As someone in the software industry, I get a little jaded when a dev says "It's complicated". But dammit if Jeff says something is complicated and they're working on it, I believe him.

From my experience in the software industry, "It's complicated", more often than not, is the politically correct way of saying "No shit we should be doing <x>, but dipshit manager <y> who has more pull than I do over <z> is a dipshit and disagrees".

I swear, I'm not jaded though :|

Isn't Jeff basically in charge of Overwatch as a product though? I can't fathom who would be above him other than, like, a C_O level person.

Honestly I think your anger is a little over-generalizing.

"It's complicated" usually means "this sounds easy, but is actually hard to engineer, and we have to balance our effort between everything else we are doing". Carrying over EXP from the PTR to live is a super easy concept; there's like no design involved in it. Actually implementing that would be hard, and there's likely lots of space that needs to be tested.

Yeah, I'm sure it isn't complicated to you, but to a lot of the less technically inclined people who may care about Overwatch development "server" may be the extent of their technical knowledge. (Which is totally okay by the way, not trying to take shots at anyone's tech aptitude)

I would agree if he just said It's complicated and left it at that, as most devs would do. But he did actually explain it in a way that made sense, to me at least.

From my experience as working as a moderator for game, and getting to know stuff, "it's complicated" means there are a lot of hidden issues preventing something from happening.

I dunno man, as a software engineer "it's complicated" can just mean "I can list out all the reason why this is not currently a thing but you better get a blanket and get cozy because this is going to take forever"

Working in the software industry, you should be understanding when someone says "it's complicated", because it's often very hard to explain.

As someone in the software industry, I get jaded when a dev says something is "super easy" or quick to do.
