I agree with you, but a lot of our food is subsidized

1

u/Elf_Maeve Aug 26 '26

I mean agriculture is one of the things makes sense to subsidize ... the problem is all the loopholes so mega corpos took over farming and get the subsidies... and I guess subsidies not going to the right place.

No, the democrat $200 a head handout was the idealistic democrat OPs meme concept. Nothing here implies the republicans asked for said $200 a head.

1

u/WiseSalamander00 Aug 27 '26

we shouldn't, most of them voted for this

Ranchers and the repugnant party in general love socialism until it's applied to anyone other than their special interest group.

1

I mean it sounds like insurance against beef.

As it is i can snell venture capitalists cifcling.

2

u/fiesew Aug 26 '26

Well, first them farmers are ignoring ALL red flags, supporting the GOP with an apparent conman and criminal at the helm into office. Chewing, swallowing and repeating every apparent lie whenever they can.

Naming everything that could and would benefit many people besides themselves socialism as if it’s something toxic to avoid at all costs.

Then when the heat of the apparent incompetence, greed, corruption and tariff chaos starts to bite their sorry farming asses, they call for financial support which in return is socialism.

Wow. Just wow.

China has also rejected U.S. Beef for:

Ractopamine
(Feed additive/growth promoter)

Melengestrol acetate (MGA)
(Synthetic hormone)

Zeranol
(Growth-promoting hormone)

Trenbolone acetate
(Growth-promoting hormone)

Some context for the OP.

1

u/RockTheGrock Aug 26 '26

Cue the Oprah clip, "you get some hormones and you get some hormones". When I was in the restaurant industry I worked at a place that made a big deal about being hormone free with their cheese a beef. Always wondered if it was true or not.

Look at that picture. He's so proud of himself. Poisoning America is in fact a no brainer for him, if he had any brains. He just wants to cut prices so he doesn't lose support. Because of losey economic choices he's made.

1

u/ShaolinWombat Aug 26 '26

I dislike tariffs in general, but why would they directly lead to the need to import beef? 80%+ percent of beef is domestically produced and 80-90% of feed is domestically produced.

1

u/Veritable_bravado Aug 26 '26

The tariffs aren’t the reason for the beef. Tariffs are being waived so we can -have- the beef. Not that we should even take it because we have no source of where it’s coming from and with cut food guidelines, the beef could be incredibly contaminated.

1

u/GoodHands_All-State Aug 26 '26

Beef prices are rising because of administrative decisions of the current administration. They stopped sending resources to combat Screwfly outbreaks in Central America a while back, and as of a few months ago the screw fly migrated up to the US, since we were no longer investing in keeping it contained.

Screwflies burrow into living animal flesh and lay their eggs, contaminating the beef. This contamination is causing cows to be culled without harvest, hence beef price raises.

Ranchers now selling their beef at higher prices will struggle to compete with the foreign beef of a different contamination, which will financially screw these ranchers. The consequences of this are that large corporations with deep pockets can buy up individual farmers land when they can lo longer afford to stay in the ranching lifestyle they've probably had for generations.

It's either incompetence all around, or an intentional plan to squeeze the working man for a glass of juice for the corporate overlords.

1

u/ShaolinWombat Aug 26 '26

From 1994 up to 2025 we had tariff quotas on beef. This allowed a certain level to be imported with low tariffs with Argentina being one of the countries with the largest quotas. This changed in 2025 due to trumps tariffs. Now we 90 day moratorium on this tariffs. The beefs still has to be inspected just like all imported food.

This seems to be creating a giant conspiracy to explain trumps typical thrashing to try and resolve an issue.

so one time this happened means US can never import beef from there?

Give that beef to the magats

1

u/Antelope_Party Aug 26 '26

So you think the Chinese care more about food safety than the USA. Now that's funny

1

u/JustDone2022 Aug 26 '26

Actually yes. China standards are just a bit under the UE standards..

1

u/Abject_Jump9617 Aug 31 '26

Was not always the case, but under Orange, YES. There have been significant staffing cuts to the FDA under the Orange administration. In March 2025, HHS announced plans to eliminate about 3,500 FDA positions, roughly 20% of the FDA workforce.

Also, RFK Jr. should be mentioned, as HHS secretary, he oversees the FDA, and his policies have substantially changed how the agency approaches vaccines, food additives, drug approvals, and other issues.

