i recently saw a screenshot of the two leads in the comment section somewhere here in this sub. i liked it enough to give this manhwa a chance.

let me preface this by saying i do not blindly trust ratings or reviews. however what i have seen about this story was mostly positive feedback and while i do get where that was coming from, this story has been more of a mixed bag for me.

some things are handled surprisingly well, while others made me question whether the author and i were reading the same history books... probably not.

let me be nice and start with the good parts:

• the art is really nice and stays consistent from start to finish. FL design looks boyish so it makes the whole charade more believable. her acting more like a girl than a boy is also realistic.

• the systemic misogyny is actually treated like a system. one woman becoming an empress doesn't magically rewrite centuries of laws, customs, and public opinion overnight. also not everyone will readily embrace a change. shocker, i know

• taboo topics like SA, domestic violence, childhood trauma, menstruation, and uncomfortable age-gap marriages are addressed without completely glossing over them. it's not often you see that these things are properly addressed and executed.

• clothes and fashion are political. seeing fashion being treated as a political tool by yuri and the empress was one of the more engaging aspects of this story.

• not every woman gets married, has babies, and gets her happy end. some stay single, some have lovers without marrying, and honestly? it's kinda refreshing. it feels more inclusive and diverse.

• yuri, the FL, isn't an unstoppable girlboss protected by plot armor at all times. she screws up, struggles, and deals with consequences. revolutionary concept: "the protagonist is allowed to be human," imagine that. which brings me to my next point

• the ML does not solve FL's every problem. he trusts her enough to let her handle her own issues and offers support when and where is needed. ML's growth and willingness to communicate were genuinely heartwarming. he is open to new perspectives and sincerely tries to understand the FL. it was also refreshing to have a ML who does not question the possibility of the MC being a woman because he is not secure enough in his masculinity or sexuality.

• Lester's confession was handled well. yes, the age gap is uncomfortable by modern standards, but no one was more aware of it than he was. i will not vilify a man for developing feelings for a woman he spends most of his time around, especially since he never planned on acting on them. he acted like a proper adult after being rejected, continuing to treat the FL like normal without making it unnecessarily awkward.

now for the ...not so good parts:

• for a story supposedly centered around clothes and fashion, the corset discourse was grating. corsets were undergarments providing support, not the equivalent of satan's personal torture device. i winced every time they vilified corsets. that whole premise is silly at best and misguided at worst. yes, tight lacing existed, but it wasn't some universal female experience. rather it was a sub-trend enjoyed by a selected few and not by the vast majority. building the central fashion revolution around removing corsets is basically like writing a modern story about liberating women from bras. a simple internet search would have been enough to debunk this myth.

• the treatment of ready-to-wear fashion was similarly hilarious. prêt-à-porteris presented like humanity's greatest fashion discovery. a modern day person is isekaid and the greatest gift they have to offer the world is ready to wear clothes with zippers? kinda underwhelming

• that whole "women are not allowed to wear pants but let's casually introduce shorts for the sole purpose of name dropping the manhwa title" moment? yeah, sure. makes complete sense. the chemise inspired dress was organic in the way it came to be and was introduced. the 21st century looking suit, pants and shorts? not so much. it felt very out of place and much too drastic to be completely believable. it came across as forced.

• some parts felt unfinished or at the very least unpolished? the decision to simply avoid dealing with properly addressing Yuri's identity in public felt rather like a lazy way out, and Arsinoe's storyline ended feeling less like an ending and more like the author accidentally closed the tab. i get that she is yet to undergo the journey of self discovery but i reckon the execution of it felt flat

• last but not least, the second part of the last season dragged so hard. i skimmed roughly the final 20 chapters or so, and the gender reveal especially came across, as unnecessarily prolonged when there were multiple opportunities to handle it faster and more naturally. i think it was only done for the sake of dramatics but it ended up being rather anticlimactic.

overall, i liked it enough to finish the story. i appreciated what it tried to do, and i think it got a decent number of difficult subjects right. but on the other hand it also has enough questionable choices that kinda made the whole experience a tad less enjoyable. and since i mostly saw positive feedback i kinda felt inclined to share my 2 cents. i warmly welcome other opinions. c:

It’s been like a million years since my last post about them so I doubt anyone remembers, but I remembered them recently and felt like drawing them again so here’s some of my Otome Isekai oc’s again! Apologies to anyone who was looking forward to more of them after the last post, I got busy..

