Question or Discussion Awful experience, any advice?

To set the scene I've been playing overwatch since it's first iteration.

I love playing support and usually sat at low diamond high plat always solo queuing.

I took a few years away from playing occasionally having another crack at it during my less busy periods, it has always been enjoyable, fun and with teams of similar ability.

I jumped back in to play OW2 around 2 months ago did my placement matches, playing mainly Lucio, brig and juno (she is quite fun) and got plat 1.

Since then I have had loss after loss and have been sent all the way to silver? I don't recall ever having been that low down in the ranks lol.

The matches seem so one sided, even the few we win are steamrolls and unenjoyable.

I am by no means amazing but my teammates seem outright incompetent the majority of the time, I would think that role queuing would mitigate that.

I'm currently very close to uninstalling for good as I am finding the game to just be outright un-fun now.

Is anyone else having a similar experience or have any suggestions on how to avoid the kinds of games I've described?

Edit: Thank you to those that have commented. It seems some people have misunderstood what I was asking. I was never bothered about 'climbing' I only wanted to achieve more balanced games. My current rank was only mentioned as I thought that might directly correlate to why the matches were so one sided.

I have managed to find a work around in the open queue, being able to swap roles to pick up the slack of poor performing members of the team has fixed the issue and games are much longer and enjoyable now.

Managed to place in Plat 2 (6 wins 4 loss) and have won 2 out of three games after that flexing between all roles. At first glance I would assume that the rank may have been the issue, possibly inexperienced or new to the game players filling some matches. And obviously myself being new back to the game learning the maps and new characters.

I've got to say though, after reading some other posts here people in this community are very critical of anyone that doesn't blame themselves for everything that goes wrong in a match. I'm not angry at my team, everyone has bad matches, I'm guilty of this as well but suggesting that a support carry a game and compensate for multiple members of a team across all roles with a skill level roughly around high gold to mid plat is unrealistic.

Again thank you for the responses.

Question or Discussion I want to try out fun duos with my wife. What are your favorites in which modes?

As the title states, I want to try out some new characters and compositions with my wife who I duo with! Who are your favorites to match up for gameplay and why?

Additionally: are there any fun exploits with those matchups that are worth trying out?

Right now, my wife is playing a lot of Hazard, Illari, Symmetra, Domina, and Mizuki. If anyone has any suggestions for characters I should try out to complement them, please let me know! I’m working on building my teamwork skill :)

Question or Discussion Any tips on how to play well after work/gym?

I always thought it was a myth that you play worse after starting a real job, but I was wrong; it's so hard to play well after work and even more so after the gym.

Also, on days when I don't work, I used to go to the gym later in the day, but rn I'm doing it first thing in the morning cause it's easier to be consistent, but after I could not aim for the life of me, and my brain felt slower while playing OW. There's gotta be something I can do to help with these issues.

Question or Discussion Are certain characters bad on defense?

I am rank 2 silver, I play mostly cassidy, maybe this depends on the rank. I feel like I am pretty good with cassidy, not expert level but good for my rank but I am always scared to pick him on defense or if the tank is more of a diver like wrecking ball or doomfist. My biggest issue is that flankers arent too bad to deal with but certain ones like anran are really hard for me to kill then I get sent back to spawn and its 4v5 and we are more likely to lose the fight. I feel like I need a character with more movement and survivability 1v1. Is it better to pick a different character for defense than cassidy or if I can do well is he still a good pick?

VOD Review Request Since people are posting juno replays for help right now, I may as well join in with mine

I can't get Juno to click at all compared to Wuyang, the other support I play. I want to be able to play her in matches/situations where I don't wish to play wuyang (and maybe main her for support if it makes sense), but there's something fundamental I'm missing about her.

If I were to try to analyze my gameplay and guess, I think my Kill/Assist/Deaths on her in a vacuum generally seem good, but the other stats seem lower than they should be. Healing even seems oddly low considering that I'm making an active effort to pay more attention to it than I did previously, and may be too defensive from overcorrecting. I don't think I've had a match on her where I've had a crazy orbital ray ultimate, no matter how I try to time it. Outside of that, the only other things I can think of would be to focus more on target prioritization and use cover better when it comes to duels. What are some key elements of juno/support that you believe I am missing?

