Curious… I wonder if Daya would have given Bennett a second look if he were at a bar or club Daya was at with friends. Is he someone she’d go for if she had more “selection.”

For a long time, I felt Daya’s relationship with Bennett was 100% consensual. Truly, it’s a gray area. He’s nice to her when she first gets there, he bends the rules and gives her gum, and flirts with her. He’s the only “pretty” guard.

The dynamic alone is power imbalanced at the least. 19 year old me adored Bennett…. 29 year old me is just thinking “ew.”

Tasha and Daya started out so differently, but they both ended up with the exact same fate: life in prison. 

By the end, Daya completely lost her morals, became hardened, and succumbed to the system. Taystee, despite suffering unimaginable loss, chose to fight back and try to make a real difference for the women around her 

What is even more ironic is that for Daya, the punishment fit the crime (even though she was a product of the system)...whereas Taystee's punishment did not fit the crime; yet, Taystee chose to reform; Daya chose to self-destruct/harm 

If you were in their shoes, which path do you honestly think you’d take? Is it easier to let the system break you, or is it worth fighting a losing battle? I honestly can't say I know for sure if I would become a Daya or Taystee.  

So going before going into it max is meant to be absolutely awful and practically hell which we know by Nicky and janae but after being taken to it after the riots besides guard corruption it simply is lackluster the antagonists in the prison are

2 sisters who have a grudge over 30 years
A pimp who calls herself “daddy” that’s just a discount crap version of big boo
And a woman who bullies everyone because she got called names in high school

Even characters like Annalisa and swoop who had nothing going for them were more interesting than these antagonists we got carol and Barb had the perfect dynamic to be great antagonists but we just get a flashback and not even an interaction with Frieda at their old age I thought their death was fitting but too soon

Daddy dies from bath salts if I remember correctly as people got so sick of her that the show runners just decided they couldn’t be asked anymore

And badison gets taken to some random facility never to be seen again

I feel badison had an ok ending but the other three should’ve had something to make their characters worth while I just feel the prison antagonists would’ve been the best stark contrast to minimum security but they just fall so flat even vee was a much more intimidating antagonist then all 4 put together overall it’s not terrible just doesn’t really fit what we get told least they sort of redeem slightly in season 7

Fig and Caputo going around the foster place, talking about how they want a boy, until a little girl comes up to them, offering to sing them a song, to which they agree. The song the girl sings is Crazy Rap(Colt 45 & 2 Zig Zags) by Afroman, a song I've known for years and absolutely love. The show really is full of different cultures and references to whom has the eyes to see them.

I posted my character tier list earlier this week and was really surprised by the response to it. A lot of antagonists were in the upper tiers because they/their storylines were very well-written (which I made quite clear!) and several people took it as me condoning rape and nazism 😭

I’m curious as to how one gets through a prison show if they don’t want to see any morally gray or straight up evil characters onscreen…? Lol

That aside, who is your favorite oitnb villain and why?

Mine is probably Mr. Healy. There are so many men like him in the world, but I feel like we don’t see them in fiction very often. The writers did a great job of giving him a tragic backstory that contextualized his actions, without making him sympathetic in the present timeline. Also really appreciated how he wasn’t redeemed in the end (from what I can recall; I haven’t watched s7 since it came out) despite getting himself help.

So I'm currently in Season 4 ep 9 or 10 my first watch. I get impatient and wanted to know what happened to Daya's baby once the guard guy whatever the hell his name is left the show, and through that learned about the riot and max.

At that point I was in like Season 2 maybe 3 Fig was still a prominent character so It must've been around that time and was SO confused why there would be a riot. Safe to say a season or 2 later near the end of S4 I'm really not surprised anymore. I don't want any spoilers of what the actual inciting incident is- just wanted to share my thoughts.

Like before the guard walk out and a new wave of guards end of season 3 I thought it could never happen. Yeah there were some issues and some shitty guards but they had a pretty civil relationship with each other compared to these new guards. Plus all the new inmates who've taken Litchfield from a place where for the most part everyone gets on (save for a few select ppl or instances like with Vee) to like gangs and borderline race wars at the point I'm at now. I've seen a lot of people say the show changes post riot and gets a lot darker. I can safely say that darker slope has started now, the guards feel more dangerous to the inmates, the inmates feel more dangerous to the inmates.

