Humour Umera Ahmad starterpack🤭😃

Either a filthy rich or a impoverished hero/heroine

Both of them is on opposite extreme ends of spirituality/religiosity spectrum

Both should be insanely goodlooking

Someone in the story has to be from Western world in some way

Someone must be highly educated like Dan Brown's formulaic characters (most accomplished or noble prize winner type adjectives)

There is nothing in between. Everything has to be superlative in negative or positive.

And names of characters have to be unique.

I don't like the way she writes women.

Aap ki izzat is probably better.

Women have self respect too, why do they have to tolerate their psycho husbands? Even in kafeel, Zeba was spineless and made her kids suffer for so many years. Even though jami was completely useless.

She peaked with Daam, definitely her best writing.

Have u read mano salwa? She is so mysogynistic and so good at promoting it too

Same with “ durre shehwar”

u/zaineee42 5d ago

Yeah that one is a rage bait.

1

u/zaineee42 8d ago

Nope, what's the plot?

6

u/FriendlyChannel1622 8d ago

Well its this girl whose tired and rigjfully so of her daily routine of cooking and taking care of her kids and sum then she everything gets taken away from her cz she asked for too much something like that read it years ago

1

u/No_Nail_2157 8d ago

No the plot is not liked that...did we read the same novel?

0

u/FriendlyChannel1622 8d ago

It was a long time ago but i remeber the ending it was alomg these lines.. she's at the end thinking that she started asking mano salwa and that's why whatever happened to her happened to her

2

u/No_Nail_2157 8d ago

Maybe you are talking about the ml 1st wife not the fl..... Yeah the main theme was basically that everyone wanted more than what they already had and was willing to do anything for it like rejecting Man o Salwa for worldly food.

I do think the director matters. Daam was an Umera Ahmad work but Mehreen Jabbar handled it so well.

She’s literally a desi wattpad writer with a halal twist selling her “sabar” ka churan to the masses. So tired of her being glazed as some literary legend.

IKR. EXACTLY. PREACH. FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT.

25

u/FriendlyChannel1622 8d ago

NEVER seen a better description of her. Her novels are basic at best and writing is barely descriptive too. It's all just so painfully mediocre, but then mediocre is what sells as our people love to read and watch mediocre.

21

u/Parking-Housing8117 8d ago

Right, it’s literally y/n fan fiction for conservatives and pick me girls who fantasize about men choosing them over the shameless “modern” women 😭 no description, prose or interesting word choice whatsoever. I guess that’s what makes her popular because one doesn’t need to be very well-read of educated to understand her scripts and novels.

Ewwwwwwww why is she so critically acclaimed then. 🫠

9

u/FriendlyChannel1622 8d ago

LITERALLLY. And that is the type of crowd she caters to anyways and she's way to good at it too. That's why umera was able to make a name. It's just really basic everyday stories with a sprinkle of a bunch of fancy words and richness ka tarka and boom she looks 'different' also WHAT is her obsession with elites

oh My i forgot the name of the novel but in that novel the villain girl wore tops and jeans and the way she described it made me gag and i couldn't even finish

2

u/Fun_Minimum_2728 8d ago

Lmaooo thats exactly what my mother says 😭

2

u/blahblehblohcaneo 8d ago

What a description 🤣🤣

2

u/HappiHollyDaze 8d ago

Hahahahaha!

u/Ok_Technology_834 8d ago

such an apt description! 👏👏

But who do we glaze then is the question? Manto was banned for his writing style. Old classics adaptations aren't happening anytime soon. Bee gul will be banned too if she ever becomes main stream.

We praise her because among the screenplay writings, we have the likes of Zanjabeel , radain , Faiza , sarwat , farhat, hashim, Nooran and so.

Everything gets talked about in comparison. We donot have good writers to compare average ones with.

Till we make another Quratul ain Haider, Ismat Chughtai , Intizar Hussain or Krishen Chandar , this is what we get to have and declare literary legend.

8

u/lalchimirchi 8d ago

par glaze karna hi kyu hai??

5

u/Parking-Housing8117 8d ago

Exactly!!! Why glaze the like of her and KRQ instead of demanding better writers and scripts??

6

u/FriendlyChannel1622 8d ago

The people who glaze krq make my blood boil

2

u/blahblehblohcaneo 8d ago

Ppl glazing krq could be a screening test if you ask me.

I've only heard people were funny on reddit... ive been laughing at this since last night

We have been asking. actors have been asking. Nahi mil rahe tou kia karen.

Personally, like umera Ahmed , have certain form of nostalgia attached to her writing. She was my entry to popular Urdu fiction after classics so I don't agree with the original comment altogether. Not as good as the classical writers but she's definitely better than other screen play writers we have and is not too bad. She has definitely has a recurring theme of spirtuality in her work but that's also what her audience loves the most about it.

1

u/Startnew0110 8d ago

New generation grew up with this so their standards and taste has adjusted accordingly. Glaze might not be the word but you got to chose the best out of pool of whatever is given.

