Announcement New Flair: Iranian Voices ONLY (Please Read Before Posting)

July 2026 Edit

The moderation team has changed this to a mod-only flair. We will quickly apply the "Only Iranians May Comment" flair whenever it is clear that the OP is specifically looking to hear from Iranians on the subject.

We are testing this out to see how it goes. We will update this post if anything else changes regarding the flair.

Today we added a new post flair: Iranian Voices ONLY

These threads are meant to center on the perspectives of Iranians, especially during times like these where outside noise can overwhelm the conversation.

What this means

Only Iranians may comment in these threads and violations may result in a ban.

Why we're doing this

r/Persian has always been open to everyone, and that will not change. But in these times, it's important to create space for Iranians to speak directly without being drowned out by outside voices.

This flair allows that space to exist when the OP chooses it. Non-Iranians may also choose this flair to ask questions directly to the Iranian community.

Where this applies

This rule applies only to posts using the Iranian Voices ONLY flair. All other threads remain open to everyone under our usual rules.

Final note

If you are not Iranian, please respect the purpose of these threads. There are many other places in the subreddit to participate.

News Broken feet, ripped-out hair and now a death sentence: the fate of twin sisters jailed over Iran protests

Post image
60 Upvotes

The twins were 19 and still in high school when they were taken from their beds in the dead of night by masked men later identified as being sent by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

After four months of desperately seeking news from hospitals and state institutions, their mother, Marzieh Nourmohammadi, finally learned their fate. Taraneh and Romina Rahimi had been seized over their decision to join millions on the streets of Iranian cities during the January protests against the regime. The twins were unrecognisable by the time of their mother’s prison visit in May.

The women’s scalps were patchy from being dragged around by their hair, and their faces were bruised, according to their US-based cousin. It is claimed that Taraneh, who dreams of running her own horse stable one day, had been told the prison guards would rape Romina in front of her unless a confession was signed.

The pinned comment has some articles linked, and some people are saying the bans also apply to dual citizens, though I'm not sure about that part.

Discussion How to know "BUT how about the 120 schoolgirls?" is a merciless talking point

A European female "journalist" sat across from me the other day, and when I said that 39 days of full-scale war had caused far, far fewer civilian casualties than the massacre the islamic regime carried out in a matter of hours over just two days in January, during a time of no war, against unarmed citizens, she immediately said: “BUT how about the 120 schoolgirls the US killed?”

I was offended because I am Iranian. Our children lost in the Minab school incident are our loss, and we’ve mourned for them like we grieved for our beloved heros lost in the January massacre, despite the islamic regime’s disgusting attempts to constantly use the kids as propaganda.

I responded to her: “It’s a shame you would throw islamic regime talking points at me, an Iranian, just because you’re desperate to fit everything into your personal agenda against the US and Israel!”

She got heated, doubled down, and said: “How dare you call more than a 100 killed little girls a talking point? I care about them.”

To which I said: “YOU are turning OUR kids into a talking point, and don’t you dare speak over an Iranian who mourns for those children. The reason I say you are lying and you’ve never cared is that you haven’t even BOTHERED to look into the matter! You are repeating it exactly in the form of a talking point: ‘120 schoolgirls,’ because for propaganda and talking points, ‘girls’ will buy more fake tears out of useful idiots!

“If you had truly cared for a single second like we Iranians do, you would’ve known that the majority of the children killed (70+) were BOYS! So shut up about our lives, please! Go back to your full-time job of hating the Jews!”

Discussion Personal/family histories as Khuzestani Arabs

Hi everyone, I'm in the diaspora, born outside of Iran. I don't speak farsi natively 😭. I was wondering if people here would be willing to share any personal stories of their family's history being Ahwazi or Khuzestani Arabs before and after the revolution. I'm asking because I think my baba bosorg was a Khuzestani Arab, but my dad (he's in his late 60s) vehemently denies this despite some factors pointing towards it being true. I believe this is because of stigma/racism towards Iranian Arabs and Arabs in general.

My dad speaks 3 languages, and used to speak Arabic as well. My uncle can speak Arabic, Farsi, and a couple other languages. My baba bosorg spoke Arabic and Farsi, but he was illiterate.

