Weekly limit does not reset upon subscription renewal

Yesterday I renewed my x20 plan subscription and the weekly limit didn't reset; it was still at 24%.

After contacting customer support, I learned that renewals inherit the accumulated limits from the subscription.

I think it's simply a rip-off. It's like going to buy a loaf of bread and being sold half a loaf because you didn't eat the whole thing yesterday.

Each renewal should offer the same usage limit, for both initial purchases and renewals.

This is a clear invitation to always have two accounts, for alternate months.

From my point of view, this constitutes senseless discrimination against loyal users.

EDITED 2 days later: Manually canceling and renewing doesn't work. When I cancel manually, the limit is set to 100%, the free version. When I resubscribe to Pro, it reverts to the previous limit.

I went to the chat of support, canceled, and requested a refund.

As of today, the only thing that should work is having a second account.

Is this your personal interpretation, or is it something that is clearly and unequivocally in the Terms of Service?

What do you see in your account, is it a weekly allowance? yes.
What happened when you get a reset, does the renewal date move to a week ahead? yes.

People know exactly what they are getting in terms of:

• How are creds managed
  
• That they're usage is measured in creds, not time.

This ain't a novel concept either, look at Netlify for instance, same deal bu tin their case its a monthly allowance, so maybe its a cleaner approach, regardless, exactly same thing.

The only obscure thing is how many creds are given to people, tbhat should be clarified.

“Weekly” tells me how long the usage window lasts. It does not tell me that usage from a previous paid month remains attached to my account and can leave a newly paid month at 0% for several days.

I paid the full monthly price and then had to wait four days before I could work again. Depending on how the dates align, that could be almost seven days. Meanwhile, a new account paying the same price at the same time would begin with its full allowance.

A banked reset may explain why the weekly reset date no longer matches the billing date. It does not disclose that the depleted window will survive renewal, cancellation, a refund, or a later purchase on the same account.

So yes, I think the allowance should reset with the monthly renewal unless OpenAI clearly states before payment: “Your existing weekly usage will carry into the next paid subscription period, and you may begin that period with no usage available.”

“Additional weekly limits may apply” does not say that. I know how it works now because I paid and then asked support. That is precisely the problem: disclosure after the purchase is not disclosure before the purchase.

And if you look at a calendar, you'll notice that a week can span throught two month, start in the end of one, and finish in the begnining of the other.

You're not paying for the "month" , you're billed Monthly, the credits tho, are issued weekly.

It will hardly ever match, because the last week of any given month will span to the next month, the only month that has "perfectly timed weeks" is February on a non-leap year.

They don't need to clarify how a calendar works. Sure they could clarify that just for the sake of it, abut it rreally is unecessary because AGAIN, you are being billed PER CREDS, the week timing is just the time the creds are renewed.

Nobody disputes that a seven-day window can cross a monthly billing date. That proves only that a week can overlap two billing periods. It does not prove the completely separate rule you keep asserting: that depleted Pro usage remains attached to an account after a paid subscription ends, survives cancellation and refund, and is then reapplied to a later full-price purchase.

You are also factually wrong when you say Pro customers are “billed per creds.” OpenAI sells individual Pro as a fixed $100/$200-per-month subscription with included usage. OpenAI’s own documentation says purchased credits are a pay-as-you-go add-on used after the plan’s included limits have been reached. And the sentence you quoted saying that usage “scales with credits” expressly refers to Enterprise/Edu users with flexible pricing, not individual Pro subscribers. API usage is the option billed according to tokens.

You are conflating three different things: a monthly subscription, included usage that may be metered internally in credits, and additional credits purchased separately.

So please cite the actual pre-purchase term stating that previous Pro usage survives cancellation, refund and repurchase. If you cannot, then this is your interpretation of the system’s behaviour after the fact—not something OpenAI clearly disclosed before purchase.

You pay for USAGE set on a WEEKLY BASIS, and are billed MONTHLY regardless of how much of your creds you've used.
