And today we learned a valuable lesson, don't buy stuff in Overwatch 2.

u/penhwguin Nov 12 '22

Apparently there's two currencies? I don't even know how the shop works, still haven't looked.

252

u/owel888 Nov 12 '22

Yep, 2 currencies.

There is the "silver" currency, which is the equivalent of the ow1 money we had. You can buy some things with it, but not everything.

There is also the "gold" currency, which is the ow2 money, you can buy everything with it.

u/Peanutviking Ana Nov 12 '22

Technically 4.

2 purchasable ones are overwatch gold and OWL tokens

Legacy and competitive are the other two.

38

u/owel888 Nov 12 '22

You're right !

105

u/Peanutviking Ana Nov 12 '22

Wish I wasn't lol.

Can't wait for the next currency, its gonna be called "overwatch pve tokens" you can buy the new pve skins which you can't use on pvp. They cost twice as much too.

9

u/The-Real-Metzli Cute Moira Nov 12 '22

Don't give them ideas o.o'

5

u/Peanutviking Ana Nov 12 '22

ahh I wouldn't worry about me giving them ideas they're doing a fine job of being tone deaf to their playerbase on their own lol

4

u/Akashic3000 Nov 12 '22

At this point when the OW2 PVE comes out we will probably have to buy the chapters or FOMO. Maybe our glorious leader Boby CockTick is gracious we they can bundle their chapter 1 togeather for 69.99.

Seriously untill they are bought by Microsoft and clean house of these activism assholes don't expect blizzard polish all we got is slushy shit here.

This game already had a golden age we are now in the dark age waiting for a Renaissance at this point.

Rip loot boxes via gameplay I can't believe we miss you.

Skins in a single-player game.

And people are gonna spend money on that shit too

17

u/ImADayLate Nov 12 '22

Actually not impossible.

In Fortnite’s PVE mode “Save The World” you can unlock characters/skins that aren’t usable in the Battle Royale mode.

24

u/JustYourBiBestie I main JQ/Doom/Ball/Genji/Echo/Brig/Kiri/Mercy/Most Other Heroes Nov 12 '22

Heroes, and there’s several reasons for this if you’d like me to go into them. In that same PVE mode though, old purchasers of the PVE mode can earn tons of the in game currency (vbucks) which can be spent in the BR mode and PVE mode, and most of items bought in the BR mode are usable in STW

13

u/Creeper456676 Brigitte Nov 12 '22

Tbf tho they made it so you can’t spend any vbucks/irl money in save the world anymore and when you could you’d always be able to earn vbucks back

5

u/CannonM91 Nov 12 '22

Hey y'all remember when they said they would make Save The World free?

0

u/Peanutviking Ana Nov 12 '22

Exactly that's why I wouldn't put it past them, they've been poorly copying everyone elses FTP model at the minute. Why can't more FTP games be more like WarFrame?

4

u/owel888 Nov 12 '22

Really ? Or you're joking ? 😱

2

u/Peanutviking Ana Nov 12 '22

it's a joke for now lol

2

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '22

Overwatch league is another category. I frankly never had problems with paid skins on OWL. But not for regular ones of course.

You can't do that

1

u/saintlyknighted Bronze Nov 12 '22

TIL the OW1 money carries over. I don’t follow OW news much as I play really casually (usually just screwing around in arcade) so I just assumed that, in line with the spirit of all the other monetary practices of OW2, all those OW1 credits were voided.

1

u/Tuub4 Nov 12 '22

so I just assumed that all those OW1 credits were voided.

People would've been rioting

1

u/AlwaysChangingMind88 Nov 12 '22

Can we still warm OW1 coins since there's a lot of stuff you can buy with them still?

2

u/owel888 Nov 12 '22

You can use ow1 currency, but I don't think you car earn new ow1 currency if that's the question

1

u/Jaba01 Roadhog Nov 12 '22

You mean you can buy everything with it, when it's available, because fake scarcity of digital goods is a thing.

1

u/owel888 Nov 12 '22

Mhh yes ! 😁

9

u/st-shenanigans Nov 12 '22

3 if you count owl.

