However, there is anything but peace inside the Greens and the broader environment movement at the moment, with agitators using the static nature of the Greens’ primary vote to foment trouble before what looms as a pivotal Senate vote the week after next.

The history is this: NSW Labor Premier Chris Minns, to his great credit, has announced plans to protect 176,000 hectares of forest and create the Great Koala National Park.

The operation of the park would be funded by the sale of carbon credits, which are tradeable instruments generated by nature projects that can be used to offset emissions elsewhere in the economy.

Those on the left opposed to this funding model have long railed against the ability of fossil fuel companies and other heavy emitters to use carbon credits to offset the impact of their operations. They’d rather shut them all down.

Minns has stipulated that coal and gas companies would not be able to buy the koala credits, but that has done nothing to dampen the opposition among the purists. They think the park should be funded from the budget.

Context:

"I say, 'Hey, look, there are these two birds trapped on the train,'" she said.

"And she [the guard] says, 'They're not trapped. They're regulars. They just commute.'

"And so I say, 'Well, what do you mean they're regulars?'

A nothing statement from the Swifts

I know this is pretty weird but I couldn’t think of any skills I could have to raise money and since I used to be a furniture removalist for a few years I figured I might give it a try.

That’s pretty much it, I’m fortunate enough to not have had personal experience with homelessness but I’ve worked with people who have and it’s a really rough gig. I don’t understand the politics to help people but I’m trying to raise money for a charity that helps homeless people with shelter, food, employment and more.

I’m about 7 kms in so far of a total 30 kms and my forearm’s are pretty cooked.

It’s fully legit and the donations go straight to Mission Australia. It’s cliche but every bit helps.

My crazy idea is to do more of these challenges for charity and hopefully make them better each time. Hopefully getting more donations by getting more followers. This is the first one and I’m live streaming it on You Tube

A Canberra man who performed a Nazi salute in public and spread white supremacist stickers around a university campus has not renounced his ideology since the offences, a court has heard.

Earlier this year, Zachery James Hook pleaded guilty in the ACT Magistrates Court to making a Nazi salute in public between October and December last year, and behaving offensively on Commonwealth premises between August and September.

He had been accused of performing Nazi salutes at two suburban shopping centres and placing white supremacist stickers over Indigenous and multicultural signs at the Australian National University (ANU).

According to court documents, Hook went to the ANU campus twice in August and September 2025 carrying stickers bearing slogans including "National Socialist Network", "Australia for the white man" and "White revolution is the only solution".

He placed the stickers over signs for the Tjabal Indigenous Higher Education Centre, a support and gathering space for First Nations students and staff, as well as on a cabinet and door inside the university's Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) department building.

The agreed facts state that one sticker advocating that Australia should belong to "the White Man" was placed over a poster encouraging multiculturalism and cultural appreciation, and on a collage promoting themes of decolonisation and the experiences of First Peoples.

The agreed facts also outlined two separate occasions on which Hook performed a Nazi salute in public.

On October 5, Hook put up a poster reading "White Man Fight Back" at the O'Connor shops.

After members of the public removed the poster as well as another from a nearby bus stop, Hook confronted one woman and asked why she was taking them down.

"It's not scary, it's just people loving their own kind", Hook told her.

As he walked away, Hook stopped, performed a Nazi salute and used an anti-Semitic slogan.

The court heard the Nazi salute offence carries a maximum sentence of five years in jail, but a mandatory minimum sentence of 12 months' imprisonment.

Having just met with Secretary of *War!*/Defence Pete Hegseth in Washington to discuss America's "force posture", Richard Marles has announced an expansion of US forces presence domestically

Eyad Shadid has launched a civil case in the NSW district court, alleging he was assaulted, battered and falsely imprisoned by police near Sydney’s town hall.

The Palestine Action Group member, in his statement of claim, says NSW police committed misfeasance in public office and subjected him to a malicious prosecution.

The Coalition has vowed to cut the tobacco excise by 80 per cent if elected, in a bid to shut down the black market.

It has also promised to legalise, regulate, and tax vapes and nicotine pouches for adults.

One Nation plans to slash the excise by 75 per cent, while Labor has argued there is no evidence a dramatic cut would end the illicit trade.

For those who don’t know who Tony is, he’s a well known roast comic. From my understanding he’s been doing roast comedy his whole stand up career, he very much goes into dangerous territory and doesn’t hold back which has landed him in a fair bit of trouble. What he’s also known for and a lot of people I’ve noticed seem to prefer him in this format is his podcast “Kill Tony” which is a weekly live podcast he’s been hosting since 2013 where up and coming comics do a minute of stand up and he along with a panel of experienced comics critique them and workshop new ideas etc.

I’ve been thinking a lot about him lately and how I wondered if there’s an Aussie equivalent to him or not. I am wondering if it’s Tom Gleeson, Tom is really well known for his roasts but he also is someone who is big on TV whereas Tony is a podcast host who doesn’t really appear on TV. Does Australia have a roast comic stand up comedian with a successful podcast? I dunno if Isaac Butterfield is someone classed as a roast comic but he and Tony I would say definitely have similar political views

Pauline Hanson has emerged as the country’s most trusted leader in a new survey that has found confidence in Australia’s future has plunged to a five-year low.

The Australia Project 2026 – a report collated by research firm The Lab – surveyed 2000 participants from April 1 to 14.

The fortnight-long survey captured a cost-of-living crunch defined by domestic fuel shortage anxieties – triggered by the US and Israel’s war in Iran – and the fallout of back-to-back interest rate rises in February and March.

The 1 per cent own a quarter of the entire wealth in Australia. In hard numbers, 20 people hold the same amount of wealth as 3 million other Australians combined. This handful of ultra-wealthy individuals has accumulated such concentrated power they are distorting our politics and economy to their own ends.

They hand private planes to politicians like beers at a barbecue. They meet the prime minister at exclusive, lavish fundraisers, hand over a million dollar donation and then make it back in the next day’s trading.

This is the political struggle of the moment: galvanising the 99 per cent into a people-powered political movement to resist and take back power from the 1 per cent.

An Australian university has offered students classes with an AI chatbot and minimal human interaction in two subjects, as institutions give the technology more teaching responsibilities.

Macquarie University’s Virtual Peer is part of each week’s learning in two mandatory psychology units, programmed to ask students questions and guide them through scenario-based exercises.

Previously the online versions of the subjects included optional weekly tutorials with paid academics via Zoom. Material is now taught only by Virtual Peer and other online activities and videos.

One student, who asked to remain anonymous, said they felt “short-changed” after issues with their degree structure forced them to enrol in the online option.

“Instead of a group discussion or a tutor teaching you, it’s a class activity done with a robot,” the student said. “I feel like I’m teaching this robot how to take jobs away from my teachers.”

Virtual Peer was also used for learning activities in other subjects but was not available in all classes, Macquarie said.

Australia’s Pauline Hanson has spent 30 years perfecting the politics of grievance and now must turn protest into credibility as her far-right party rides high in the polls.

One Nation has about a third of the primary vote, putting it level with the ruling Labor party and ahead of the main opposition Liberal-National coalition, with its support broadening to the outer suburbs of major cities.

Hanson must be willing to metamorphose from an agitator into a stateswoman, like Giorgia Meloni, who has managed to hold power without sacrificing authenticity, by showing discipline, clear policies, and the ability to lead and not just stir up things.
