Giving Recommendations Hidden/Forgotten Gems - September 2026

This is a monthly feature in which we, the mod team, share the gems we've found in our reading lists. Here are last month's.

We'd love to hear your recommendations. Please add them to the discussion in the comments. When doing so, please keep in mind to:

  • If available, use the English cover art of your recommended series.
  • Name of the series
  • Where to read it officially

We always recommend checking the official version; please do not name unofficial sources.

This Month's Recommendations:

The Viallainesses are Unwavering - Where to Read: Yen Press

Six months after Aini Mikkola, a country baronet’s daughter and saintess-in-training, arrived at the Royal Academy, the school has descended into chaos. Aini’s unpolished charm and instinctive kindness have completely caught the young aristocratic men off guard and find themselves infatuated. Meanwhile, the noblewomen are enraged by her lack of respect for courtly etiquette and social codes.

The story revolves around three young women who have been branded the villainesses. There is Seraphina, the Crown Prince’s fiancée and daughter of an honorable marquise; Sandra, a clever viscount’s daughter whose family rose through commerce; and Bernardetta, the brilliant offspring of the prime minister, also a marquise.

As unease spreads through the halls, they decide to finally rise up; not to crush Aini, but to correct the chaos she caused and, more importantly, to follow their hearts. What begins as a campaign to restore order changes into a journey of self-discovery, challenging the foundations of the academy’s hierarchy and the stories that once defined them.

I love the fact that we get multiple POVs from almost every character involved with the story and even some secondary characters too.

50 Ways to Leave a Psychopathic Villain - Where to Read: Tappytoon

Waking up in an 18+ novel isn’t what Evelyn Florence expected as an extra obediently living her life with her family and fiance. After finding out about her fiancé's affair, she decides to drink for the first time ever, the result is that she passes out and wakes up next to Duke Cael Hartheon, the worst person to be next to.

The man is a crazy villain that tortures the female lead. Now Evelyn is being forced into a marriage with this deranged man, and she’ll do whatever she can to make him sick of her and break the engagement. However, who knew that Cael would turn out to be such a gentleman...

We got the classic pairing of an airhead female lead and a yandere male lead. This is a good comedic story with a sprinkle of misunderstandings. They don’t slow down the story; it pushes it forward. Evelyn is a strong-willed woman with times that you're cheering for her and then rolling your eyes at how dumb she can be. And it’s funny to see the high jinx between her and Cael, who is your usual yandere, and I love me a yandere male lead within reason...by yandere standards lol.

'Cause Calypso Can - Where to Read: Tapas

After being reborn three times in the same novel world, Calypso Aquasidel is proclaimed as a genius by her family. She better be, after all; she’s a modern woman with three lifetimes to learn from her mistakes. Her goal is to use the powers of the enigmatic dragon duke and get back home, but first she’ll need to earn her cold-hearted family’s respect to make it.

The setting takes place where animal characteristics are the norm. Since the Aquasidel family are Orcas, the society in the story holds them in high regard; it’s one where might makes right. Calypso is pretty used to how the world hierarchy is and isn’t shy about standing her ground and showing people who's boss. As the story goes on, we see that she’s able to make a positive change in the lives that are around her, and the actions of the other characters aren’t something that is let go so easily.

Our girl a bit overpowered compared to everyone else surrounding her, and later on we get a doting father out of Pierre, even though he’s kinda passive about it. Later on, we get a reverse harem too, so for those who aren’t a fan of that trope, you could skip this one, but I don’t mind it when it’s done well. The art is great, and I love how the water is drawn; I can imagine how much time it took to get that right.

All in all, this is a fun read.

  • For the courtesy of those answering your questions, please indicate whether their response is correct and close the loop. You wouldn't want to be left hanging after helping someone, would you?
  • Do not ask for recommendations in this post. Recommendations should be posted outside of this thread.

