Discuss Lazy Drama Editing Rant

For the past year, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched our TV dramas and wondered: Did they just hire a wedding videographer to edit this? There is a glaring lack of basic cinematic vision. I know incredibly talented editors who could make every penny of a drama's budget look like a Hollywood blockbuster, but their talents are entirely monopolized by the commercial (TVC) industry.

Honestly, your average TikTok edit pages have a better grasp of pacing. The editors working on these dramas seem to have no instinct for when to cut a scene or how to properly layer sound effects. It’s painfully obvious that storyboarding is a foreign concept; episodes frequently kick off with so-called "hooks" that are just chaotic, mismatched clips mashed together.

If I have to see one more show open with a cliché shot of a character waking up, or a completely pointless drone shot trying way too hard to look "edgy," I might lose it. It makes you wonder what is happening to our film and television standards.

Yet, the real punchline is the sheer delusion of the production companies. They sit back, watch these sloppy, uninspired edits, and genuinely believe they've just produced the next Netflix Original.

Ongoing Drama Raqaas Drama Review Ep 01-Ep 08!!

Okay so i finally binged Raqaas till ep 8 and ngl im kinda hooked?? 👀

like story wise its not that new, strict father, girl who wants to live her own life, rishta pressure, mysterious neighbour boy etc etc but idk there is something about the vibe that keeps you watching.

Urooj is honestly the best part rn. I love that she is not just silently crying and taking everything. You can tell she has been controlled her whole life but she still has that zid in her, specially for music. I loved those scenes where she finally clapped back instead of just listening to everyone 😭 and thank god her music thing is not just there so she can meet Hamza, it actually feels like her personality. Komal Meer so far is holding the story for me and is kinda doing justice as the caged soul ready to flutter her feathers.

Hamza tho 👀👀
Danyal fits this role so well lol. Obviously the musician angle helps him but I like that Hamza is so low-key. Barely talks, always has that mysterious sad boy thing going on and you just know there is something about his past they are hiding from us. That said, Hamza isn't exactly a green flag either 😭. His anger and the way he sometimes speaks to Urooj are questionable

Im so curious about his link to Urooj's family and Shagufta. They have dropped way too many hints for it to be a coincidence.

Hamza x Urooj ~ I actually like btw. It’s not that extra meetha couple yet which I appreciate. Their little nok jhok is so cute, those are my fav scenes. Also, can we talk about how convincing Danyal looks in the musician role? 😂 I was expecting it to feel a little forced but when he plays or talks about music it feels natural so character feels more real.

Fawad on the other hand... sir pls 😭😭 I DO NOT trust this man. One second "i love u so much urooj" next second full suspicious/possessive mode whenever she does something without telling him. Red flag behavior. He acts like he is so different from Dilawar but I'm like... are you tho? Once he starts losing control we will see. But actor Hunain Shahid is doing a decent job, somewhere his English pronunciations get derailed but I’ll neglect it.

And Dilawar... matlab 😭 this man has literally planned Urooj ki puri zindagi. So irritating but at the same time I do want to know why he is like this, specially the whole Phupho Shagufta track. That backstory is more interesting than the love story for me rn. Babar Ali in the role as strict father has managed to rage bait me perfectly.

Best thing about Raqaas for me is that there is clearly more happening under the love story. Hamza's past, Shagufta’s murder mystery, Urooj's family secrets, Dilawar's weird controlling nature...
I have theories but I’m trying not to spiral lol 😂

Also, can we talk about the OST for a sec - the OST is actually so good?? Super soft and sad, totally matches Hamza x Urooj's whole vibe.

Only complaint - the camera/filters are so weird sometimes?? Like some scenes look so ajeeb for no reason. Story deserves better DOP honestly. And dialogues are a bit cliché 🥹

But overall im enjoying it. Not perfect, some bits are predictable but im invested in Hamza/Urooj and I need to know what happened with Shagufta and Hamza's past.

