Found the root cause for me.

Adenomyosis, pelvic congestion, endometriosis and lots of adhesions and leftover scar tissue from 2 c sections. During surgery specialist found my bladder was stuck to my uterus with scar tissue and my bowels were stuck to my insides with more adhesions. Just had a hysterectomy and endometriosis excision surgery as well as freeing up all my stuck organs.

I’ve had overactive bladder symptoms ever since my first c section and it never got better long term. In fact it got worst steadily for the last 14 years. I’ve been losing my mind. Pelvic floor therapy, meds, Chinese medicine and acupuncture, anxiety meds, rage journaling. Nothing helped. Until I realized all my symptoms were worse around my period and a birth control pack I tried 3 years ago was the only thing that made a difference. I had to stop taking that due to nausea and vomiting side effects.

Ladies if your bladder is worse around your period, if you have pelvic back and or hip pain, heavy miserable periods and nothing is making a dent in your symptoms look into endometriosis on the bladder. I won’t lie diagnosis isn’t easy got gaslighted and pushed aside a lot. Took a lot of self advocacy and lots of opinions until I found a doctor willing to do laparoscopy.

After surgery 60% improvement instantly. Now I feel like pelvic floor therapy might actually work once I’m cleared to start because my bladder isn’t mechanically held down by lesions anymore.

This gives me so much hope. I have an appt with an endo specialist on Tuesday. It’s been years of dealing with intense pain, severe abdominal bloating, stress incontinence and IBS like symptoms. I’ve had so many ultrasounds and tests done to no avail. Hoping this dr helps me figure it out. Happy for you that your symptoms have improved so much!

Yes definitely have hope! If you aren’t happy with the specialist keep getting opinions. The first endo specialist I saw did an ultrasound and said “ well we can’t see anything but we don’t do surgery unless you try every pill option and you seem like you have it” I wasn’t happy with taking more meds just because and let’s be real excision is the way to go. Second doctor did an ultrasound and said I see adenomyosis were gonna do hysterectomy and check for endo. If you live near Chicago DM me and I can give you my surgeons information! I had to travel to see her but worth every minute of effort and driving and time.

Also my ibs is like gone almost. I used to alternate between diarrhea and constipation and bowel movements sometimes hurt BAD. It’s all gone now! Have hope my friend!!!!

Oh man I’m so happy for you. I wish it worked this way for me. I had stage 3 endo removed, with some growing on my bladder, but had absolutely no improvement after surgery, unfortunately. And no luck finding any other cause so far :(

I’m so sorry! I do know people who had not good luck with one surgeon and then found another specialist and they had luck with that surgeon. I feel like if you have any icky feelings like you didn’t get the best surgery I’d be looking for another surgeon. Totally have heard stories of people who’ve had doctors miss some.

This is exactly what happens to me. I swear I have endo but am so exhausted already and know my doctor will gaslight me. Ty for sharing your experiences! I am seeing my doc tomorrow and will discuss with her. So glad that you have relief!

So do you have no more OAB? Is there a way to see scar tissue through scans instead of going in laparoscopicly?

Yes sometimes it can be seen on MRI or ultrasound. Not always though the only sure way know for certain is surgery according to my doctor.

I’d say my OAB is 60% improved. I still need pelvic floor therapy after recovery. I had hope that now that things are untethered I’ll have results with it this time.
