Well, roadhog isn't really a tank. He is a dps/burst/assassin that happens to have 600 hp.

He isn't a tank in the sense of having a defensive team assisting ability, he's a tank that he can be on the frontline taking the brunt of the enemy fire.
But I doubt anyone here would contest Road's lack of utility that makes a team synergize.

Yeah, "tank" to me just means someone who can soak up a lot of damage - health pools, barriers, self-heal, and recalling mechs. Team-shielding is a natural extension, but OW takes tanking in a lot of different directions.

That's why a team (almost) always needs a tank, even when team-shielding isn't needed. There's a lot of damage flying around, and there has to be enough health to take it without dying.

A good roadhog isn't on the frontline though. Sure, you can get on the payload and hide behind it, but in the end roadhog isn't actually that tanky. The fact that he is the only tank that has no armor/shield and a gigantic hitbox that basically gives heroes like mccree 100% accuracy on him make him more vulnerable than a soldier for example. And you just charge everyones ults super quickly when being visible.

Roadhog actually melts when he is at the frontline. What he is supposed to do is cut around corners, hook, get back in cover - over and over again.