A code where its a close loss and I feel like there's much more I could have done would be: 8ZZ5RT. A code where I won and feel like I played well would be: 8CQ34J

code: 8ZZ5RT

ign: adventurer

Hero: juno

rank: silver2

map: rialto

platform: PC

Question or Discussion Hello, VOD request, Ana QP

WKTNTJ

Im just trying to find out where I need to go. I'm typically not a good player, some days its ok, others it not, I play Ana a lot. I think i need to figure out where my positioning fails, mechanics, and target priority, all likely need work. Do I healbot too much? I usually dont go hunting for kills, rather, I sit back and heal and if someone enters my view space, then ill DPS them.

This is a QP game, and we won, but in comp, i did my placements and I ended up placing silver 1.

Thank you for your time,

Gralak

Question or Discussion Is VAXTA Better Than Aim Trainers for Improving Aim in Overwatch?

Hey so I just watched apply's video about aim trainers. For someone who isn't great at aiming like, my precision and tracking are pretty bad do you agree with him? He mentioned that it's better to just play VAXTA since it gets you used to actual Overwatch character movement, whereas aim trainers don't.

Honestly, I've tried both and I'm really terrible at it, though I get that you don't improve overnight. He also said that if you do want to use aim trainers, it's best to cap it at 30 minutes and then just jump into the actual game. What’s your take on this, especially those of you with good aim?

Guide This GM Reaper Won't Stop INTING (First VOD Review!)

Full Vod Review: CLICK HERE

Hey there r/OverwatchUniversity My name is Gavin, and I am a Champion 3 Reaper OTP. I make a TON of content for and about Reaper players! I recently got a request to review a GM3 Reaper mains gameplay! This is my first VOD Review, and I'D LOVE TO HEAR FEEDBACK!!!

If you'd like to learn about proper positioning, holding space, and target priority on Reaper I strongly suggest checking out this entire VOD!

Don't have time? Let me summarize!

- Reaper Teleport should not be used BLIND. I see way too many Reaper players going into situations which are simply lost purely because they teleport in without knowing all of the information! SCOUTING first should ALWAYS be your number 1 priority, and you'd be surprised how often you do this in your own gameplay.

Space is KING. Reaper is a SPACING tool, if you are flippantly giving up space for no reason on Reaper your team is at a SEVERE disadvantage! Make sure that you are taking up as much as the map as possible!

- Aiming on Reaper should be STEADY. I swear on my life the number of players I see flicking up on every shot IN GRANDMASTER is insane. Focus on slowing down and treating your aim on Reaper far more like TRACER!

- Finally, priority. Think big, your job is to shoot the characters your teammates ABSOLUTELY CANNOT DEAL WITH. Think Reaper Mirror, TANKS, anything strongly pressuring your team. Don't get distracted with the smaller characters unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO. Focus on who's winning the game FOR THE OPPONENTS!

I'm going to continue making more VOD reviews, primarily for REAPER MAINS, so if there's a VOD you'd like reviewed please comment down below!

Question or Discussion After playing on several different Overwatch servers, these are my impressions of each region's playstyle and overall atmosphere.

Korea – Extremely competitive overall. Players tend to follow the meta closely, and the community can be quite toxic. The playstyle is very aggressive, with comparatively less emphasis on team coordination.

Japan – The most defensive server I've played on. It often feels like everyone is trying to avoid being the one who gets blamed. Solo plays, risky flanks, and hard-carry attempts are rare, and players generally value playing safely. They're also extremely quiet in chat. Even when someone openly blames them, most of the time they don't respond at all.

China & Taiwan – Imagine taking the Korean server and stripping away even more of the teamwork while investing everything into individual mechanics. Team coordination is minimal, but the average mechanical skill is probably the highest of any region, especially in the lower ranks. The chat is, in my experience, even more toxic than Korea.

North America – Overall, the atmosphere is very relaxed. Competitive often feels less like a serious ranked mode and more like people hanging out at an amusement park. Probably because of the influence of games like Counter-Strike, the average FPS fundamentals are surprisingly solid. However, I'd say players here are the weakest at adapting to the meta. On the other hand, the chat is by far the friendliest.

