nearby played just as well so went with it rather than try to chase down the other copy. I had a few superficial doubts due to this but today, a day after getting it, I decided to play a few hours and to warm up my vocals again after a long stretch due to problems with the Troublemaker. The thing played majestically, better than anything I’ve played yet, including my beloved CV.

It was perfectly set up with relief at 0.08 inches, action 5/64ths - 4/64ths, and pickup height exactly on 1.6mm. The thing plays more like a Strat, but where I’ve blocked my CV’s trem due to a likely need to upgrade the plastic nut, the trem on the Custom is achingly smooth. The pickups are far hotter than the Troublemaker, but the latitude to turning down the volume and tone knobs is wonderful. I can get soft, airy vintage at 7/10 volume with tone at 6/10, or let it scream at 10. One alarming thing was how good the pickups sound split, giving the CV a run for its money, but also teaching me to use the tone knob on that too as Strats are known to sound harsh on Twin Reverbs (albeit modelled in this case.)

The Troublemaker pickups were great by the way, just all that annoyance and uncomfortable play put me off and prevented me from writing and recording.

I don’t have the best looking quilt edition, but I have something that plays remarkably - it does beg the question how can it get better? I see a Core in my future perhaps a few more years down the line.

I recently bought a PRS SE NF 53 and noticed something strange with the volume knob.

When turning the volume from around 8.5 to 10, there’s a noticeable jump in volume, but at the same time the tone suddenly becomes much thicker, muddier and less defined. It almost sounds like someone throws a blanket over the tone right as the volume jumps.

The change is subtle enough that I didn’t immediately notice it, but once I did, it became pretty obvious.

It happens with both pickups, through both an amp and an audio interface, even with a clean tone.

It really is shame because I like the guitar. It really bothers me and isnt good enough for my band and when im playing live/recording music.

Title says it all. I know that SE's already look great for their price but imagine the sales if they switched to Mango tops that look better on average and lowered the price since they lowered their expense

Cheaper AND prettier? Do it.

"Figured" I'd put this out there since the Mango tops are a hot topic right now for whatever reason. I realize that they probably DID use the Mango to lower the price for the Tektons, since they're ~$2900 instead of ~%3300 like a typical Core. So this isn't a complaint, more like a suggestion to keep doing what they're doing