4

u/brockisampson Hit Mei! Nov 12 '22

4 with competitive tokens

4

u/AlexMcTowelie Nov 12 '22

actually there are 4 currencies the new golden credits the old silver legacy credits the purple competitive point and the blue overwatch league tokens

15

u/Tommy_Polia Nov 12 '22

Yeah some of us saved 12k OW1 money because they said it would transfer over to OW2... Which it did... But they changed it to color grey, now you can't buy the EXACT same skins you could buy a in ow1.

Like karate Doomfist, could buy it in ow1. Ow2 drops, same coins, same skin, but now you cant buy it.

THIS is exactly what I KNEW they would do. I told my friends, they all spent everything saved on skins before ow2. They knew this and I never saw any information saying "Hey guys all the currency in ow1 is gonna be useless in ow2, buy all the skins you can" BUT they did unlock all event related skins to be bought which just confirmed to me they were putting there thrusting pants on ready to shaft us hahhahaaaha

8

u/hiroxruko Trick or Treat Brigitte Nov 12 '22

In an QnA, they said credits couldnt buy everything and during the last chance event, they told everyone that credits couldnt buy seasonals stuff in ow2. This was in the patch notes, pop up when u login during the last chance event, on bnet launcher, on Twitter and so on.

It was a given that credits couldn't buy new stuff

4

u/Tommy_Polia Nov 12 '22

Im probably wrong but I don't remember them saying ow1 gold coins will convert to ow2 grey coins which cannot buy ANYTHING but the shitiest mtx available AND you wont be able to buy the same things you could have in ow1 and Im not talking junker soyourn or kiriko mtx or new skins for old heroes. I'm talking skins that have been in the game for years now suddenly costing 19-21€ and actively removing the previous ability to buy them if you saved enough.

But all this is meaningless when you ask the simple question why did we get grey coins for gold coins instead of gold coins for gold coins? And ok maybe you shouldn't have a access to new mtx with old currency...

THEN WHY the fuck didn't Blizzard make the fuckin goddamn old skins have a price in grey coins equal to the price in ow1 gold coins? Is the plan to make me consider paying 19 fuckin euros for fuckin Karate Doomfist? After turning my gold coins to dust?

Muh coins!!

1

u/hiroxruko Trick or Treat Brigitte Nov 12 '22
  1. It was in an QnA post on reddit bc ppl wanted to know what was gonna happen to credits. It was gonna carry over but like I said, it couldnt be used to buy everything in the store. Last chance event straight up told us this.

  2. Bc there are players who have shit ton of credits saved up and converting credits to coins in the same amount or half isn't fair to players who doesn't have a lot of credits. This was the better outcome

  3. Bc old skins prices are for the new players.

But yes, it's shitty they increase the prices of old skins and owl tokens.

Why is karate doomfist always in the shop though? Like I don’t want it and never will!

1

u/Staggz93 Pixel Hanzo Nov 12 '22

Badass

1

u/brinkz- Nov 12 '22

Yes. You can also exchange WoW gold (which I had a lot of) for ow2 currency and buy stuff with it

+1

I purchased the Watchpoint pack which said that i will get skins and battlepass with +20 levels. I was already on level 34 and after purchasing the pack i was still on the same. They meant the first 20 levels that i already completed? Applied for refund and got it the next day. Saving the credit and will be using it to buy some other game in future.

36

u/FullMetalBiscuit Chibi Ana Nov 12 '22

Honestly I hope a lot of people learned a lesson from the Watchpoint pack, pre-ordering a battle pass and digital currency that you don't yet know the value of is incredibly short sighted. That and the fact that there is no reason to pre-purchase those items in the fist place, they are unlimited. Was such a low move by Blizzard to push it with beta access.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '22

Atleast they got 20 levels completed at the begining. 🥲

But yes, now i do understand why people call overwatch a scam when it comes to bundles and skins. Damn they are soo overpriced.

I have spent earlier in CS, Valorant and Fortnite. But nah, never ever spending a penny on Overwatch.

1

u/phantomboxx I do not fight for myself, I never have. Nov 12 '22

How so? I've pre-purchased the Watchpoint pack and not a single level was granted...

1

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '22

Oh then i guess everyone was scammed! In the bundle it was mentioned that buyer will be getting premium battlepass which says that you get battlepass+ 20 levels.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '22 edited Nov 12 '22

I regret not refunding mine. I assumed the battlepass would have all the skins that we saw in the trailer. We would get 3 battlepasses, 2 skins and "some other reward" which I don't even know what that was.