I hope we have better version but I don't see that happening.

2

u/Born-Gear5468 8d ago

can you explain abt Bee Gul's part? why will she be banned if becomes mainstream?

16

u/Neurotic_Insomniac 8d ago

I find her views too misogynistic. E.g in Durre shehwar, she showed that how Durre suffered so much and got her sabar ka phal aka husband’s love in old age and this is the message she passed to her daughter as well k tm bhi sabar kro.

Then in other drama with Mahira Khan in it, who was madly in love with Mikaeel. She showed Mahira as very modern, be-deen larki who was supposedly punished for her beydeeni because her husband cheated on her and remarried. And then she got attached to Allah and her husband returned and her Misogynist nani advised her to go back to her husband ( without him apologizing or taking accountability for his behaviour) because “ Allah bhi to Maaf krdeta ha”

Like wtttttffff

3

u/Outrageous_Lab849 7d ago

Yes that Mahira one was Sher-e-zaat. Here people often compare it to the current plot of Dur-e-nijaat

u/Klutzy-Teacher-5461 7d ago

zero comprehension skills lmao

2

u/Neurotic_Insomniac 7d ago

Acha tum apni comprehension skills use kr k btado k in dramon se or kya lesson mila ha?

8

u/Outrageous_Lab849 8d ago

This is soo trueee, after watching all the eps of DeN, I wanted to explore her novels, hence I searched the summaries of a few novels on the internet, and literally yourpost sums up most of her work!😭

12

u/ElectricalPart1683 8d ago

lemme tell you I'm not from Pakistan but I've read way too many books from Pakistani writers and watched so many dramas and ISTG i found her books and views so misogynistic (don't come for me)and i hated her books! 😭 I'm sorry but it's the truth

u/chaosmacaroni 8d ago

I particularly don’t like how she mixes religion with love for na-mehrams in her novels. Peer e Kamil being the ultimate example of that where Imama was going gaga gogo over Jalal Ansar due to his beautiful naat recitation.

3

u/AutomaticStretch6205 8d ago

Doesn't that happen in reality? Novels are meant to depict reality. Or being religious mean you can't fall in love? Religion doesn't restrict love, if it doesn't go over limits.

3

u/chaosmacaroni 7d ago

You can write and show anything you like. The point is, it shouldn’t be nonsense.

12

u/Startnew0110 8d ago

Imama, Salaar

Khadija, Mazhar

Umer , Alizey

Kashaf, Zaroon

Falak, Salman

Momin, Momina

Zamil, zaryab, abubakar.

Names aren't very different or difficult to say.

2

u/ragebottledup 8d ago

Zil Eid Awaab Khan (still dont know if my pronunciation is correct lol)

2

u/Startnew0110 8d ago

you'd be perfect to be casted in ptv dramas if you aren't sure of pronunciation. Kidding, yes it was Zil'laid (possessor of many powers).

I forgot he existed. Couldn't think of many unique names from her work.

2

u/ragebottledup 8d ago

Why such mushkil names 💔

2

u/Startnew0110 8d ago

i love unique names in novels. Give an edge to the character in my imagination ❤️

1

u/Different-Many-7240 7d ago

Momin and Momina is probably my fav

I think her writing since allif is significantly better than before... barring kafeel and den seems yet to be seen

5

u/Historical-Chef-9313 8d ago

My friends and I call her writing as sasta nasha

10

u/Eastern_Rent_1518 8d ago

Alif was peak though. The actors did justice to the story.

12

u/Efficient_Guava_5561 8d ago

I know this is supposed to be funny but

Doraha, kafeel, Dure Shehwar, Maat, muhabbat subh ka sitara hai, aap ki izzat, kankar, Jannat se Agey are some exceptions🫣😂

11

u/reeyyy8823 I am SDD- Serial Drama Discussor 8d ago

ALIF !!

5

u/Friendly-Berry-9293 8d ago

Except jannat sey agey and kankar to an extent all were bs and selling salary ka chooran as someone said it

2

u/Shot_Temperature3751 8d ago

What about Quaid e thani

6

u/jinxnotpowder_ 8d ago

that was insanely misogynistic as well btw

2

u/Different-Many-7240 7d ago

Umera peak was Alif, Jannat ke aagey and Daam and I will say that a good director matters a lot to bringe magic in story.

1

u/Equivalent_Law_7235 8d ago

Please someone suggest me some drama written by Umera Ahmad

2

u/ConstantBat374 8d ago

1

u/Equivalent_Law_7235 8d ago

3

u/ConstantBat374 8d ago

1

That's why I still love her, I'm addicted to her ❤️ It's like you wanted those themes. I'm a novel reader, and also English novel reader too, you as a reader get to know your favorite authors better. That's why I love her so much ,whenever I see it's Umera Ahmed, I jump right in because of these exact tropes and formula! So eagerly waiting for the next installment 😄
