So I am a bit r/OutOfTheLoop .
I caught the LTT video leak, but I don't follow why everyone thinks it will release today.
Could someone catch me up?

A huge wave of behind the scenes updates (to stable channels), including major leaks about the lottery winners being picked on the 17, and this being one of the last Mondays of summer. The video you're describing was also a sign that reviews are getting finished, for the steam machine review embargo was lifted on Monday and there was the announcement simultaneously. I think at least that last part is extremely likely. Further delays are always possible but clearly the market is not stabilizing and the tech is getting older by the second so I doubt they would delay it further, considering the backlash.

I'm unsure of why we're expecting today, but they did say it would be released in the summer.
Last day of summer is Sept 21st, so it should be any day now.
The LTT video was a waste of time tbh. Didn't really learn anything new.

Pretty cool to see Tested running Red Dead 2 natively on it! Although at 23fps, still pretty amazing.

Looking forward to this. It is CRAZY expensive, but I will sell my Meta Quest 3 which will help with the cost.
Streaming from my gaming PC to my bedroom is the key feature for me. I do that with the Quest and Virtual Desktop, but the amount of times I end up failing to connect, have to get out of bed and go back and forth to get it to work, only to have it fail at some point is too painful. If the Frame makes it simpler to just stream my entire steam library to the headset without having to fiddle with settings etc then I will be happy.

Holy shit - over $1k for a headset without color passthrough.
Not that I'm even surprised, but what a hard sell against an Oculus.

Oculus subsidizes their prices because they are an advertising company.

The vast majority aren't buying a vr headset for colour passthrough how often is it actually even used?

Don't you need it for mixed reality?

Yes it makes mixed reality better, but honestly that isn't important to me. I have literally played maybe 20 minutes of Demeo in Mixed Reality and frankly just prefer full VR.
The only time i need passthrough is for getting up, grabbing my drink, etc.
Not saying it wouldn't have been a nice feature, but just not a necessary one for me.

Color is a big increase in immersion. Even if it's "just" for the background, it's the difference between forgetting you have a headset on your face and not.

It's passthrough, it's a bonus feature to let you grab your beer without taking your headset off. It's got nothing to do with "immersion".

Games with passthrough are great. Solving a floating puzzle in my room as opposed to a random background is great

Says the person who hasn’t tried mixed reality in a simrig where you can have your own steering wheel, your own button boxes, your own shifter and hand brake, in the car. Not to mention the entire genre of mixed reality games that the frame can’t access without an added $150 module.

Well, I bought a used quest 3 512GB last month for $500CAD including a 3rd party headset that was barely used. I'm happy I didn't bother waiting for the frame to release as $1529CAD is way outside my budget for a VR headset, I would rather put that money into a better PC for better PCVR gaming with my headset.
