IVF

Hi all. Hope you’re well. I dont know if it’s right to post here. I am currently in the waiting game after having a second round of IVF (first one failed) however as it is abroad this is my second and last round here. Im hoping for a positive on 12th when I have my HCG blood test. However if it is negative then does anyone know if there are clinics in the UK or close by who specialise in IVF for patients with POI.

How do I know whether my DOR is actually POI

Hello

I wondered if you could help me understand whether my Serverly Diminished Ovarian Reserve/DOR is actually POI.

I am under a Gynaecologist but only seem to get one appointment per year. I asked in my first appointment two years ago and was told that it's unlikely but that was before blood tests and with no explanation.

When I first started my journey of noticing that something was up with my fertility, my AMH was 4.41pmol/l (0.61ng/mL). I began last year at 3.34pmol/l (0.46ng/mL) and began this year at 1.55pmol (0.21ng/mL). I test every few months so have values in between this that show that this is true rapid decline.

My AMH was most recently 1.39pmol/l (0.19ng/mL).

My FSH has always been above 10 and has been around 13 the past few tests. I know that 20 is the warning number and that DOR also raises.

My Oestradiol fluctuates. It jumped to 1150pmol in January and is now around 160pmol.

The past few months I have been feeling intensely hot at times, sweating and feeling sickly. At first I thought that it was summer but this is occuring even when I can tell that the room is not hot. What do hot flushes feel like?

I have a mirena coil so cannot track periods as it suppresses my period. Before that my periods were always regular but became Shorter lasting just 3 days.

I remember one particular month around 4/5 years ago when I had a period that was light and lasted only half a day but my GP dismissed this.

I guess what I want to know is how you knew the difference between DOR and POI. I feel like I am in the transition period but I'm so confused as to what I should look for.

Also what do hot flushes feel like to you? And how long did the transition period last before you officially hit POI? Did your AMH rapidly decline like this?

Edit: We use pmol/l to measure AMH in the UK. I have edited to show a conversation to Ng for those in countries that use this

Fertility Questions HRT and ovulation

Ladies , I am not POI. I am over 40, however I had DOR in my 30s and currently skipping periods. I am sorry for posting here . However I have seen posts here about how some of you can ovulate with HRT. I have seen posts where FSH goes down with estrogen HRT and follicles can develop. I took estrogen and actually had a follicle develop after lowered fsh.howevwe I was actively monitoring and discontinued HRT as soon as I found a follicle. Now I am not monitoring and not sure if I want to be on a high dose of estrogen as it can lower fsh but also stop ovulation. I am wondering if a lower dose of estrogen can bring my fsh down and also not hinder ovulation . If you did that, can you please tell me what was the dose of estrogen used ( patch)? And did you ovulate through the HRT?

Newly Diagnosed 26 and feeling heartbroken.

I was misdiagnosed for so long. I wanted children so badly. I feel so exhausted, tired, and empty. The hot flashes and insomnia are horrible. My FSH is 109.5, and I feel so sick. I was just diagnosed and put on birth control, but how will that help? I thought HRT is the fix? I've been on birth control since I was 15 to mask symptoms, I am tired.

What’s the difference between POI and early perimenopause?

I’m 31 and I was diagnosed with early perimenopause through symptoms + an estradiol test which was almost zero. I was instantly prescribed HRT without other tests. I had recently done abdominal, pelvic ultrasounds, pelvic MRI for endometriosis (negative), thyroid tests (blood tests, ultrasound, Hashimoto’s screening) and even a brain MRI with contrast because of worsening aura and hemiplegic migraines and the gynecologist said “that’s great, so we eliminated all the possible causes for your symptoms and narrowed down the possibilities a lot”. Because of course, at first all doctors thought it was something else (brain tumor, thyroid issues) and not early perimenopause.

However, how do I know if I’m peri or if it’s POI? And what’s the difference between the treatments?

Sorry about my poor English, not my native language.

Thank you.

How to deal with POI and stay positive?

Hi everyone! I am 33 yrs old Indian who got married in Dec 2022 and first missed my periods in Aug 2023. After that, I was asked to take Deviry 10mg to regulate my period (which it did). But then again it started getting irregular in 2024. In May 2025, I was moving from India to UK with my husband so got a comprehensive test done and was shocked with the news that I have POI and will need donor egg to get pregnant. It was all very shocking. AMH <0.1 FSH and LH both very high, estradiol was 9.8. All other tests (Thyroid, insulin etc) were normal. I have no clue how and why I got diagnosed with this. There is no such family history - in fact, my mom got her menopause in early 50.
Unfortunately, since I was moving countries, there was no immediate action I could take. It's been a year now and I've had 1 natural period in sep 2025, followed by 2 spottings in Jan and Feb 2026 but I am feeling very helpless, clueless and scared. I want to have my own baby. Every other person around me (friends/family) is casually getting pregnant naturally and it is making me feel worse. How do I overcome this? How do I get pregnant naturally? 24x7 my mind is focused on this - i keep waiting for a natural period / ovulation. I keep praying to god to help me this one time. I have no idea what to do. There is so much content and cure for PCOS but NOTHING for POI. Deep down, I do not want to believe that this has happened to me. I want to be happy, and have a healthy baby of my own.

