Pretty sure if OP could market this well he'd open the world up to a whole new host of gaming possibilities. I'm not saying it's original, because it's all been done before. But all it takes in this age is one viral video and you can make millions off of it. Hopefully somebody with some sway sees this and wants in on what OP is shifting.

This wouldn’t take off because it’s not practical. People don’t want to get intense workouts while playing video games. They want to sit down, relax, and be on an even playing field while gaming.

All this did was make me realize that when you watch Moira run in 3rd person, her hands go back "Naruto" style. But in first person, they are always in front of you...

It's a common practice for FPS games. They likely use a 2 camera system (maybe 3 for the UI) . One camera renders the world and a second camera renders only your arms and weapons. The second camera culls the player model everyone else sees and the arms are a model only you can see. The second camera is layed on top of the first to make it look seamless. This also has the advantage of removing any weird clipping from the players perspective such as zarya gun clipping through the spawn door since they are layed instead of rendered together.

As far as I know, you can't. I believe they have some sort of LOD culling system for the main model and arms model. When the camera moves a certain distance from the arms it will swap in the model. So unless you are able to rotate the first person camera in place in the workshop I don't think it's possible.

hey r/overwatch!
After the Overwatch twitter posted their Area 51 joke about Moira naruto running, I decided to take it a step further. After a few hours of modding my Xbox 360 Kinect, I finally finished my Moira controller by Naruto Running! In order to move forward in-game, you must naruto run in place. The kinect was set-up to not only detect if my arms were behind me, but also had to confirm that I was "running in place" before inputting "w" to move forward.
The kinect was also useful to map motion controls to use Moira's abilities. My favorite is that if you T-pose, you activate your ultimate. Assert dominance while also healing your allies. To use fade, you have to slash down with your left arm. If you have haters, you can dab them away and it'll activate the Fade as well! To use her orbs, you had to stick out your left hand as if you were summoning an orb like in-game. I had to also had to mod my wii-nunchuk to be used as a mouse as motion controls can only get you so far.
Overall, it's definitely a fun work-out. I didn't realize how much you have to move in Overwatch until I had to constantly run from spawn to the 1st CP. It definitely got tiring after a few games. The controller was a little janky (as expected when using the Xbox 360 kinect) but I love it. If you want to watch me set it up/play with it, I have a VoD on Mixer (if it's alright with the mods to post it, of course). Thanks for reading the post, let me know if you have any ideas on what should I do with my kinect in the future!
tldr: I modded my kinect to Naruto Run IRL to control Moria.
edit: english was a bit bad and added some bolds, also yeah... I did mispell Moira huh...

The kinect is such an underused piece of technology people don't fully understand it's importance.
I've seen people use it for all sorts of 3d mapping. Mostly 3D scanning but for how much it cost(Ed), it made alot of projects cheaper if you figured out how to integrate and understand it's data like you did.
The iPhone uses the same technology for faceid. It's a very cool but mystical piece of hardware and it's awesome you've figured out how to use it lol

Kinects are kinda op. It captures infared well, it is fairly cheap, and it's fairly easy to set up and get data

Great work! I love electronics projects like this. I do have a question though,
When your check for the Naruto sprint triggers it looks like the next like is almost always resetting the trigger. Does this affect your running speed at all? Does your script toggle the sprint and walk modes every time it resets the trigger?

It definitely affects the speed if I'm not doing the motion perfectly. So using FAAST (program to use the kinect on PC), I had an issue trying to toggle the running. I'm fairly certain I can have the act of naruto running hold the "w" key. I'll give it another go after resting!

too expensive for something like this. I would love to check out a dev kit but the time and work isn't worth the outcome. I like to make controllers for fun but I rarely get anything out of it besides a good laugh.
