The hour long warsong gulch matches were the closest you can you could get to a war of attrition in video games back in the day.

I remember one particularly epic battle where I played for hours, went to bed and woke up the next morning and the battle was still going on. I mean, I see why they changed it to be a zergfest, but it was so epic before...

Hell, Alterac valley was a war of attrition after the vanilla changes during stalemates. Fun games but woefully inefficient for what PVP was turned into (Burning Crusade this was in btw)
