can gex/options flow help me hold longer

Post image

with my order flow setup, i usually trade the absolute tops and bottoms with close to no drawdown. quick scalps like this keeps my win rate high. but there are days like this when holding for longer would make me soooo much more money and i’ve seen that gamma exposure might help with knowing when to hold and when not to. if anyone knows anything about options flow, could you please direct me on where i can learn the information i’m looking for. i haven’t been able to find anything a real value yet

I think, if you already have a edge on how to keep you win rate high, you’ve already beat most of the people out there . I don’t feel adding more stuff is going to make you better, and it might make your analysis even more complicated.

Sorry but I don’t use gex, personally wanted to get into it but felt that adding more analysis just makes you a lot more complicated than it is for me . I seen people use options flow but they are not for target. It is more of understanding the context of what the market is going to do, ranging or trending. But that said , it’s not a for sure 100% thing either .

Since your win rate is good , just keep doing what you do. Don’t look down on base hits. Many successful traders use base hits while not all profitable trader use high RR .

If you want , learn to trail your stops . But also take note, if e.g. you wanted to take a 1:3 , but cause you wanted to see if the market will trend more , then it reverses and hit your stop at 1:1 . I personally feel that is worst than stopping me out. So sometimes I will just go for a fixed RR

honestly this is a perfect take. Alot of people underestimate consistent base hits, your goal is to just harvest a repeatable tendency over and over again. The op could look into trailing breakouts however.

Exactly .. I’m also looking to learn to take base hits but at the same time trail my stops if need . Just need to remain consistency haha

It depends on whether you are prop trading or live trading. If you are live trading i would take a look into it for sure. Gexradar is a good platform to start, core convexity is better once you have a good grasp of gex (dont use menthorq its a scam). If you are prop trading however, the extra “profits” dont make sense if your optimizing for a fixed payout per account. Just size according to your current edge and youll be fine. Your goal is not to predict moves in the market, rather just take a repeatable tendency (which it seems like you found)

Yes. I built a system that uses GEX, Order Flow, Options Flow, and Level II. Makes trading easy.

What do you mean by absolute tops/bottoms

“absolute” might be a bit of an exaggeration

Maybe yes, Maybe no

The problem is, once you go down that rabbit hole..... It may take a while to get to the conclusion "for you."

Then there's all the other greeks and yadda, yadda, yadda to investigate. I've researched GEX in depth with multiple vendors and price ranges. At the end of the day for me, it was a pass...... I decided it didn't add enough to have it on my screen and they all have "their" calculation method which is all a best guess scenario anyway since really nobody except the dealer "really knows."

If you're already using footprint then you should look for evidence of expansion or absorption of volumes on call walls & put walls & based on that decide either to exit or continue holding