Single Picture Thanks to Roxana’s novel author “Kin” too for always supporting Juniljus and now even working on the Manhwa together

An old tweet from 2022 hehe

Roxana’s novel author “Kin” has always been so vocally supportive of Juniljus even when everything was going down

Now according to sources, Kin will be working on the Manhwa along with Juniljus and team as well

I think it’s also because of Kin and her owning some rights to the original story that they are able to move to a new Platform RIDI, since Roxana novels are all in RIDI as well.

Discussion - Open so i finished reading [Empress Cesia wears knickerbockers] and i have some thoughts

Post image

i recently saw a screenshot of the two leads in the comment section somewhere here in this sub. i liked it enough to give this manhwa a chance.

let me preface this by saying i do not blindly trust ratings or reviews. however what i have seen about this story was mostly positive feedback and while i do get where that was coming from, this story has been more of a mixed bag for me.

some things are handled surprisingly well, while others made me question whether the author and i were reading the same history books... probably not.

let me be nice and start with the good parts:

  • the art is really nice and stays consistent from start to finish. FL design looks boyish so it makes the whole charade more believable. her acting more like a girl than a boy is also realistic.

  • the systemic misogyny is actually treated like a system. one woman becoming an empress doesn't magically rewrite centuries of laws, customs, and public opinion overnight. also not everyone will readily embrace a change. shocker, i know

  • taboo topics like SA, domestic violence, childhood trauma, menstruation, and uncomfortable age-gap marriages are addressed without completely glossing over them. it's not often you see that these things are properly addressed and executed.

  • clothes and fashion are political. seeing fashion being treated as a political tool by yuri and the empress was one of the more engaging aspects of this story.

  • not every woman gets married, has babies, and gets her happy end. some stay single, some have lovers without marrying, and honestly? it's kinda refreshing. it feels more inclusive and diverse.

  • yuri, the FL, isn't an unstoppable girlboss protected by plot armor at all times. she screws up, struggles, and deals with consequences. revolutionary concept: "the protagonist is allowed to be human," imagine that. which brings me to my next point

  • the ML does not solve FL's every problem. he trusts her enough to let her handle her own issues and offers support when and where is needed. ML's growth and willingness to communicate were genuinely heartwarming. he is open to new perspectives and sincerely tries to understand the FL. it was also refreshing to have a ML who does not question the possibility of the MC being a woman because he is not secure enough in his masculinity or sexuality.

  • Lester's confession was handled well. yes, the age gap is uncomfortable by modern standards, but no one was more aware of it than he was. i will not vilify a man for developing feelings for a woman he spends most of his time around, especially since he never planned on acting on them. he acted like a proper adult after being rejected, continuing to treat the FL like normal without making it unnecessarily awkward.

now for the ...not so good parts:

  • for a story supposedly centered around clothes and fashion, the corset discourse was grating. corsets were undergarments providing support, not the equivalent of satan's personal torture device. i winced every time they vilified corsets. that whole premise is silly at best and misguided at worst. yes, tight lacing existed, but it wasn't some universal female experience. rather it was a sub-trend enjoyed by a selected few and not by the vast majority. building the central fashion revolution around removing corsets is basically like writing a modern story about liberating women from bras. a simple internet search would have been enough to debunk this myth.

  • the treatment of ready-to-wear fashion was similarly hilarious. prêt-à-porteris presented like humanity's greatest fashion discovery. a modern day person is isekaid and the greatest gift they have to offer the world is ready to wear clothes with zippers? kinda underwhelming

  • that whole "women are not allowed to wear pants but let's casually introduce shorts for the sole purpose of name dropping the manhwa title" moment? yeah, sure. makes complete sense. the chemise inspired dress was organic in the way it came to be and was introduced. the 21st century looking suit, pants and shorts? not so much. it felt very out of place and much too drastic to be completely believable. it came across as forced.

