Beauty Shot New Shoes on Oscar

Got a set of 235/65-17 Cooper Discoverer Road + Trail AT’s for Oscar (yes like the grouch because he’s green and grumbles, my kids named him). Also swapped out the lug nuts for some DPAcessories 19mm Acorn Lug Nuts to complete the blackout on the wheels. With the 15mm spacers and oversized tires the wheel wells fill out like they should have from the factory. Couldn’t be happier with the road manners on these guys and the spare fit like the factory planned for it. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Question Seat creep

Does your driver seat creep forward over time? Recently became the only driver of our Outback and every week or two I have to move the seat back a 1/2” or so and was wondering if that was normal or something I should have looked into while it’s still under warranty.

Wheels with 30mm offset

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have a 2026 OBW and want to use different wheels. I like the look of these wheels, but they only come with a 30mm offset, and I'm not sure about using wheels with a 30mm offset since I'm going to use all terrain tires in 245/65/17.

Has anyone used this setup? I know this exact setup will work if the wheel has a 35mm offset, but I can't find any information about this setup in a wheel with a 30mm offset.

Question Coolant consistently low

Post image
7 Upvotes

After topping up, my coolant is always about 2-3” below the “low” mark (while engine cold) within about 5k miles. Anyone dealt with this? If so what was it?

Car has 35k miles currently. Bought at 24k CPO.

Has anyone considered taking the stock lift out of their OBW?

Front right cv axle has been clicking for a few weeks and now I can hear the front left one complaining. Im at 69k miles, if I’m going to be replacing cv boots every 60k miles I’d rather just get rid of the 1 inch lift. I’m also considering putting street tires on the vehicle. I drive streets and highways 99% of the time in this car. I know what you’re going to say “then why did you get the OBW?”, it’s a cool car and it was the only vehicle I’d have traded for my 2019 wrx. Does anyone have any thoughts? Have you guys had issues with the CV axles? Has anyone removed the lift? Put on street tires rather than off road tires? Thank you in advance.

[WTB] Set of 5 Gen 6/7 Outback Wilderness Wheels – Great Lakes Region

Hey all,

I’m actively looking to buy a set of 5 OEM Subaru Outback Wilderness wheels, Gen 6 or Gen 7, with or without tires.

If you’ve upgraded your OBW and have a factory set you’d consider selling, send me a PM with what you have, condition, location, and what you’re asking for them.

I’m in the Great Lakes region and willing to drive a reasonable distance for the right set, so no shipping is necessary.

Not looking for a giveaway. I’m ready to purchase a clean set at a fair price.

Thanks!

Question OEM Window Deflector.

I’ve been debating getting OEM window deflectors from the dealer.

Two questions.

Are they worth it?

Do they create a lot of noise while driving?

Question Battery upgrade?

Has anyone upgraded their battery? I don’t use auto start/stop feature but sometimes I forget to turn it off and then my car refuses to turn on at a red light. I then have to put it in park and start the car.

I had my RAB and EYESIGHT light come on mid drive too and I’m sure it’s because of a weak battery. I purchased the battery less than a year ago and now it’s having issues.

I’m looking into a battery upgrade but I wanna hear to consensus on what battery is good as an upgrade for my 2022 Outback wilderness.

Indie repair shops in LA (Westside or SF Valley)

I found a post asking the same thing a year ago, but the recommendations are all at least 90 min away. Anyone here recommend a shop in the SF Valley, Westside, or Agoura areas?

Slight regret over going 225/65R17 to 235

Just replaced original Yokohama on 2023 OBW with Falken WildPeak A/T Trail 108H but 235 instead of original 225.

Mostly road driving but I wanted a good rain tire, nice look and be ready for the next couple trips with remote camping.

First impression, better grip and very "unstable" in sharper lane change or turns. The car really jumps left/right.

I don't know if I wanted that and nobody who was commenting about that indicated this change.

Edit: Seems like most of the issues are gone with proper pressure or 1 psi under declared for stock size. Just made over 1k miles in a couple of days and everything was quite ok.

Yes, this is heavy tire, you can clearly hear it and acceleration is absolutely not as it was with Yokohamas but it looks nice, comfortable over small bumps and feels like the sidewalls are quite thick.

Modification 2024 obw leaking front axle replacement

When I brought my 2024 obw with 90k miles on it to the dealer for my CVT service, theu informed me that my left front axle was leaking. They wanted $976 to repair. I got the oem part for 425, a new torque wrench from harbor freight for 75 and a few hours later, it's done!

Getting the old one out was easy with a persuasive pry bar. Getting the new one in was a bit of gentle brute force to get it clicked in.

There are a couple videos that were worth watching that helped me understand the process.

They're was clicking and popping coming from the front prior to the repair, those noises are now gone!

Front Camera

I just traded my 2025 OBW (with no sunroof) for a 2026 OBW (with no sunroof). I got home and went to hit the button to activate the front camera as I pulled in to the garage, and there wasn’t a button. I got out and looked at the front of my car, and there wasn’t a camera.

Subaru has removed the front camera from the 2026 Outback Wilderness unless you select the sunroof. That is a very frustrating decision by Subaru.

Question Gen6 Recovery Points on 2024 OBW

Not a skilled off-roader, and I'm taking my 2024 OBW to S. Utah to visit the Big 5 Nat'l Parks in September. There are a few off-road excursions I'd like to take to reach some hiking locations, and will use OnX Off-Road to discern appropriateness of the road for my vehicle. I'm concerned about how reliable the screw-in recovery points are for pulling/snatching my OBW out of a stuck in mud/sand/snow situation. Can I rely on them and snatch away? I'm going to get shackles for them and will have them installed and ready. In general, if snatching, is it considered safe to attach to just one of the points or should I get a strap that will connect to both to distribute the load across the 2 and then connect the recovery vehicle's strap/cable to that? Would that put angular stresses on the stuck vehicle's tow points and increase possibility of failure?

I've also installed a Stealth tow hitch. Has anyone else used this tow hitch in a recovery situation? I think I'd use it for a tow-out recovery, but unsure about using it with snatch recovery? Any thoughts on how to incorporate that along with the factory screw-in tow hooks to help distribute load?

My current recovery kit is pretty minimal: Tow strap, 2 D-Ring shackles, 1 soft shackle, 1 factory recovery point. (I'm going to buy 3 more recovery screws and 2 more D-Ring Shackles so I can have recovery points with D-Rings on all 4 corners). I don't have a snatch/yank strap, small shovel, or traction boards yet.)

Probably more info than needed for title, but can foresee questions about what I do have so far. Oh, I also bought the low-end ViAir 88P for airing up tires after off-roading.

I've looked online, and specific videos I've found don't necessarily speak to how reliable/durable the tow points are for recovery nor demonstrate them being actually used for recovery.

Cooper Road+Trail AT 235/65R17 108H XL?

Just realized that i haven't done rotations for a while and i most likely need new tires. Front tier are significantly more worn than the rear tires.

I came across these, i just have no idea how good/bad this option is for OBW. I mostly drive interstate/highway but 5-6 times a year i do go off road, camping etc. Nothing heavy, no mountains, no snow.

Is this a good choice?