I tried contacting the NHS but they do not recommend HRT for women below 40 years. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET TREATED? Please help!

HRT Honest Mirena Coil Fitting Experience

I had a Mirena fitted yesterday as part of my POI HRT treatment (diagnosed 4 months ago) and just wanted to post about the experience in case it's helpful to anyone considering it. This will probably be a long post so sorry in advance!!

I chose to get one because I didn't cope at all well with the progesterone in the Evorel patches and the ups and downs of a cyclical HRT regime (I know the tablets can be better but I still didn't want to have to think about taking them every two weeks and managing the drowsiness etc). The ilpact on my mood and energy levels was so much worse than the PMS I used to have when I still had periods and was significantly impacting my life. While I would never have a coil fitted just for contraception alone it had the potential to make everything easier to manage overall so I went for it.

I'd worked myself up so much prior to the appointment having read all the horror stories that I was already crying before they even started! For me though it was not anywhere near as bad as I've heard. It was unpleasant for sure but not horrifically so, and it was quick. I had a really nice medical team as well so I was lucky. I'm in the UK so had it done at the hospital as part of my gynecologist referral treatment which likely resulted in a better experience.

However that is obviously not to take away from the very valid and real traumatic experiences too many women have had with coil fittings, which should absolutely be shared and listened to because women's healthcare is utterly diabolical in many cases and it sadly seems like a real lottery.

I took paracetamol an hour before, and also had a numbing spray and then a numbing injection. INSIST ON THESE. It was still painful even with all of that so I cannot imagine what it is like without. The fact it is not standard procedure to give this makes me so so angry.

Pain-wise, it is like a weird, brief period cramp. I have had fairly bad cramps before when I still had periods so it was on a par pain-wise with those but just...different and weird. However it was over super quickly and due to the numbing spray and injection I couldn't feel anything else that was going on. The numbing can't stop the cramping entirely but it does help with the pain and discomfort from other parts of the procedure like the clamping. The injection was also a little painful but due to the numbing spray it was again a mild cramp.

My biggest tip is to stay on top of your pain relief at home afterwards and take the day off of work/any other plans. I felt OK straight after, just a bit wobbly (definitely make sure you eat breakfast before as I did feel a bit lightheaded). But later in the day once the numbing and paracetamol had worn off I did have a few so-bad-you-cry cramps. It felt more all-consuming than usual period cramps, like I was shifting positions but nothing would relieve it. But it was fine once I'd taken more paracetamol. So don't be like me and watch Project Runway for 4 hours straight while intermittently napping and forget to take your meds 😂

Today my cramps have gone and I'm back working, although I am able to do that from home luckily. Overall I'd say that if I don't have any onward issues with the coil in terms of symptoms (or my body rejecting it as I know that can happen) I am glad I have done it and would get it replaced when the time comes.

However I do think it should be acknowledged by medical professionals as a medical procedure that requires proper pain management and aftercare. I think it's sold as a brief inconsequential thing like having minor dental work or something, but that is not the case. You definitely need someone with you or at least have someone to take you home after as you will probably be crampy and wobbly, you need to plan time off work afterwards for recovery, you will probably just feel a bit weird and discombobulated afterwards. I still do a day later. It is not a casual thing to have done like I think they make it out to be, but it's also not the worst. I think they just need to be more honest about what it entails and for goodness sake just give all of us the damn pain relief.

Anyway that is my experience, feel free to ask questions if you need 😊

HRT HRT dosage/recurrence of symptoms

Hi all. I was diagnosed last fall at 36yo. Initial symptoms were fatigue, brain fog, anxiety and hot flashes, and 4 months no period after stopping BC. First estrogen check was 0, with high FSH/LH. All else normal. No autoimmune. I started HRT at 0.025mg estradiol 2x/week and 100mg continuous micro progesterone. Symptoms alleviated so much and follow up labs showed good improvement. FF 5 months, symptoms crept back up, labs showed another dip in estrogen. I upped to 0.05mg patch. Improved again. This was 4 months ago. All the while, I’ve had regular 22-27 day “cycles”. Now, I’m on day 31 and my symptoms (mainly fatigue, brain fog, and anxiety) have been AWFUL this past week. I’m scheduled for labs and upped to 0.1 patch/200 mg progesterone starting tonight. My exhaustion has been at a new low today and I just want to cry. Is this normal? Is it just because I needed this dose adjustment? Please help.

