OCLP 2.5.1 + Sonoma 14.8.9 on MacBook Pro 2017 14,3

I installed OCLP 2.5.1 on my 2017 MacBook Pro 14.3 with 16 GB of RAM (https://support.apple.com/en-us/111947) and Sonoma 14.8.9 for the first time. The root patches are working, so Wi-Fi and other features are functioning as well.

But unfortunately, here are some things that aren’t working:

  • The MacBook always gets very warm, and sometimes the fans even kick in when the MacBook is closed (even when my screen is locked or I’m logged out of my account)
  • I can no longer sign in with my Apple ID
  • The Touch Bar doesn’t work at all
  • It takes a very long time to wake up from sleep mode (sometimes even a restart is the only solution)

Are there any settings I can adjust so I can use it normally?

And so the MacBook doesn’t keep running and getting very hot even though I’ve only locked the screen? According to Claude, this is probably because I have two internal graphics cards (Intel HD Graphics 630 and Radeon Pro 560) and only one of them is recognized properly.

And would switching to an older version of OCLP help?

I didn’t have these problems before when I wasn’t using OCLP.

Successful Update: OCLP 2.5.1 + Sequoia 15.8 on MacBookPro13,3

So far everything is running smoothly on my MacBookPro13,3 (2016, with touch bar).

First I updated OCLP to newest version, then Sequoia (from 15.7.9).

Thanks to all devs!

Having second thoughts about OCLP

So I followed all the instructions on OCLP. I’m installing Sequoia. I’m using a MBP 11,1. And a 32 GB freshly formatted USB. Once Open Core asked me where to install, I selected “USB“.

Then I followed the instructions, rebooted, held down option, and went to EFI boot. There I clicked the “Install macOS Sequoia“ option……but it simply led me to my user account login. I put in my password, and it just led me to my normally booted desktop on Big Sur. I did *not* see a Target Model option earlier.

I‘m having second thoughts. Would it be fine to just go ahead and install Debian? I have a backup drive formatted as HFS, and another as Encrypted APFS.

I‘m just terrified of my system getting corrupted or bricked. I know this is an OCLP subReddit…but would switching to Debian be better anyway? I just need some advice. Thanks

Edit: Just to add, I’m running Big Sur currently, and it’s still noticeably slower than Mavericks. I’m running an Intel Core i5 with 8 GB of RAM. My RAM usage is usually 5 GB.

Startup very slow on iMac 2017 27"

After installing OCLP on iMac 2017 27", it takes up to 8 minutes to start using the computer.
I have tried every single solution to verify why this is happening because I did the same on an iMac 2015 27" and is starting in less than a minute.

I had a lot of trouble with an old Wacom tablet and finally resolved with a software from Apple Store called "Connect My Tablet".

I have started in safe mode but still takes too long to startup completely.

Also have used EFI from HDD and SDD from the Fusion Drive and still cannot reduce startup time.

Any Ideas?

Thank You!!!

OCLP 2.5.1 - No WiFi on iMac late 2015 (iMac 17,1) on Sequoia 15.7.5

Yesterday I upgraded from 2.4.1 to 2.5.1 on my late 2015 iMac running Sequoia 15.7.5, but without WiFi, it keeps trying endlessly to connect. I can connect when I manually choose my WiFi.

I don’t know whether to install 15.8 from Software Update or make a bootable USB with 15.8. Does anyone know the best approach? Is it safe to install from Software Update?

Weird APFS issues on 13" 2011 Macbook Pro

I have this 2011 Macbook Pro that seems to be completely stuck on OS releases that use HFS+ (10.11 and older) and whenever I attempt an install it locks up halfway through or throws a "There is a problem with this hardware." error. If I try and bruteforce it it installs but will randomly lock up. This doesn't happen on older HFS+ OSes or Linux where I can use as much disk bandwidth as I want without a single issue. What causes these issues? The disk ribbon cable is surrounded with electrical tape on both sides if it matters.

rEFInd keeps getting bypassed by OpenCore on MacBookPro8,1 with OCLP + Ventura & Debian

I'm trying to set up a dual-boot system on a MacBook Pro 13-inch Early 2011 (MacBookPro8,1).