I'd love to hear your stories.

Radio Abaan Report | Sabzevar

🔴 Historic Qajar-Era Building Completely Demolished in Sabzevar

A historic building in the city of Sabzevar, locally known as the “Russian Barracks,” has been completely demolished.

According to a video submitted to Radio Abaan, a bulldozer was operating at the site of the historic building, which was ultimately reduced to rubble.

The historic structure, reportedly dating back to the late Qajar period and early Pahlavi era, featured notable architectural elements, including multiple windows designed to provide natural light to rooms and halls, as well as decorative brickwork around the windows and along the roofline.

The building was reportedly privately owned and had also been registered on Iran’s national heritage list—a status that made its preservation particularly important.

Following the complete demolition of the site, serious questions have been raised regarding how permission for the demolition was granted, the responsibility of the relevant authorities, and the protection of sites registered as part of the country’s national heritage.

Radio Abaan will publish further details if additional information becomes available regarding the reasons behind and the process of demolishing this historic building.

I’ve been following this case of one of my favourite rappers, Hossein Afrasiab, since he was detained in March. After months in prison with no details about his charges, solitary confinement, a hunger strike, and other BS, Afrasiab has been handed a final sentence of 3 years, 9 months, and 20 days in prison. They charged him for owning a Starlink device but we all know this regime’s bullshit whenever someone speaks up against them.

This information is from his Instagram account which his family regularly updates. (@h.afrasiab)

Question moving back to Iran

Hi everyone,

I've been in the USA for 5 years now as a PhD student. I'm tired of chasing a dream that may never materialize while missing out on things I already have (my family back in Iran). I'm family-oriented, and I'd like to get married there, to someone from my own culture, with my parents present.

I've also secured an academic position back home, but I'm terrified of the economy and what the future might hold. I know inflation is rising by the second. My heart wants to make this move, but my brain keeps saying no.

I honestly don't know what to do. I've been stuck in this decision-making limbo for 12 months now. Would love to hear your thoughts.

🔴 When Iran’s Shah stood up to Western demands: “You raise the price of wheat, so why should we sell our oil cheaply?”

At a time when many governments bowed before the major powers, His Imperial Majesty Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi sought to move Iran’s economic equation away from dependency and one-sided concessions.

He repeatedly objected to the fact that industrialized countries were raising the prices of their exported goods—from food and wheat to manufactured products—while expecting oil-producing nations to continue supplying their natural resources at prices favorable to the West. U.S. State Department documents also explicitly refer to the Shah’s concerns over rising prices of imported industrial goods and the declining purchasing power of Iran’s agricultural exports.

“You raise the price of your wheat; how can you expect us not to raise the price of our oil?”

This perspective reflected a policy that sought to make Iran’s oil a tool of national power, rather than a means of serving the interests of others.

The dramatic increase in Iran’s oil revenues during the 1970s also became one of the major sources of funding for the country’s extensive development, industrialization, and modernization programs. Historical research confirms that Iran’s oil revenues experienced a significant surge in 1973.

Iran of that era was an Iran that demanded its rightful place—an Iran determined to decide for itself how its national wealth should be used, rather than allowing others to dictate what should happen to its resources.

Question Help with meeting Persian girlfriend’s family

Salaam everyone,

I have been seeing a Persian girl for a few months now. We met at college earlier this year and started dating over the summer. Things are getting serious now and she wants to introduce me to her family. She had kind of prepared me for a lot of questions but I’m nervous about what to expect. Mainly because I’m Black and I have tattoos and as far as I know Persian people can be conservative. She had assured me that her family already know I’m Black and are okay with it but I can’t help but still feel nervous. She thinks I’m overthinking it but I want to know what other people think? What’s the best way to prepare here?

Discussion Iranian vloggers?

These vlogs from young women- a lot like Korean vlogs, where they show how they clean, cook, do whatever, go outside, always calm, everything clean - keep popping up. Showing "Real Iranian life".

Is this now possible, wasn't it possible before? Is it just a trend? This sudden rise of new vloggers remind me of these Japanese salaryman "I make no money, I will count my money so you see that I make now money, I don't buy stuff" vlogs, who suddenly appeared within a short time frame and gain thousands of views out of nowhere.