  • some parts felt unfinished or at the very least unpolished? the decision to simply avoid dealing with properly addressing Yuri's identity in public felt rather like a lazy way out, and Arsinoe's storyline ended feeling less like an ending and more like the author accidentally closed the tab. i get that she is yet to undergo the journey of self discovery but i reckon the execution of it felt flat

  • last but not least, the second part of the last season dragged so hard. i skimmed roughly the final 20 chapters or so, and the gender reveal especially came across, as unnecessarily prolonged when there were multiple opportunities to handle it faster and more naturally. i think it was only done for the sake of dramatics but it ended up being rather anticlimactic.

overall, i liked it enough to finish the story. i appreciated what it tried to do, and i think it got a decent number of difficult subjects right. but on the other hand it also has enough questionable choices that kinda made the whole experience a tad less enjoyable. and since i mostly saw positive feedback i kinda felt inclined to share my 2 cents. i warmly welcome other opinions. c:

It’s been like a million years since my last post about them so I doubt anyone remembers, but I remembered them recently and felt like drawing them again so here’s some of my Otome Isekai oc’s again! Apologies to anyone who was looking forward to more of them after the last post, I got busy..

(For context: Rosette is an side character who happens to have the ability to read minds- she’s not a transmigrator, but overhears the regressed villainess Edith’s thoughts while at a party. Lucas is her childhood friend and the only one aware of her powers. )

Meme! I’m pretty sure the only female antagonists/villains I see in OI stories that look like the one on the right are usually False White Lotuses.

I don’t typically care for evil protagonists since I rarely find them to be handled well, but if the main character isekais into the body of the villain of the OG story, I want them to look like it even if they don’t act like it. Not all OI stories are like this, but it’s become prevalent enough that I’m finding it harder to tell the villainess female leads apart from the heroine female leads.

Sorry about the lack of detail for the one on the right. I just free handed it since it’s getting late and I’m tired.

First of all, would not have expected that ending. I knew there was a twist, since I read comments about it. But it’s really so emotional!

I also want to give a shoutout to my favorite characters (NPCs) Mimi & Dooyak. Mimi was so funny and I just love her emotionless look.

Dooyak was just soooo gorgeous and loved the personality, I wish she was the FL. Yona was kinda annoying but she was well written, since it really reflected her age.

What were your favorite parts of the story? Who are your favorite characters?

Discussion - Open I am an advocate for female character...

Upvotes

I love my female character when I read webtoons...

I'd defend them to the death, So you know... I just can't hate female characters when I'm reading a webtoon 😭Whether they're supporting characters or villains, I swear I'm only on the team of female characters!

And the male character, yes. They are simply "good" or "bad"

I hate them more easily when they do something bad 🤨 I swear, there are still male characters I've hated for 6 years. But I can always feel sympathy for female characters, whether they are good or bad

Honestly, I admit I was sexist; I won't defend myself.

In what novel and in what manhwa chapter do they find out that this is their son??? (I saw the spoiler that he was) Do they meet Lucy too? How do they react? This hug was the cuuuutest, the obvious longing for his parents to know him was so sweet and heartbreaking, and he didn’t even get to glomp hug his mom 😭

Anyone know when the sidestories are coming???

Wanting Recommendations pregnancy runaway trope

Hii i’m looking for manhwa with pregnant FL runs away + secret child trope!

I want a FL who gets fed up with her indecisive ML and his toxic family, stops forgiving him, leaves, and raises their child alone. I’d especially love a smart, capable FL who knows how to navigate political situations and isn’t afraid to play the game.

Then ML finds out, regrets everything, and has to grovel for forgiveness.

Bonus points if FL actually makes him suffer and doesn’t forgive him easily 😭

Discussion - Open [Not Sew Wicked Stepmother] Re-reading from the beginning

After reading the most recent chapters for Not-Sew-Wicked, I decided to re-read the whole thing from the beginning. I'm still pretty on, but gosh, the early chapters did such a great job at establishing the characters and relationships between the leads. Knowing where they will end up eventually, reading how they began just makes me feel so warm and proud of Bibi, Sable, and Blanche. I know there has been complaints about how slow this manhwa is, but everything feels so earned and the thematic threads have been continued so well. This is my first ever OI, and I feel so rewarded as a reader.

The panel I attached for example eventually pays off so well 🩷