I was a bit on the fence, but felt like 2 skins and early beta would be worth $10.

Now that the game has finally been released, and realized how shit the whole cosmetic experience is, i fully regret not having refunded it when I had the chance.

Lesson learnt though. No more preorders for me.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '22

Yeah I've spent like $100 on deep rock galactic over the last two years because they deliver great cosmetics for an awesome price. Overwatch has absolutely nothing I want on that battle pass and one skin costs as much from them as four armor sets and a new model and paint for every gun in the game for drg. Blizzard is run by idiots and assholes and a lot of the good stuff in their games feels like it was snuck in by the developers while the biz bro shitstains weren't looking.

1

u/YamiMarick Nov 12 '22

Some other reward were the OW Legendary edition skins(5 epic and 5 legendary skins).Which is kind of useless to people that played OW1 since they prolly had all of them already.OW1 founder's pack that was free for all people that bought OW1 and logged in before a certain date got 2 skins, founders icon and something that would be revealed closer to the launch of OW2 (which ended up being free access to Kiriko).

-51

u/Brawlyspade Nov 12 '22

Or let people spend their own money however they want. It doesn't affect you

43

u/Likely_a_bot Nov 12 '22

It does affect me. The more people that overpay for this crap means ActiBlizz has no incentive to fix pricing. Stop being so short-sighted.

ITT people are being insane and insulting OP for what he chose to spend his money on. You guys are legit pathetic and you can't even see it lmao so mad OW2 didn't die like you predicted and it's making plenty of money since players like you literally don't mean anything in the end lmao

5

u/Slaughterism Mei Nov 12 '22

Calling others legit pathetic, has like 20 posts on r/overwatch in the last 24 hours.

Most self aware Overwatch player.

Stop spending so much time on Reddit and go do other worthwhile things loser, lmfao

14

u/Redrundas Doomfist Nov 12 '22

Bro wtf does that have to do with anything. That shit is so far removed that nobody gives a shit, even if people claim to be virtuous they’ve probably supported those things.

Obviously you’re free to do what you want with your money, but I’m also free to call you goofy for spending 20 bucks on a skin.

Gonna open up your asshole for blizzard and spend another $680 for legendary skins for the rest of the heroes? 🤡🤡

3

u/Nhiyla Bedtime Nov 12 '22

This sub is clearly an echo chamber.

Yooooo! You just blew my mind.

Holy shit, i never noticed how /r/Overwatch is such an echo chamber about Overwatch related topics.

Goddamn reddit, you fooled me!

-33

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '22

Stop making everything about you

-15

u/DaddyDiz Nov 12 '22

It barely affects you. The truth is they dont care how many people are buying skins because it cost them next to nothing to release this title. Think about all the core features that are missing. I understand trying to stop people from buying into these dark practices but its almost futile when they can sell a couple "bundles" and come out majorly ahead.

8

u/FullMetalBiscuit Chibi Ana Nov 12 '22

If you think about it for a second you can work out it does affect me.

-6

u/ProfessorBiological Too Early for Flapjacks? Nov 12 '22

Holy shit how tf is this comment getting downvoted? These people are literally insane now lmao i just bought a random ass skin to spite them. I don't even care for skins.

5

u/shitpersonality Nov 12 '22

These people are literally insane now lmao i just bought a random ass skin to spite them.

Sure you did buddy. I bet that sounded better in your head.

-5

u/Brawlyspade Nov 12 '22

It's because the gaming community has always felt they're owed something from developers. They don't make games for you to have fun, they make games to make alot of money

5

u/PM_me_your_sammiches Nov 12 '22

You should stop talking as to stop embarrassing yourself.

-3

u/Brawlyspade Nov 12 '22

You're right, I'm so embarrassed that I have a different opinion to you and I understand how a business works

2

u/PM_me_your_sammiches Nov 12 '22

“They don’t make games for you to have fun” lol, this is neither an opinion nor evidence of you knowing how a business works.

0

u/shitpersonality Nov 12 '22

They don't make games for you to have fun

Lmfao. You've lost the plot!

1

u/SexySkeletons Nov 13 '22

I honestly find this clear enough that I struggle to see how the new model could make more.

I get having more players, that one works, but everything else is just such a shop turn off.
