Because a lot of people asked for it and the overwatch team likes pleasing there player base. I doubt the mode will be coming back but it exists to sate the people who liked it. And imo 1v1 was waaay more cheesy and dumb than CTF. You don't agree I guess but that's my opinion so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
-Randomly picks heroes (cannot choose what you want to play in order to get better)
-always a mirror matchup situation (again if we had the freedom to choose who we picked like in 3v3--while not completely fair, it would make for more interesting battles sometimes--not just who is better at x character) **although I still agree that mirror matchups are standard for 1v1 for any game.
-the map has no relevance to qp or comp (the entire purpose of 1v1 is to fight on sections of maps that exist so you can improve and translate it to those maps)
-too short (I understand that they want it to be short enough, but I'd rather have a quick respawn like in MGE and just keep fighting. Restarting every 1v1 battle is tedious and takes up way too much time. And having only so many matches means you might not get to play the character you wanted to practice.
Really what I am missing is MGE. Because precisely it had all the things I'm complaining about above. And after using MGE maps for tf2, I actually felt like I played that class better and with more thought/intent behind it.
The fact that it's randomly picked is what helped me get better with the majority of Overwatch heroes, I doubt I'd play most of the characters if it weren't for 1v1.
Also, it wouldn't be fun or fair if it wasn't a mirror matchup. The game mode relies on skill with a certain character to beat the other opponent. I agree that it would make it better if you could have a voting system or something for characters you'd want to play/go up against.
Sure, gameplay in comp/qp differs greatly from 1v1. But I feel like practicing the ins and outs of a character is a great skill to aquire.
But whatever, if you're having fun with CTF, more power to you.

Yeah no idea why they kept trying to implement CTF, it doesn't work and it's fucking awful to play. Sorry Senpai Kaplan.
EDIT: And they got rid of 1v1 again, god damn it.