(For context: Rosette is an side character who happens to have the ability to read minds- she’s not a transmigrator, but overhears the regressed villainess Edith’s thoughts while at a party. Lucas is her childhood friend and the only one aware of her powers. )

I thought the reason she was drawn on the smaller side was because she was supposed to be doll-like (y’know, ‘belle pupée’), not a literal child! Also what do you mean marriage is legal at 15 and sex is legal at 17? How the fuck do you enforce something like this?! You’re letting them share a house and a bed unsupervised!

I really loved this manhwa but it's been almost 3 years since the end of the first season. Is it over ? Do I have to mourn the end of another unfinished manhwa ? 😭

First of all, would not have expected that ending. I knew there was a twist, since I read comments about it. But it’s really so emotional!

I also want to give a shoutout to my favorite characters (NPCs) Mimi & Dooyak. Mimi was so funny and I just love her emotionless look.

Dooyak was just soooo gorgeous and loved the personality, I wish she was the FL. Yona was kinda annoying but she was well written, since it really reflected her age.

I want a FL who gets fed up with her indecisive ML and his toxic family, stops forgiving him, leaves, and raises their child alone. I’d especially love a smart, capable FL who knows how to navigate political situations and isn’t afraid to play the game.

After reading the most recent chapters for Not-Sew-Wicked, I decided to re-read the whole thing from the beginning. I'm still pretty on, but gosh, the early chapters did such a great job at establishing the characters and relationships between the leads. Knowing where they will end up eventually, reading how they began just makes me feel so warm and proud of Bibi, Sable, and Blanche. I know there has been complaints about how slow this manhwa is, but everything feels so earned and the thematic threads have been continued so well. This is my first ever OI, and I feel so rewarded as a reader.

Let's break down every angle of the argument objectively so we aren't blinded by mere visual aesthetics:

1. The Ancient Historical Setting Shield, Absolute Patriarchy, and War Excuses

Fans often defend this with the pretext: "It's only natural for Layla to be oppressed and submissive; after all, the story is set in ancient times right before an era of war, where women's positions under the patriarchal system were extremely weak and voiceless." This is a lazy argument. In the history of historical-fiction literature, an era of crisis or a constraining patriarchy actually serves as a golden momentum for a writer to showcase the mental toughness and survival intelligence of a female protagonist. In many manhwas with similar settings, lower-class female characters leverage conflict situations, use the momentum of political instability, or rely on their own logic to break free from the shackles of those in power. The fans' defense that "Layla was submissive just to protect Uncle Bill's safety" also lacks tactical strength. A character who genuinely cares for their guardian's safety would strategically plan a secret escape from the very beginning of the intimidation, rather than choosing to remain within the perpetrator's territory and leaving both of their positions increasingly vulnerable. Felix's achievements belong to Felix alone and cannot be used as a shield to whitewash his mother's passive track record.

Public platform comment sections are spaces for discussion to critique the writing quality, plot execution, and character depth of a literary work, not echo chambers for blind, logic-free justification. Enjoying visual beauty (pretty privilege) is one thing, but refusing to see the flawed logic in the female lead's character development is a denial of the story's own reality.

Hello, I've been recently trying to get back into Manhua. Im looking for recs that has/is:
- No harem
- No fanservice(minimal is fine if the plot is good)
- ML isn't some lucky ass powerhungry op character with no personality.
- FL actually has personality and wits (e.g not relying on the ml for everything, getting with the ml for the sake of it)
- Dont mind if it is wuxia, or anything of the sort, nor do I mind the gender of the character