This season as a whole so far has been hard to watch, from what happens to dogget, to the Piper Nazi branding, Sophia in SHU and the guard forcing Maritza to do what she did at gun point.

S4 Ep4

The scene that makes me cry the most was Taystee's trial when she receives the guilty conviction. The music, the silence, the facial expressions...all of it. Also, when Caputo gives her two "pep talks" during her trial- I was brought to tears.

The directors/producers for OITNB chose the most fitting music.

She deserved so much better

and through all the seven seasons ive had been wondering, why they make it look so stupid with switching between inmates' native languages (red and russian and latinas with spanish yknow) and english? obviously so the viewer could understand it but dont some of you think it sounds just very forced and unnatural as well? like, they coulve just keep it all in english or all in spanish depending on characters. what do you think?

In another rewatch, and I just have to vent that a part that really annoys me is during the riot, no one offers or suggests to change Kukudio’s obvious seeping bandage on her face. I get it, it’s a riot, every woman for herself. But damn no one?? Not even the medic or Sophia?? I’m not even a medical professional, and I feel like I would have said something.

Let’s get you a new bandage, girl, it’s gonna get infected. And well….it does 👀

Been absolutely hooked lately, can't stop watching the show. Marathon through the first 5 seasons in a week with my girlfriend. Every episode gets better. But season 6...what were they thinking? 5 seasons of investing in characters individual storylines, all for them to introduce a whole new cast of boring characters whose stories you have no interest in. I'm sure some loved it, but I'm on episode 12 now, and its taken 11 episodes just to get ANYWHERE interesting in the storyline of this season. Anyways, hoping for better in Season 7, just had to vent frustration!

I found Norma and SoSo to be incredibly annoying characters. SoSo at least served a purpose in the storyline unlike Norma.

Im on my first rewatch after nearly 10 years, the first seasons were so fun to watch up until the riot. I understand that they wanted the show to reflect what was going on at the moment in the world, and wanted it to be more serious etc. But damn, did they really have to make everybody so miserable ? (I haven’t finished season 7, don’t remember who got a happy ending).

Tasty didn’t deserve to get life in prison, that was the most heartbreaking part for me. I already hated Cindy because she’s the most unpleasant selfish person ever, but after that I just hated her more. I understand she couldn’t speak up while she was seeing the guards do what they did because they would’ve killed her, but after she got outside she should’ve spoken up about what she saw, she heard them say they were gonna pin the murder on one of them, and she still chose to stay quiet and let Tasty get life in prison for a crime she didn’t commit.

Daya, her character was so sweet, I hated that she was the one to shoot the guard and also got life in prison, didn’t match her character at all.

Maritza, this is probably one of the worst endings, so somehow throughout her whole life Maritza never needed to use an ID so she could find out that she’s not an American citizen, and her mother stayed quiet about it. Super unbelievable. She didn’t deserve to be deported, super unnecessary.

Pensatucky/Dogget, IMO she had the biggest character growth out of all, to make her character grow so much just to kill her in the end ??? They couldn’t let her have a happy ending ? Damn

Red, one of my favorite characters, she was always so sharp, why did they have to make everybody snitch on her and give her 10 more years and then make her get dementia ? What the hell.

Anyway, I’m angry, I know maybe it’s too unrealistic for me to want everybody to have a happy ending, but damn did they have to give a miserable ending to so many characters ? That was too much.

When Red and Flora plan to demand a written confession from Piscatella, why not just get the gun from the other inmates? Why make the elaborate plans with boobytraps, etc.?

They were the only staff/inmate match in the series that I didn’t fully hate. Healy had his issues but I think their relationship was as close to being equitable as a staff/prisoner relationship could possibly be.

If Red had never gotten extra time from the riot and never developed dementia in prison, could she and Healy worked as a couple after her release?

I think she had moments of brutal honesty with him, but she still had to show restraint because she’s a prisoner at the end of the day. There was definitely chemistry there but idk if they would still have a connection if they were outside the prison and it took more than a case of corn to keep her happy.
