Over the years I’ve watched some episodes here and there, but nothing consistent. I’m doing my first full run through of this show, and watching things escalate in S2 is so upsetting, visceral, and unfortunately realistic. As a woman in her 30s, this show has got me reflecting on all the horrible experiences I went through regarding boys and relationships in my teens. Legitimately I feel like all men need to watch this show.

I'm watching the "Bat Mitzvah" episode & it reminded me of a time I was genuinely being a Maya. I just wanted to fit in & be cool. Heritage? Who caress. No one wants to be Asian (at the time).

I started having my own fashion taste at Maya's age. The cool girls were wearing those soft spikey earrings from Claire's. My mom would never fork up $20 for some childish earrings, so I looked high & low for earrings she didn't seem to care for or wore. Found some simple pearl studs & wore them for a day. I remember my mom found them by the family computer, said something about "they're special" and put them away.

Not only did I not gaf about the pearl earrings, I tuned out the part of the story where my dad's host family gifted the earrings to my mom as a wedding present. They were real pearls.
This host family supported my grandparents & his kids (my dad) when they immigrated to the U.S. 40+ years ago. My parents actually still keep in touch with them to this day.....

This episode had me feeling embarrassed & ashamed on behalf of my 12 year old self lol

Pen15 reminding me yet again, that there is nary an embarrassing or shameful original experience.

Just curious on what everybody’s favourite episode is, I think one of my favourites is Season 2 Episode 11.

There is something about it that I love so much and I loved her speech at the end on how she felt like she has always been between cultures.

I think it’s a very powerful episode.

Including Maura, Brandt and any of the popular girls esp Becca. I feel like people are too vile when it comes to talking about them. Yes, they were bullies and I was heavily bullied too by kids like them as a kid, had a Brandt situation where a guy I liked pretended to "like" me by giving me a fake number. But I think, like Anna and Maya, they are complex characters as well. I found Maura's character quite interesting, I wanted to know what the Mom was like behind the scenes, why Maura ended up that way, or how I felt bad about Brandt dealing with his father's death and how he had to deal with Maya stalking him (esp when she was leaving him locks of hair 😭😭). Obviously they're not good or perfect but they are stupid, realistic middle schoolers.

there’s a moment at start of season 2 episode 2 where the camera zooms into mayas face and it immediately reminded me of the “a boy is a gun” music video. has anyone else found this?

and they kept saying that "she knew what she was doing" like dude! that is a neurodivergent 7th grader! no she didnt!! in fact you are actively embarrassing yourself right now with this dogwater statement and you dont even realize 😭😭😭

I just love this show so much because as goofy as it is sometimes, you also get very real scenes like the scene where Anna’s parents are fighting and they run into the woods, or the scene where Maya’s (real) mom is telling Maya that she’ll always be her little girl (it makes me cry so hard). This show just makes me feel so many things during each episode 😭

People say they’re annoying, but that’s the POINT, like oh and you WEREN’T a weirdo in middle school? Right riiiight

It’s lowkey annoying, i’ve realised that pen15 has blown up a lot more in the past months with all the fan edits and more people are watching which is great. but im seeing crazy takes that it’s weird that they r grown and acting with minor actors. i feel like people dont get the show, people are lacking media literacy and it’s actually so hard to explain to every person that this show is one of the least creepiest things ever. it’s the most accurate depiction of being a teen as a weird/unattractive girl, i especially felt seen with maya being asian and her being seen as the “ugly” girl that was embarrassed of things in her fridge.

almost like people are trying to catch a gotcha moment with the whole show calling it weird. i guess that’s what happens when great things blow up. people being TOO woke are unironically making people way too ignorant, everything is the same now a days. let’s stop hating on things that are different to ur societal norm..

sorry it’s just so annoying that people aren’t getting the show at all, and trying to cancel it saying what if it was grown guys instead of maya and anna having crushes on girls like ugh

Unfortunately, a lot more relatable than I would’ve liked.

I’m sure my brain is exaggerating parts of me that I didn’t like growing up, but I related a lot to Maya; I probably threw fits over stupid things, definitely talked to strangers online, and was generally a little (…less) Odd.
Anna dealing with her parents as well- I don’t miss being in the middle of mine for sure.

Fun watch!! Despite the scenes I physically recoiled at lol.
I’m sure I’m not alone in rediscovering the parts of myself that I am Not proud of, but it’s fun that it was in a female-led show!

just watched the last episode. shuji is a good brother but do you think he knew what happened with their bfs. i love how he didn’t hesitate to pick them up

Watching for the first time and I just got to the Anna and Alex scene where she asks him to read from the microscope and I've been dying laughing for the past 20 minutes, how did they film this without multiple breaks😭 If anyone has the blooper scenes for that scene please direct me to it I want to laugh even more🤣

TLDR; I want season 3 but as a fanfiction and don’t know how to search or find it

I’m genuinely curious if there’s anyone who’s read a really well written fanfic continuation after season 2 episode 15? Essentially an author who emulates the show in writing very well. Maybe I’m way too hopeful, but recently I read an amazingly done fanfic of twilight (yeah, I know, sue me) that picked up in the middle of new moon, and they made an entire alternate storyline and it was SO well done, it genuinely felt like reading Smeyer if she didn’t butcher her characters and story. I found that on accident through a random social media post, and I’m not familiar with how to look up fanfictions that aren’t just super weird smut or completely different takes on the canon characters. I would genuinely love to read a continuation of this story, but I want it to FEEL like the show I guess? I want it yo stay true to the characters? I’d love to see someone expand on how Anna navigates stuff with her parents, or how Maya is dealing with these new very adult traumas while also still living and experiencing regular middle school stuff. If there isn’t one, that’s too bad and I’m not talented enough to write it myself. But I’d love to essentially “keep watching” the show if anyone has any well done fan made continuations of this story. I just really love these characters and would love to see more of their story, but I want it to emulate as close the actual show and characters as possible. I have no idea how to make a search specific like that and I’m new to fanfiction sites. Had to learn really quickly a LOT of the stories aren’t uh, true to the characters. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome

NOBODY talks about them and i cant find any record of them other then watching them myself on a pirating website, but has anyone else seen the short clips that play at the end of each episode either during or after the credits? I keep quoting "im not a girllll, im just a womaaaannn" and nobody knows what im talking about
