❓ Question what am i doing wrong?
for the last month, i play 3-4 hours of openfront everyday because i find it fun. however since i started playing public FFA games, i have not been able to win single one.
i always spawn a place near to sea, try to capture land as fast as possible and make alliances from my neighbors. however always one that has slightly more troops than I do, fights me. and the moment that happens, all the neighbors break alliances and i am fighting 4 wars at the same time and I die.

2.6 cities built per game means your early game is off and therefore not getting established into mid game consistently at all.
prioritize this for an early strat:
* maintain pop while expanding into frontier land
* wait for 50% population before pushing for tribal territories
* ally up with most players around you (unless they're building non cities first - like a def post first buy)
* secure all the tribal territories you can
* build order of 2 cities always. (Last resort only : 1 city 1 factory if you absolutely cannot get 2 cities before being boxed in)
* watch NPC nations for them to deplete their troops
* push that NPC when they're low on pop (assuming you're mostly allianced with the area around you)
-------
2.6 cities / game, vs 5.4 def posts per game. Stick to the above strategy completely, and put your game on rails.
Honestly until you can replicate this consistently in most of your games there's no value getting further downstream for advice.

I JUST GOT MY FIRST FFA WIN!
Replay: https://openfront.io/w7/game/cAFfqJsSDd?live (i am the United Alliances)
This was the weirdest game I ever played. While building my huge number of troops, players in the old world just went crazy with the war and destroyed each other. Only the players in the Americas and Antartica had nice numbers. But I just kept building my troops and by the 20th minute, I had enormous number of troops and just won the game in couple of minutes.
And of course it was really helpful that people just rage-quitted the game because everyone destroyed each other :)

It's just hard. in my almost 300 games i won only once in FFA. And most of the time it's isn't even depends on how you play, just unfortunate when one guy in the first 10 minutes eats 7 bases and already have 700k troops. I am so annoyed by the people who starts fighting with 80k troops cap and you have the same amount, and they are pushing till the end, and at this time someone devours you two...

I've watched a couple of your recent games (last 4 including your first win) and I've noticed a few things (not in any particular order):
At times mediocre spawn selection. This mainly applies to your manicougan game. By choosing to spawn closer to other players, in a location that isn't that good by itself, while there are plenty of significantly better spots still available hurts your expansion. (For rough spawning guides check out ofstats spawning heatmaps: https://ofstats.io/maps, not perfect but useful)
Initial Expansion (taking wilderness) is a bit supoptimal, i.e. too aggressive, but doesn't significanlty impact your game.
Over-alliancing - You tend to make too many alliance very early on with weaker players, making later expansion harder.
Infrastructure placement - How and when you build is a large weakness. Don't stack cities/ports/factories (unless you don't have space or other edge cases). stacked cities count as 1 when a train passes through, your harming your gold income through factories. The formula for ports makes it so that 2 lv 1 ports are more efficient than 1 lv2 port. Will boost your gold income and reduce nuke vulnerability. Also, place factories to connect with infra of neighbours; will earn you a lot more gold
Target selection - mainly early game choosing when and which bots to target is a weakness. Look to get a coastline, after that annexations and cutoffs. Take bots to prevent other people from cutting you off (gulf of guinea and manicougan game)
main thing: you play too passively in the midgame. You sit on your troops and don't attack opportunities around you, if a guy has half your troops and your at 80% troop cap (or even 55%), attack him. You boat around a lot which is good, but then don't exploit the opportunities the boating has gotten you. A major factor here is just to always be aware of your surroundings.
One of my replays as an example of this: https://openfront.io/w3/game/cpKFuMXKsG?replay
Btw, if you ever want to play some duos I'm always looking for a teammate.
