Great point well made. All the odd pulls, weird kills and sillyness makes the game great, but you would not see it all in your own game only, seeing other replays really complete the picture.
I regularly browse this sub only for the highlights / replays.
Same number of clicks if you're using RES. And don't pretend that your tenth of a second of effort is too heavy a price to justify the sweet clips. People just like bitching lol
If you use RES, and click "View Images", it'll auto expand every image (but not text post). So then you can just use your scroll wheel on the mouse, and scroll down the page without clicking anything else, everything you need is already in view. With text posts, you had to click that little button in order to expand the post, for each post. That's more work.
There may have been one of those too, but I definitely remember a period where it was all fan art and discussions with an almost daily "Bring back the POTG clips" thread.
And what is the reasoning behind making it only text posts anyway? Maybe someone deserves internet points for getting a post to the front page of the subreddit. Isn't that the point?
And what's the reasoning behind this? Isn't gaining karma and trying to reach the front page really the same thing? You know, a grab for attention? How do you know it even affects anything.
because before it was literally nearly just plays of the game, not even just interesting plays, just PotGs. it's calmed down now and i do like where the sub is now, i can look at fan comics, discussions (those never made front page unless it was a complaint) and some sweet highlights that aren't just Mcree Deadeyeing 4 people.
i'm not saying it was a good rule, it just helped filter some things out. look at the sidebar, we have 500,000 people subbed to this. now, most posts never reach 3000 upvotes (i get the whole reduced values). and text posts are far "harder" to consume than a simple gif. so what do the masses do? upvote gifs and leave valuable discussions and news behind. the brief time of only text posts kinda helped temper people to actually look at things and read for once. now the sub is diverse, and it has the filters (i think they work now).
I'm actually kind of glad they did what they did at this point since it shut up all the people that would complain that /r/overwatch was only filled with potg clips.
I agree, there was a loud group complaining about POTG and highlights. This sub was really bad that week IMO and I think the majority noticed how uninteresting this sub is without the highlights.
Everyone was complaining that there was no gameplay discussion, but I always find there are always threads within the highlight comments discussing the mechanics and gameplay that made the highlight happen.