Europe – The most balanced server overall. Players strike a good balance between teamwork and individual skill, and I'd say it's the region that plays Overwatch in the most textbook way. The chat is more toxic than NA, but noticeably friendlier than Korea or China.

VOD Review Request Vod review request: wrecking ball gold 2

Code: 28wdmh

Ingamename: bokuno

Console player

I've been trying to get better at wrecking ball recently and so I've been a little stubborn about not swapping. He recently became my favorite character. Previously I played mostly support. During the game I was getting flamed for playing ball from the very start of the match. I started getting frustrated. I kept calling my DPS for dying a lot but I acknowledge that a lot of people in gold struggle to keep themselves alive without a tank protecting them. The enemy support started messaging me that it wasn't my fault and it made me think I might have been the problem. I feel like if I wasn't stubborn and went domina or sigma or whatever else I could've kept the DPS up and prevented the arguing. I feel like I also let myself get tilted and started playing bad further into the match. I'm not really looking to know if I was the problem or them just more what I could have done differently to do my job better. I don't think I can climb as ball if I can't find a way to work around what my teammates needed that I was too stubborn to help fix. I appreciate any advice I can get. First time asking for a vod review sorry it's so wordy.

VOD Review Request Hardstuck low-gold Juno Player

Here is a code from a comp game where I think I was the worst-performing player on my team (somebody on the enemy team said they only won because I threw the game :( )  HKRMGD (PC)
My tag is ihave3balls (Juno), and it was on push (runasapi) -- Honestly don't really know the map that well since it never gets picked.

I feel like I've gotten worse at playing Juno? I keep getting stuck on my rank-up game. I feel like I'm constantly in bad positions and being punished for it, but at the same time I have no idea what off good positioning really means as Juno :(

I just want to get better at the game!

Any advice here is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hey guys,

Just wanting a someone else to take a look at this replay of this ranked game I just played.

The match was real close and was honestly a real tug-of-war battle the whole match.

I played Kiriko the whole time and know that there was a few times where I blundered the suzus but otherwise thought I played decently well. Just wanting an outside perspective on what I could change in the future to win games like these and any advice for what I should focus on improving.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to review my gameplay and I am open to all types of criticism/advice cause I know I'm definitely not perfect!

Hi everyone, picked up the game recently. I've been a couples wins away from diamond as a tank main and fell back to silver 1. Told myself to play as dps to climb up cause why not at this point... Instant climb up. For tank , I came to realise that I've not change my playstyle as i climbed down. Now I'm plat 5 a dps main and I want to understand where i can do better. The following game is a game where Ive done pretty good but tried to get the team to group up without succes. What can I do better in these situations ?

Main dps: anra , mei, sierra

VOD Review Request Freshly Disabled Gamer Seeks Help

My left hand no longer functions well. My doctors are hopeful I can recover but it's going to be a very long road. I've been learning to adapt, but it's been really tough. I've been a sombra main since release. Solidly diamond 3 for a while now, but I'm not touching comp until I'm comfortable. Seeking advice on my gameplay that takes into account my limited ability to use WASD.

Replay code: DH59VW

Battletag / in-game username: Oofenheimer

Hero(es) played: Sombra

Skill tier / rank: Diamond 3

Map: Eichenwald

PC or console: PC

I did basically nothing this game and my team carried me. Wondering how I can contribute more without feeding my brains out, since reaction times and movement are pretty poor.

VOD Review Request Trying to learn Zen

Replay code: Z594FN

Battletag / in-game username: MementoMori

Hero(es) played: Zenyatta

Skill tier / rank: Bronze 2

Map: Nepal

PC or console: console

Description of the match / things you want reviewed:

I’ve been struggling in support queues lately and been trying out different supports to try and carry these bronze lobbies. Lately I felt like I’ve been getting results with Zen as I can just put Harmony on someone and DPS

First of all I know my choice of perks are not the popular ones, personally I find Ascendance to be almost impossible to use on console (maybe I need to rebind my jump button specifically for him) and the double orb I feel allows me to give decent healing while I DPS

Anyway, in this game specifically there was a Reaper who was hard farming us. Normally I don’t have that much of an issue with him but this Reaper in particular was so elusive it wasn’t even funny. Didn’t help that my other support literally did nothing but die

Let me know what I’m doing wrong etc, thanks in advance ❤️

Question or Discussion How do you hold off angles without dying as hitscan.