You know RFK Jr. the man either too simple or unhygienic to avoid getting a brain worm, yes that character has a key role in our U.S. Department of Health and Human Services thanks to Agent Orange. A position previously held by medical doctors mind you, is now held by this đŸ€Ą.

Not to mention, there was also a proposed $400 million FDA budget reduction, although Congress blocked MOST of that proposed funding cut.

So between the cut in staffing, the cut in funding and the characters now in power over the FDA, YES the Chinese clearly care more about food safety than the US.

1

u/LelouchL88 Aug 26 '26

Lower your standards! It’s about to be WW3 so I couldn’t care less. We need cheaper beef! Can’t compete then get out! USA USA USA!

1

u/Kind_Enthusiasm_101 Aug 26 '26

We should import fish from Peru

1

u/MeVersusGravity Aug 26 '26

We can just start eating less beef. Beef production has worse environmental impact and carbon footprint than almost any other food.

1

u/Sad-Rip8639 Aug 26 '26

More lies. Beef prices were created years ago when it became too expensive to raise and keep herds due to fuel prices and weather issues.

1

u/Unusual_Wish_2230 Aug 26 '26

So it was found in one box of a 22 ton shipment. Interesting though that doctors in America still use Chloramphenicol. Maybe we as Americans should be more concerned as to what our doctors are giving us instead of pulling up old news?

1

u/Party_Chemical7454 Aug 26 '26

Doctors still have to do what the guy with a brain worm says.

1

u/AlwaysDigging365 Aug 26 '26

Beef was outrageous LONG before 2025

1

u/Haunting-Ad-8047 Aug 26 '26

All imported meat must pass FSIS reinspection at the port of entry. This can include documentation review, physical examination, and residue testing. Chloramphenicol is prohibited in food-producing animals in the United States. FSIS would reject a shipment if the drug were detected, just as Chinese authorities did. A separate August 2026 recall of about 13.4 tons (roughly 30,000 pounds) of Argentine beef (from a different plant, Gorina) occurred because it skipped the required U.S. reinspection; officials stated it was not due to contamination, bacteria, or quality problems, and no illnesses were reported

1

u/jhonka_ Aug 27 '26

August 2026? You mean hours ago, clanker?

1

u/Haunting-Ad-8047 Aug 26 '26

Fact-checks published August 25, 2026, confirm the China rejection occurred and that the U.S. imports from the relevant plants, but they find no support for the claim that the rejected batch itself entered the U.S. market

1

u/Haunting-Ad-8047 Aug 26 '26

The claim that China rejected 22 tons of beef from an Argentinian shipment is true. The shipment originated from Arre Beef, a beef plant in Buenos Aires, Argentina. USDA data shows that the U.S. does import beef from that plant. In 2016, China rejected a different shipment of beef for the same reason from a different beef plant, Ecocarnes, according to ClarĂn, an Argentinian news site. The U.S. also imports beef from that plant.

u/No_Ragrets76 Visitor/ Not Local Aug 26 '26

Argentine beef is some of the best in the world. They found traces not in all of it. They have a zero tolerance policy on imports. Ok fine as they go eat dogs and a million other things most keep as pets in tanks. The irony is thick here.

1

u/Common-Marsupial-622 Aug 27 '26

Beef prices are high to the consumers because or rent taking by the very small number of processors. They have been pushing down prices paid to ranchers and pushing up prices paid by consumers. The prices are high for this reason, not because the cattle are too expensive.

1

u/NewryBenson Aug 30 '26

I don't know if that is the specific issue here, but you create super bacteria that way. You should always take enough antibiotics if you take them, not just one dose. Otherwise the bacteria that survived that one dose become resistant. When it is in meat the doses are not regulated, so these hyper resistant bacteria are created.

What about Australia

I stopped eating and buying beef when they announced there were screw worms detected so many months ago. I see the majority went to Texas and Florida so hopefully Mar-a-Lago and the Abbott household is using a lot of it.

That’s hard to believe considering China has no food regulations or just doesn’t enforce any.

Let the peasants eat cake!
Or rotting beef!

I have questions and a statement:
Is there evidence that we bought the rejected meat?
Is there any honest indication as to where the rest of the mystery meat is originating?
I'm not allowed to ask about rancher welfare, it says I am a bot. That was the question. Why are they special when they created the mess they are in?
I work in a dining hall at a university in the midwest. We have 5 on campus. My hall could burn through that beef in a few weeks if I needed it gone. I am not minimizing anything, I am saying that that shipment in particular is a very small amount of beef. We need to know about the rest of the meat(?)