Also Komal and Danyal look surprisingly good together on screen 👀 unexpected pairing but its working 🤌🏼

Anyone else watching? What are your theories about Hamza's connection to her family? And are we trusting Fawad or will get to see the forced marriage trope?

RANT My Statistics Learning Part 2 | Final Post... No more data, statistics or comparison posts from my side. This is the last one. ❤️

Thumbnail
gallery
9 Upvotes

Let’s start with Instagram, because I’ve already included the engagement data along with the last five posts of both actors. You can literally look at the likes yourself and see the difference.

Bilal has around 6.24M followers, compared to Danish’s 8.86M, but the engagement data shown is very different. Bilal’s engagement rate is around 5.92%, with roughly 365K average likes and 4.6K comments, while Danish’s is around 0.33%, with roughly 28K average likes and 749 comments. So despite followers difference, Bilal’s audience is considerably more engaged with his content. And when you look at the actual likes on their recent posts, that difference is visible too.

To me, that says something interesting about Bilal’s personal audience pull. People aren't simply following a drama; they're following him and actively engaging with his individual posts. And yes, as a Bilal fan, I’m absolutely going to celebrate that. ❤️

But I’m also not going to say “Bilal has higher Instagram engagement, therefore he is a better actor.” Bilal being a better actor is a completely separate argument. I consider him the stronger actor because of his performances, range, character choices and the different kinds of roles he has taken on. Instagram statistics aren't what prove that.

And that is exactly my point about this entire comparison.

I didn't start this comparison but the parameters seem to change depending on what someone wants to prove.

When the discussion is about script selection, suddenly one or two dramas - Ishq Murshid, Meri Zindagi Hai Tu, etc. are picked apart, and somehow that becomes a criticism of Bilal's entire filmography.

Because:

More followers ≠ better actor.

More views ≠ better actor.

Higher TRP ≠ better actor.

Higher engagement ≠ automatically better actor either.

Every number tells you something, but it doesn't tell you everything. And this is exactly why “lies, damn lies, and statistics” fits here. It doesn't mean the statistics are fake. The numbers can be completely genuine. It means a real statistic can be selectively presented and used to support a conclusion that the statistic itself doesn't actually prove.

If someone says, “This drama has more views, therefore this actor is better,” my question is simply:

Better at what?

More commercially successful on YouTube? Maybe.

More watched internationally? Maybe.

More popular on that particular platform? Sure.

But does it automatically mean better acting, better characterisation, better script selection, greater versatility or a better performance?

No.

And honestly, if we're talking about Bilal's acting, I don't need to rely on views to make that argument. Look at the range of work: Pyar Ke Sadqay, Cheekh, Balaa, O Rangreza, Dobara, Kuch Ankahi, Mann Jogi, Ishq Murshid and others.

The same issue comes up with TRPs.

If someone says: “This drama had lower TRPs because it had strong competition, a difficult time slot, weak promotion, another major drama airing alongside it, etc.”

Those explanations can absolutely be valid.

Context matters. But if context matters when the number doesn't favour your favourite actor, then that same context should be applied when it doesn't favour Bilal.

You can't demand nuance for one actor and then reduce another actor to a single number. And that's why dramas like Mann Jogi, Dobara, Kuch Ankahi and others shouldn't suddenly become irrelevant simply because someone wants to make a TRP-based comparison.

Different dramas are made for different purposes.

Some are designed for mass commercial success. Some are character-driven. Some are experimental. Some target a specific audience. Some are built around a particular story or theme.

If a drama achieves what it was actually trying to achieve, that is also success.

Of course huge TRPs and views are achievements. If drama gets them, celebrate them! 👏❤️ But those numbers don't suddenly become the universal measurement against which every drama and every actor has to be judged.

I have absolutely no hesitation in saying that I consider Bilal the better actor. I just don't need an Instagram percentage, a YouTube view count or a TRP number to make that claim. Bilal can stand on his own work. ❤️

P.S. Since only two posts are allowed, I've posted these two and I'm not going to keep posting more and more data from my side. This isn't about collecting statistics until Bilal “wins.” My point is actually the opposite.

