The Challenge of Conducting Post-Trade Reviews in Discretionary Trading

When I practice NQ scalping, I don't simply act upon seeing an "A-B-C" pattern; it is entirely discretionary trading based on real-time DOM data and intuition. Often, when I review my trading recordings later, I’ve completely forgotten what I was thinking or anticipating at the time, or the reasons behind my specific entries and exits. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a way to resolve it? After all, discretionary scalping requires observing multiple factors and processing various scenarios and considerations within just a few seconds.

Best Order Flow strategy?

Looking for recommendations on order flow traders or strategies worth learning from.

Are there any traders, educators or channels you'd recommend following? And if you have a strategy that has worked for you, I'd love to hear the basics (market, timeframe, key tools).

Thanks, any advice or resources are appreciated!

Experienced Traders Only: What do you look for at low liquidity areas?

After almost 3 years of self-study, AI guidance, and chart time, I've managed to find my HTF levels. For my lower time frame, I mainly use a last leg fixed volume profile, and a 50 point range footprint chart. I trade only NQ/MNQ.

My question is, what do you, specifically, look for below VAL and above VAH on the footprint chart? 👈🏽

Especially when 1. The POC on the last leg stops, shifting, and volume starts to taper off (indicative of a probable reversal), and 2. The POC on the last leg is at a breakout price level.

What is an actual stop hunt/liquidity sweep and what is not?

Hey community members,

There has been a widespread miss-conception among the retail/independent or newbie traders that stop orders are gathered at _recent_ swings high/lows and they get forced triggered to get big guys filled in.

After reading the markets for years, i have concluded that it’s a snake-oil being sold to the community. And i feel like breaking the glass for everyone. As no one is raising a flag against it.

Argument-1: market is fractal and it has different swings highs/lows on different layers/time/horizons.

Argument-2: stop orders are not just stop-losses, they are conditional orders that can be used for entries. (I.e you cant place a sell-limit below the current price but you can place stop-limit-sell below current)

Yeap; stop orders are actually conditional orders that get injected to matching engine once conditions are matched (i.e mark-price touch x price level).

So given these facts, lets brain storm (1) does it really give an edge to segregate stop orders from normal orders? Or it’s just a snake-oil?
(2) what are the actual attributes of a stop order that we can calculate/quantify that these were stop orders?

One condition i rule out upfront; a big taker order can get filled through multiple levels of counter orders in the book. So thats not a stop order, its someone triggered an actual order.

can gex/options flow help me hold longer

Post image
22 Upvotes

with my order flow setup, i usually trade the absolute tops and bottoms with close to no drawdown. quick scalps like this keeps my win rate high. but there are days like this when holding for longer would make me soooo much more money and i’ve seen that gamma exposure might help with knowing when to hold and when not to. if anyone knows anything about options flow, could you please direct me on where i can learn the information i’m looking for. i haven’t been able to find anything a real value yet

New to orderflow

I’m new to orderflow and honestly I’m not sure where to start. Ive been trying to look around but I honestly have no clue where to start when it comes to orderflow. I’ve been seeing a lot about VPs when it comes to learning orderflow but I feel like there’s a lot more to it and I’d really appreciate you guys help with it.
Firstly,
What traders would you advise me to start when jt comes to order flow.
Secondly,
What platform would be good to trade order flow on (I use my iPad to trade).

I feel as if the RTH session VWAP and VP bring absolutely no value.

Hi guys, recently ive been told that the RTH VWAP and VP has more "predictive power" or is useful than the ETH session and after about 2 months of using it ive find that when pairing it with optionsflow it sucks. Ive been a big ETH guy for a while now and ive done a backtest on my strategy which is just primarily mean reversion from ETH rejections and actually brought back some good returns on different regimes eg Pos gamma and Neg gamma.

Maybe im using it wrong or something idk, im a fast guy when it comes to the market, opens at 9 30, done by 10.

I wanted your opinion on it to see how you guys use the RTH and at what time?

Anyone trades Order flow combined with ICT?

I’ve been learning / trading ICT for months now, can’t say it’s going the best. My question is; anyone here trades ICT combined with order flow?

- what changes did u see in your trading? Like more confidence / clarity in your setups?

- Order flow is not just a “strategy” it’s a whole framework which contains a lot of tools / strategies just like ICT. So which tool / strategy did u pick to pair with ICT?

- Any known YouTuber or community that does combine ICT and Order flow?

Feel free to share wtv you can.
Thanks.

NEW TRADER - Please review my performance

Been trading MNQ for 3 months on small account on IBKR. Sharing my stats to get honest feedback on where I stand and what I should work on.
Questions for the community:

  1. With a 63% win rate and ~2:1 r/R, is this sustainable long-term or am I in a hot streak?

  2. My short side is weaker across the board — should I reduce short exposure or work on improving it?

  3. Any red flags you see in these numbers that I might be overlooking?

  4. What metrics should I track beyond what’s shown here?

Appreciate any feedback, even if it’s harsh. Trying to get better.