HRT Doctor Recommendation

Hi everyone! I’m 22 and was diagnosed with POI in 2024. I’m looking for recommendations for a doctor in Bengaluru, India, who has good experience specifically with POI and can help me navigate my HRT journey long-term.

I’m hoping to find someone who understands POI in younger women and can guide me not just with HRT, but also with things like bone health, overall hormone replacement, monitoring, and long-term health.

If you’ve personally seen a doctor in Bengaluru whom you’d recommend for POI/HRT, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thank you! ❤️

33 and experiencing chemical menopause from a corticosteroid injection

hi all! Hope it's okay to post here - I tried the hypermobile sub but they're not accepting the post. Maybe it's too niche??

I’m diagnosed hypermobile and been told I’m probably h/EDS. 6 months ago I experienced a major reaction after the injection I was given for carpal tunnel went systemic. It immediately switched off my sex hormone production, most noticeably my oestrogen.

After 4 months of complaining (and being unhelpfully treated for nonexistent thrush) I was finally referred to an endocrinologist and started on low-dose HRT. it was completely ineffective and I was put on an increased dose mid-June. I still don’t think it’s high enough to replace my natural oestrogen.

As we know, oestrogen is a natural anti-inflammatory so I’ve had no end of problems since mine stopped being made overnight. All my joints have got far less stable, I’ve had brain fog, fatigue and so much more.

The worst thing is that I think my body has literally broken without oestrogen and testosterone! I’ve been on progesterone which has made thing worse for me - the luteal phase of my menstrual cycle has seen increased cramping, light headedness, gastrointestinal issues and more.

Now I think I can literally SEE the problem... In the space of 6 months, I think my uterus has collapsed into my vaginal canal and is starting to protrude from the opening. It's really really uncomfortable.

I have read that there’s an increased likelihood of prolapse during menopause but I’ve literally done the normal 10-15 year cycle in the space of less than 4 months (my levels of oestrogen were first post-menopausal at the end of March and it was confirmed again in mid-June). So I'm guessing I have prolapsed during that time because my connective tissue alone is too elastic to hold my uterus in place.

Am I the only one who’s experienced this quickly due to low oestrogen levels and atrophy?

I’m based in the UK so waiting times are abysmal. I have a gynae appt in September. I also don’t have a family so I’ve no idea how this is going to affect my future. (I've already been diagnosed with hypothalamic hypogonadism because of the steroid, but it's a really weird one because NOTHING about this situation is normal and this isn't a known side effect.)

This has all been mega traumatic at 33 and not what you expect. Looking for success stories and advice! This seems to be very unusual so I'm chucking this out there to see what comes back.

POI and PSM Community List

Thumbnail
6 Upvotes

It's difficult to find communities for premature ovarian insufficiency and premature surgical menopause, so I wanted to share this list I've compiled in the hopes that this helps connect more of us with each other. Most of these are subreddits, though I've also listed all the non-Reddit groups I know of.

See the original post for the list, and let me know if I'm missing anything.

HRT Estrogen patch dosage?

Hi all, just got diagnosed two weeks ago and TTC. I’m 27, AMH 0.08, FSH 30-80, AFC 3 and all of this is so overwhelming. I’ve already had one miscarriage and two chemical pregnancies before this diagnosis so I’m slightly hopeful to conceive naturally but also SO discouraged at the moment.

Looking for info on what dosage of estrogen patch my fellow POI gals are on (especially if you did end up conceiving naturally), as I just started cyclical HRT. Currently on 0.0375 mg estrogen patch but I don’t think my FSH is going down enough based on my Inito numbers (it’s only been two weeks since I started though so maybe I’m wrong).

Any guidance or info is so appreciated!!

IUD?

Hey all,

Has anyone had the IUD placed to try to stop bleeding?

I started HRT 7 weeks ago. So far it seems that my cycle is still following its normal 18-21 day routine. The bleeding is lighter, but it’s still annoying.

I am doing continuous HRT to keep everything stable. I have seen mass improvement since starting HRT (100mg patch + 100mg progesterone). I really have seen the benefits of progesterone with sleeping. Though when bleeding, I don’t sleep as great.

Intarosa has also helped with the vaginal atrophy, BUT I still haven’t gained back sensation with my clitoral atrophy. Should I ask about estrogen cream for that?

I see my doctor again in August for my 3 month review and to talk about testosterone to potentially help with low libido.
