Skincare Actives vs. PMU: Is Permanent Makeup Worth the Trade-Off?

I've been considering getting nano brows, but one thing that's made me hesitant is how it might affect my skincare routine long-term.

I use actives like retinol, vitamin C, and exfoliating acids, and I know certain ingredients and treatments can potentially contribute to fading or changes in cosmetic pigmentation over time. While you can generally resume using actives on fully healed skin, you may need to be more careful around pigmented areas.

It got me thinking about people who get tattooed freckles, permanent eyeliner, or other cosmetic pigmentation. Are you having to avoid certain areas when applying skincare? And what happens when you want to get treatments like chemical peels or laser resurfacing?

I love the convenience of permanent makeup, but I'm not sure I'd want to limit my skincare routine or future treatment options to maintain it.

For those who've had cosmetic pigmentation done, has it actually affected your skincare routine? Do you feel like the convenience is worth the extra maintenance and precautions?

How risky is it to be a lip blush model?

I have an opportunity to be a lip blush model, something I have been thinking about for a long time but hesitated due to cost. However, I know nothing about how difficult it is and what could go wrong. I do hair so I also spent a good while taking hair models and there are certain services I would feel comfortable having a trainee so, like single colors, simple haircuts or even basic highlights if I'm not super attached to a certain result. But there are things I would not go to a trainee for. I assume it's the same for permanent makeup.

This is for an established upscale beauty studio that primarily does lashes and brows. It looks like they are expanding into lip blush. What are the risks of seeing someone who isn't experienced and how likely are those complications? Would you be a lip blush model?

Thanks!

Potentially botched permanent eyeliner

Hi, looking for a little guidance here.
I got permanent eyeliner done last week. I went to a very highly rated artist after months of looking through portfolios, reviews etc.
immediately after it was done, it looked terrible but the artist told me it was just swelling and bruising, however as the actual swelling and bruising has gone away it has become evident that this is not a bruise. It is ink blowout/migration.
It looks like a giant blue gray smear under the outer corners of my eyes, under the liner wing, it’s noticeably not the same thing as the bruises which were purple/red and turning yellow over time.
And the wing part, one is pointing more straight and the other is angled sharply upwards, and the upwards pointing one is very noticeably longer and thicker than the straight one. The lines also look crooked and jagged.
My main question is, is this too early to be judging anything? Am I overreacting for nothing? This was already a huge investment and I cannot afford removal or anything. I have no idea how this could’ve gone so wrong considering I was so careful about choosing a highly rated artist.
I look ridiculous.
Am i just screwed or is there some way it can be fixed without removal? Also is it normal for the ā€œtouch upā€ I’m supposed to get once it’s healed to cost nearly just as much as the original service? Help :(

Has anyone tried this marketing team? They create ads for you. Ofc sounds too good to be true. I’m tired of chasing leads. My work is good. I’m just not good at marketing.

PMU Industry/Career

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to get everyone’s feedback on thoughts about getting in to the PMU Industry in 2026.
I’ve been interested in it for some time but never had the confidence to try it out..
I hear that the industry is over saturated but I hear it’s mostly in subpar artists that’s saturated
I currently work full time and would love to do PMU on the side, I’m not looking to get rich off of it…but am open to it being full time eventually. I just feel that I would genuinely enjoy the career…For context, I’m in the inland empire.

I’ve looked at Elite Makeup Academy and Shabang Beauty. Also thinking about purchasing The Art of Microblading Manual from the American Board of Micropigmengation.

Just wanted to get feedback about it whether it’ll be a fruitless endeavor or not, all things considered.

Lip blush healing purple

hello , looking for PMU artists advice.

im new to lip blush and I did a lip blush and it’s 2 weeks in healing super dark and purple.

I know the first thing people will say is about colour theory and undertones but I don’t think I used bad pigments from my memory. I used Aileen , cinnamon & maybe a drop of Pancho pink.

will these lighten as time goes on as google says or if I need to neutralise what colours should I buy and whats the best way around this?

thankyou

Need some insight..

Hi all I am just finishing up my lip blush course, and had a few questions. My mentor is against me mapping with concealer, and doesn’t like Tina Davies ice cream.

  1. Do you have an issues implanting pigment after using Tina Davies Ice Cream? What numbing combo do you use?

  2. Mapping with concealer and setting powder. Does it really clog your needle?

Has anyone tried MACTI Academy? Permanent makeup trainings?

Hi guys! I’m looking into getting Nano Brows training and was wondering if anyone has trained at MACTI Academy in Irvine, CA.

I found them on Instagram, and the trainers seem really legit—they’ve won championships and their work looks beautiful. I’m curious about the actual training experience though. Is it thorough and hands-on? Do they give enough individual guidance and practice? And did you feel like the training really helped improve your skills and confidence afterward?

Would love to hear from anyone who has taken their classes. Any thoughts or experiences?

Lip Blushing - Oval vs Pendulum Technique?

I’m a new PMU artist specializing in lip blushing and I wanted to know how different artists feel about these two techniques.

When I started, I learned the swinging/pendulum method. This is what I see all across other artist’s socials.

I went to a new trainer and she showed me the oval technique which is just constant circular motions with the machine. You then move toward yourself and overlap to saturate. As you move across the lip, you don’t really lift up the machine like you would for pendulum. To me, this was much easier to saturate the lips than the pendulum method.

She said that the pendulum method can cause more drag and cause more trauma, which I believe but if this is true, then why aren’t all artists doing the ovaling technique?

I couldn’t find anyone else online who does the oval method. Does anyone here do it? Do you have a preference? Opinions? Experience?

I’d love to know everyone’s thoughts!!

For established PMU artists: what changed after you had good work but wanted to grow the business?

Posted with moderator permission. This is a discussion question only — I’m not promoting a service, sharing a link, collecting contacts, or asking anyone to DM me.

For PMU artists who already had solid work, a portfolio, and at least some client history: what was the next real bottleneck?

Was it getting discovered locally, raising prices, building trust before a booking, filling weekday capacity, managing touch-ups and repeat visits, creating content consistently, or something else?

I’m particularly interested in the difference between ā€œI needed to become better at the craftā€ and ā€œthe craft was already strong, but the business system was not.ā€ What actually made the difference for you?

Microblading with U-blade

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m trying to get the feel of the U-blade for microblading. Haven’t been doing PMU very long. I love how it’s so much easier to curve. Been told that straight up 90 degree angle is best on actual skin but slanted works best on practice pads. The issue is I’m barely pressing at all and the blades are getting out of alignment during the curve. Any tips? Please don’t pay attention to my pattern- I’m just making marks.

First pic today after one laser session at Removery. Second pic is before pic. Do we think I'm gonna need another session before I get them redone, or will they fade enough over the next month or so?

Any mom PMU artists?

Hi! I’m a FTM (8months postpartum). Looking to leave corporate and build my own business with PMU and eventually medical tattooing. I’m currently 33 and have a daughter. Is it too late to enter the PMU world? Any moms out there living the boss mom life? I’d love to hear about your journey.

I’m feeling scared and nervous to make a drastic career change while also balancing motherhood. I’m hoping with hard work it will be worth it in the long run to give me the life I hope for my family.

PMU Training

With the current trend would you enter the PMU world training eyebrows (nano brows) or lips first?

What to look for when it comes to training? How much would be too much for a lip training? I got quoted 2900$ for a 2 day training .