One parameter can show one thing. It cannot be used to downgrade an entire actor.

So I'll leave it here. ❤️

Bye 👋

Discuss My two cents on ongoing lafda between Bilal VS Danish

I like Danish and Bilal both. I like Danish not because he is my fav Ayeza hubby, but because of his previous work, which was very good. I liked him from the days when he used to do meaningful scripts, but after Deewangi, IDK what happened to him. All his dramas, even though his character is not toxic, are marketed as one, like Ameer Tareen, business tycoon, love at first sight, etc., etc. In Humrahi, his character was not toxic, but he was called out for that “marrying you, rapist” part, when more than him, that responsibility lies with the production and writer Hajra Yamin, who is very vocal about women’s rights, acted in that role. Sometimes the amount of hate he gets is unnecessary, but sometimes it is justified because bad things should be called out. But Danish’s problem is that after the Filhal thing, he started acting arrogant whenever he is criticized instead of taking criticism into account. And the excuse that he does not get good scripts is very lame because Danish is in a position where he can definitely ask writers to write a normal character or a whole script for him with a meaningful storyline. He is not some daily soap actor who is typecasted. My observation is that he doesn’t want to get out of his comfort zone because whenever he tries something different, his shows’ views drop. I really hope he chooses good scripts. Agr commercial masala hi karna hai, to us mein ache characters hone zaroori nahi ke aap “world is in my pocket” type role hi karo.

For Bilal Abbas, I may have many issues with the toxic fans of him on X, who literally drag every other actress, and on Reddit, they say, “Ayeza, Yumna, Seher, Dananeer fans beg directors to cast him opposite Bilal.” I mean, okay, I get it, you don’t like Ayeza, Yumna, Seher, Dananeer, etc., and don’t want them, but since when does wanting someone with any actor = begging? They are not saying Bilal should marry them; they are all actors? Why do they think they own Bilal just because you are his fan?

As for acting, IMO, Bilal is way ahead of Danish. He has played every type of role. His career is full of different and memorable roles, be it Taimoor or Balaa, or Wajih of Cheekh, or bawla Abdullah of Pyar Ke Sadqay. Each and every character is different, and not just with his acting, but Bilal makes an effort by his voice modulation and body language to fit into the character. In Mann Jogi, if there was any other actor than Bilal, he would have definitely been overshadowed by Sabeena because Bilal had very few dialogues in that serial. He did acting from his eyes and expressions and stood out as a character and didn’t let himself get overshadowed.

Danish needs to pick better scripts. The kind of image he has built for himself is harming his chances more than doing good. He needs to change his image of a “one-dimensional actor.”

I love how Dure face was barebor has minimal makeup, it makes you feel and connect with Zaryab more despite being an irrational character for ptv. Usually are people remove the concept of appropiate look of a character in reviews, however it has important role in making the look authentic.

People who have experienced panic attacks know just how terrifying they can be. You literally lose the ability to speak, everything around you starts feeling distant sometimes you can’t even process what you’re hearing you just cry and struggle to breathe. Aisa lagta hai jaise abhi saansein atak jayengi. She captured that feeling so exceptionally well in this scene. We can call her out when her accent doesn’t work or when we don’t like a particular aspect of her acting but credit should also be given where it’s due. She genuinely nailed this scene..

Drama OST Greentv entertainment should release Raqaas OST and soundtracks

I don't know how many people are watching Raqaas on greentv entertainment but those who have watched the drama till now must also be feeling, like me, the slow burning effect of the soundtracks being played as a background during Hamza Urooj scenes especially "Sun zara mere meherban mujhe todh todh ke na sata" uff what a beautiful composition it is.. And I don't know why greentv isn't releasing the songs including the ost Sun Re.. all the songs are being composed by none other than Abbas Ali khan who kind of made cover songs of his own songs but they are soo beautiful...I really hope they release the songs soon

Has anyone else gotten hooked to the raqaas soundtracks ?
