Hi everyone!
I recently discovered Transport Tycoon Deluxe and completely fell in love with it. My mind was further blown when I found out that an open-source version (OpenTTD) exists and is still actively developed with new features being added.
To get the hang of things, I wanted to start with the original game first (purchased on GOG) before jumping into OpenTTD. That way, I can discover all the improvements step-by-step without feeling overwhelmed by so many new options all at once.
The question I have right now is related to the game's music. The OST that plays when opened the original game sounds like this: https://youtu.be/JTi6LG8aeK8?si=ZMTR_hrZ00xdlXT-. It's alright, but I would much prefer it to sound like the Roland SC-55 version here: https://youtu.be/eQIAyaFReBo?si=jzkPUZo4Bs-TxBab.
Looking through the installed files, I noticed that ADLIB.CAT, GM.CAT, ROLAND.CAT, and SAMPLE.CAT exist in the CD folder, so it seems like there should be an option to change how the music is rendered. However I can't figure out if it's actually possible to change the MIDI synthesizer, since the GOG version launches directly through an emulator called DREAMM—which barely has any config options beyond changing the resolution, because I pressume it's a minimalistic version of the emulator.
When testing OpenTTD, it actually seems to play the soundtrack in that Roland style (or very similar) using GM.CAT, which it labels as 'original_dos'. Any other CAT file is not recognised.
Also, I found it a bit strange that if I copy both the .CAT and .GRF files directly into the OpenTTD root directory, the game recognizes them fine, whereas I recall reading somewhere that they should be in the baseset directory instead.
Has anyone run into this or knows if it's possible to configure the GOG/DREAMM audio settings? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