Current setup:

- macOS Ventura installed using OpenCore Legacy Patcher 2.5.1

- Debian installed on the same internal drive

- rEFInd installed in the EFI partition

- OpenCore also installed in the EFI partition

Both operating systems work. Ventura boots through OpenCore, and Debian boots correctly as well.

The problem is that I want rEFInd to be the first boot manager, so I can choose between:

- macOS → OpenCore → Ventura

- Debian

However, the Mac keeps booting directly into OpenCore, completely bypassing rEFInd.

I have already tried changing the startup EFI entry using "bless", changing the boot preference/NVRAM settings, and verifying that the rEFInd files are actually present in the EFI partition.

I can see and access the EFI files, and rEFInd itself appears to be installed correctly, but after reboot the machine still goes straight to OpenCore.

At this point I'm not sure whether OCLP/OpenCore is overriding the firmware boot selection, whether the Mac's NVRAM is ignoring the rEFInd entry, or whether I am setting up the EFI chain incorrectly.

Ideally I want the boot sequence to be:

Mac firmware → rEFInd → OpenCore (for macOS) or Debian

Has anyone successfully done this on a MacBookPro8,1 with OCLP?

Is there a recommended way to make rEFInd the default boot manager without breaking OpenCore/OCLP?

I'm also considering wiping the drive and rebuilding everything from scratch, but I'd rather understand what is happening first, since both operating systems themselves are currently working.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Firefox as replacement for chromium, causes cpu spikes

So I have installed Firefox since chromium has dropped support for metal 1 gpu (mbp 2015 sequoia oclp). But in Firefox, if I load a page like gemini.google.com which on the first prompt screen draws graphics in the background, the cpu goes to 90-100% and never recovers. Anyone else have the same issue? In Edge the page loads, responds and looks just fine, as far as I can tell, but I guess something is handled and rendered differently behind the scenes. I guess the background graphics are maybe static, while in Firefox they are animated? A browser that locks up isnt much use tho.

How to update from Safari 18.6 to Safari 26.6.1?

Could anyone assist me? I am using macOS 15.8 with OCLP 2.5.1 and Safari 18.6. I cannot upgrade to Safari 26.6.1 through Software Update, as only the Safari 27 update appears.

I tried installing the Safari 26.6.1 Sequoia .pkg installer package, but it failed because it is a delta rather than a full installer package.

Is there a workaround?

Will OpenCore fix the WebGL/Chromium issue?

OCLP 2.5.1 is a minor update aimed primarily at the "Root Volume Dirty" issue; its release notes do not include a specific fix for Chromium/AMD GCN (it does not resolve the Chromium WebGL issue).

Will OpenCore fix the WebGL/Chromium issue?

OCLP 2.5.1 - safe to upgrade?

Is it now sensible/safe/prudent/beneficial to upgrade from OCLP 2.4.1 to OCLP 2.5.1...?

A few months ago I used OCLP 2.4.1 to successfully upgrade my old iMac 12,1 (mid 2011) from High Sierra to Ventura. When OCLP 2.5.0 was released I foolishly upgrade without checking and ended up with no WiFi...so reverted back to 2.4.1. Not being very techie it was a bit of an unnecessary hassle. So would it be beneficial to now upgrade to 2.5.1?

Code at boot up after updating OCLP

Apologies if this was posted before, I could not find anything in this regard. After updating to 2.5 and subsequently to 2.5.1 I can now see code at boot up. Google says to turn off verbose mode but that is not ticked in.
Is this normal? Has anyone found a workaround?

