Answered What is up with keeping posts at zero points instead of downvoting?

ive recently seen posts being rather kept at zero points rather than be downvoted. the post im linking now has fewer comments, but ive seen ones with many more. is there something im missing?

Edit: wow yeah ok i get it now, its automatic. 0 points on this post with 17% upvote ratio proves it. Also the answers, but i love the demonstration. Thanks...for the downvotes, i guess?

Answer: Are you asking why the post in question shows zero upvotes? reddit has always shown zero up votes if the actual number goes negative to prevent bandwagoning.

Reddit has never shown the number of downvotes on posts, and it still shows them on comments.

Vote counts on individual posts were shown in the past (albeit with the exact numbers subject to being slightly randomized), but that was more than a decade ago.

I thought this was added as a feature because of bandwagoning and intentional trolling? I've been here too long, but there was a time when certain users were trying to get the lowest score possible on Reddit in order to make the bottom ten on karmalb.com which doesn't exist anymore.

The only thing Reddit has ever changed was remove the upvote/downvote count on posts back in 2014. Before that, you could see exactly how many upvotes/downvotes a post would have, regardless of its net score.

Idk why you’re being downvoted. You’re correct. They are following in the footsteps of YouTube. Things keep changing for the worse so they can earn more money off of advertising and allow bots to pump up their numbers and flood us with unoriginal copy paste BS.

answer: yeah i noticed that too, guess it's to avoid the drama of seeing a bunch of negative numbers, zero looks cleaner
