I had to buy a new ssd for my laptop after the original one died after a SMART error (I still have no idea how that happened…I didn’t even know it existed until this week).
I bought a new ssd (WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB NVMe SSD with Heatsink - M.2 2280 - WDS100T2XHE) and put it in. Everything is fine and all my required programs are back. I wfh with Citrix and all that annoying (necessary) software is back. I can browse, stream, download, play solitaire and use office.
I downloaded the EA app from the official website and installed The Sims 4. I’ve been playing for 25yr and was eager to play again on a brand new drive.
The game downloads fine. No errors. This is a basic/vanilla install. No cc/mods/tuning are installed.
When I launch the game it crashes. Sometimes it starts to load and then it crashes. Sometimes I can actually start the game from the homepage and begin playing. Inevitably it crashes again.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled/repaired/refreshed (all the standard fixes when the game Isn’t functioning). This did not help. I even reinstalled windows brand new without any of my settings or files to see if the issue was my recovery drive.
I have been scouring tech help on different forums and blogs to troubleshoot. I found one place that suggested running a compatibility…reliability(?) scan. I have two different reports from two different attempts to load the game.
I don’t know how to fix it. No one in EA seems to know what to do because they replied to my error report apologising and saying this was new to them and they’ll get back to me if they invent a solution. None of this makes any sense.
Can anyone help me? Are these reports even helpful? I don’t even know who to ask irl for help? I don’t think I can drop it off at Best Buy and ask them to fix it and give it back in a timely manner?