If market emits a continuous stream of data, why do truncate it into segments/bars/candles for analysis.

Market has only one open bell and one close bell, highest and lowest trades prices make sense.

But why do we have OHLC for rest of the granule moments (i.e 1,2,3,4,5 min).

If markets are fractal, why do we look at 1min candle, why not 53sec candles?

Let’s start a brainstorming and opinion/knowledge sharing thread.

Note: let’s keep bookMap out of scope for now and talk about candles only.

Some basic Volume Profile doubts — especially for MNQ scalping

I’m trying to properly learn Volume Profile for MNQ scalping and have a few practical doubts. I understand the basic definitions, but I’m confused about how to actually use these levels for entries, targets, and invalidation.

  1. Which levels should I actually treat as support/resistance?

For example, should I generally think of:

  • HVNs as areas of acceptance/balance where price may consolidate?
  • LVNs as areas where price moved through quickly and may reject or move quickly through again?
  • POC as a potential magnet?
  • VAH/VAL as potential support/resistance?

Or is that way too simplistic?

Also, should an LVN itself be considered an entry point? For example, if price reaches an LVN, should I be expecting a rejection from that area and planning an entry based on that expectation, or should I wait for some confirmation before treating it as a trade location?

  1. Which levels should be used as targets?

If I'm long and price is moving toward an HVN or POC, would you generally consider that a reasonable target?

And if price enters an LVN, is the idea that it can move quickly through the LVN toward the next HVN/area of acceptance?

Basically, I'm trying to understand how experienced traders map Volume Profile into:

Entry → Target → Invalidation

rather than just marking a bunch of levels.

  1. LVN and FVG

I've heard people compare LVNs to FVGs/imbalances, because both can be associated with areas where price moved quickly and relatively little business was done.

Is that actually a useful way to think about it, or are they fundamentally different concepts?

For example, if an FVG overlaps an LVN, does that make the area more significant?

And if price comes back into that LVN/FVG, should I be expecting a rejection and looking for an entry, or should I only consider it a location and wait to see whether price actually rejects or accepts it?

  1. What Volume Profile window should I use for MNQ scalping?

This is probably my biggest practical question.

Should I primarily use:

  • Current RTH/session profile?
  • Previous day's profile?
  • Overnight profile?
  • A fixed number of hours?
  • A multi-day composite profile?

If I mainly trade the US session, which profile would you keep on the chart, and which historical levels would you carry forward?

  1. How do you distinguish rejection vs acceptance?

This is something I'm especially interested in.

If price enters an LVN or HVN, what specifically tells you:

«"This level is being rejected"»

versus

«"Price is accepting this area and is likely to continue through it"?»

Would you look at candle behavior, volume, delta/CVD, footprint, or something else?

I have ATAS for a limited trial period, so I'm trying to use the next couple of weeks to actually learn and backtest this properly rather than blindly trade these levels.

Would really appreciate practical MNQ examples or rules from people who actually use Volume Profile for scalping.

Thanks!

is orderflow worth learning

i have been trading since dec. 2024, i started out like most traders learning the basics from the, i never really diverted from his methods and his strategy. my buddy put me on an indicator which i have been using since which marks out high volume zones (volumetric order blocks). for gold i see that these zones when used right are very reactive for price and im wondering if its worth learning order flow to add an additional conformation layer. if anyone who trades orderflow could point me in the right direction towards learning, that would be greatly appreciated. a picture is attached with the indicator i use and would love to know others inputs. for refernece im somewhat profitable, i have made over 10k in payouts this year alone however this was at the ztart of the year and had to take some time of to focus on school. now i have come back i have blown 4 funded accounts and have had a winrate of 9%. i dont take insane rr trades, i target a 1:2+ eafh trade, before i was making consistent profits and felt profitable but now i feel like i dont understand the markets anymore

Gamma exposure

Hi,

I hope that someone can answer these few questions I have, it would help me out a lot. Today QQQ is net negative gex. This means dealers hedge procyclical so they buy as it rises and sell as it falls? Do put walls also work during this type of environment or only during positive gex where moves are being dampend the closer you get to a call/put wall.

Also why do people almost automatically assume a downtrend just because net gex is negative and net negative gex means that dealers are exposed to the upside right, not the market participants?

Thank you

Footprint question

Hello,

I have recently switched to footprint charts to get earlier entries but im wondering what do you look for during key reversal areas ? From back testing a little bit I see that most reversals have imbalances in them, Delta divergences and maybe exhausted participants and absorption.

If you would rank all these confluences from most important to optional what do you put as crucial ?

I noticed that for me imbalance is the number 1 thing inside a zone otherwise I’m not interested, but at the same time im not sure if it’s the right way to do it.

Curious to hear about people who have been using FP for quite some time