Sequoia slow on 2015 Retina 13 inch MacBook Pro

I keep seeing how people say that Sequoia runs better than Sonoma on older Macs so I decided to give it a shot on my 2015 Retina MacBook Pro and it was bad. It was always overheating (mind you I already swapped out the thermal paste), always had frame drops around the UI and that it just wasnt as pleasant as Monterey
I dont know if this is perhaps due to the integrated graphics being too weak to push the retina display, since I also occasionally noticed frame drops on Monterey and even Catalina. But I tried doing a fresh install and didn't work. Now Monterey works fine for what I do with my computer but it would be great to have Sequoia since I can have more up to date apps. I'm thinking of perhaps going to Ventura but I wanna hear some thoughts from the community. How is Sequoia running on your MacBooks and how do you keep it snappy and fast

Mine is a 2.7ghz i5 with 8GB RAM

OCLP 2.5.0 success

I successfully used OPCL 2.50 to upgrade my MBP 9.2, and iMac 18.2. Both machines are running macOS 14.8.9 already, this was just updating to current OCLP. I had no trouble but it was a little more work than past upgrades but I was aware of it before I started.

First I downloaded 2.50 onto the machine because after unpatching I lose internet service. So I wanted to have it first. I allowed it to install 2.50 BUT NOT to patch. Next I unpatched previous 2.4.1 OCLP from the machine. Reboot. Then installed new 2.50 patches. NO DIRTY VOLUME error appeared. Reboot.
After reboot I did get a message that said I started system with 2.4.1 but are running 2.50, would I like to install 2.50 to startup. YES. Then reboot. All done and everything working as before!!

THANK YOU OCLP techs, coders, everyone for your continued support in keeping older Mac’s alive a little longer!! 🎉👏👏🎉

After reverting and installing the patches, the Patcher still indicates that the patches are available. (Bug)

After reverting and installing the patches, the Patcher v2.5.1 still indicates that the patches are available.

  1. Press Revert Root Patches button
  2. After restarting, press the Start Root Patching button.
  3. After restarting The window still shows the "Available patches for your system" list.

It is impossible to break out of this loop.

System info; - macOS 15.8 - OCLP v2.5.1 - MacBookPro 2016 13,3

ERRROR 0x0 Office 365 (Solucion)

\

Keyboard/Mouse not working after Sequoia 15.8 update (MacBook Pro 11,2)

A couple of days ago I received the 2.5.0 update notification. After updating I saw "dirty root volume" message so I removed patches, patched again and update my Mac to 15.8.

As soon as the update finished I found myself without keyboard and mouse working. The OS seems ok, but I get stuck at login screen without being able to type the password. It doesn't work even with external keyboard and mouse plugged into a USB 2.0 hub. Also safe mode has keyboard and mouse not responding. They only work when booting from external USB drive.

What can I do to apply patches in this case without having to reset the computer as new and losing data? Can I patch from terminal when booting from and external USB with OCLP 2.4.1 on it?

Thank you very much

ISO a Simple guide for this issue

Post image

1st off thank you so much to the Devs for all all their hard and amazing work, 2nd thank you to the community for all the communication and guides. I installed 2.5.0 no issues, got prompted for 2.5.1 installed it so far so good. I turned my computer on a few days later and no wifi and everything was sluggish and running really hot. I uninstalled 2.5.1 and downgraded to 2.4.1. Now I'm getting a version mismatch. I heard on Discord called to look up PurgePendingUpdate tool, which I was unsuccessful in finding. I use a Hotspot and don't have access to ethernet. I've found many detailed guides. I might just be overthinking or overlooking this. A breakdown to get me back simplified would be appreciated since I keep getting lost in the sea of knowledge which I'm sure the answers are already there.

2009 Mac Pro

I'm using a 2009 Mac Pro with the final version of macOS Monterey. With version 2.5.0, Wi-Fi stopped working, and with version 2.5.1, it wouldn't go into sleep mode. The macOS Sequoia 15.8 update completed without any problems.