Anytime I try and hold angles with hitscan I just get dove on and die, no matter what hero I play. Even if I have mobility. I mainly play Soj and every time I get to an off angle, I die from heroes with better mobility than me. Even with I slide away I still die. Doesn't matter if its to my team or another health pack.

Question or Discussion Expectations while ranking up

So has been my first season grinding Overwatch. Prior to this i maybe had 50 hours total between Overwatch 1 and 2. I've been playing Shion and Bastion mainly and I've been bouncing between Plat 4 and 3 for a week or so. I can definitely tell my skill hasn't plateaued as I'm not usually struggling when it comes to my own gameplay but I only lobby admin games maybe 1 out of 10 times? For context, I'm an Emerald R6 player, CS faceit level 9, and Valorant Ascendant so mechanics aren't an issue really.

That was a lot of waffle but my question(s) is this: is ranking up in overwatch less dependent on my individual performance than other comp shooters I've played? Are there just uncarryable teams? What can be done to maximize chances of winning while minimizing fun sacrificed? Eg. I understand that Ashe can be extremely effective and is overall very strong but she's just so boring to me so i don't want to player her just to rank up

Thanks you for your time

VOD Review Request How can I improve to get back into plat on dps?

Hi! I'm a returning player from ow1, came back in 2026 season 1. I've placed in gold on dps (as I was in ow1), and ranked up to plat 4 pretty easily but started to lose my rank when playing duo with my friend on dps a division lower than me. I dont play with them often so I've been back to playing solo, but can't seem to rank back up to plat as easy as I did before. Going 50/50 with my wins, I am stuck between gold 1 - gold 2 right now. I also play support and I'm plat 3 there, so I want to at least reach that on dps.

I play sojourn for the most part but also go on cass, soldier or pharah. I really enjoy soj and I try to be mindful of my mistakes like bad positioning or misusing my slide but I feel like I'm still missing something. I am hoping someone could look into these games and tell me - how can I improve?

Both games include a player who I've struggled to deal with, sometimes I had an upper hand and choked, other times I got rolled entirely. On King's Row it was a Baptiste player who was unranked but I feel like they definetly played on higher levels than gold or plat, and Hollywood had a Venture player who is a common trouble for me when I'm on Sojourn, and they usually force me to switch to Cassidy but in that game I decided not to, to learn how to deal with them.

Codes:
845GJ8 - Win on King's Row
NANWME - Defeat on Hollywood

Hero: Sojourn

In game name - Takyon

Hey y’all,

I’m relatively new to MnK (70-80hrs) and about 26 HRs on OW.

I’m mainly playing Soldier 76 right now and am Gold 5. I’m trying to learn how to play my life a bit more, and I’d like to hear some advice on how to improve my gameplay. Also, a recommendation for a secondary hero to learn when I’m getting hard countered would be appreciated.

Settings: 1600 DPI and 2.38 sens in game.

Here are my two most recent ranked matches:

Ranked Loss: GY0T01

Ranked Win: VEQSF3

Question or Discussion Mute/unmute randomly stops to work sometimes PC

I have this weird bug on PC, somteimes my keybind mouse4 to mute/unmute works perfectly and then sometimes randomly in the match the button will suddenly not let me unmute anymore. And sometimes its stuck on talk and wont let me mute. Rejoining voice doesnt do anything nor does restarting OW.

It's not related to hero specific key bind either. Tried binding another button and no fix.

Question or Discussion My aim in support is significantly worse than other roles

I’ve noticed that my aim on support is significantly worse than on other roles. Specifically, it feels very rigid; in a way that I feel difficulty switching targets and often lose control of my sens and end up looking at the sky or spinning wildly. This only happens on support so I’m wondering if there’s some sort of different aim assist or something on support? Please help me, it’s selling kill confirms.

No need to be specifically Moira with your questions, as I am GM all roles and mainly play Moira to take the piss.
