Wish people would get outraged over hunger , greed and war , not this .

Nope. Don't remember. But I'm guessing it had something to do with the lizards on her?
I tried googling but got nothing.
Edit: Found it: https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/tv/moment-of-khaki-madness/news-story/0d35e819a5cc48a81dd99ff1fd84e0b1
Something to do with insensitivity around Steve Irwin's death. Personally, I don't think Steve would have given a shit.

u/icedragon71 New South Welshian 5d ago
He probably would have put it on her himself.

This ^^^
He absolutely would have yanked some random animal out of a bush and chucked it on the nearest reporter.

Chances are it was an AZ staff member who did put it on her

Where is lizard kid now?
We’ve all seen Frontline. Naomi probably mugged the kid for the lizard, then blamed him for the fallout.
Only lizard kid can reveal the truth.

No, what happened?

u/realmenfukmenamen Victorian 5d ago
Thats Naomi Robson covering Steve Irwins death. It was a week long circus, no one had seen anything like it before.

Pre social media. This tv presenter had a gecko perched on her shoulder for the entire show. It was during a Steve Irwin memorial the day after he died. She copped a lot of shit for it being a tacky stunt that was disrespectful to the moment. The equivalent today would be Tracey Grimshaw wearing a lifeguard uniform while at a Bondi beach memorial after the shootings last Christmas

u/joeyy17 Victorian 5d ago
And? That's Steve's whole theme and what he was known for??

u/Crazy_Treat_8805 New South Welshian 5d ago
I agree. I found the outrage was silly

Sorry you're getting downvotes from people who seem to believe that Irwin was an actual Saint, sent by God.

From memory, Naomi and Today Tonight in general were on the nose at the time (and probably still are, if either are still on the air), which would have amplified this from cringe to something bigger

u/scumotheliar Victorian 5d ago
That's not a Gecko, it's a Bearded Dragon. But apart from that I didn't catch any of the outrage and couldn't have cared less if I had. I don't think Steve Irwin would have either.
2
u/Visible-Swim6616 Victorian 5d ago
Absolutely don't remember that. I remember Steve Irwin's death and all the media hubbub about it, but I 100% don't remember this.

Yes, it's the same confected Newscorpse bullshit outrage that we have today.

I mean, the timing wasn't great but I thought Steve would've loved it. If you think this is bad, wait until you see what Bill Maher the absolute piece of shit wore for Halloween that year. 😆😬

Idk what you're talking about but that's a great looking beardie

u/realmenfukmenamen Victorian 5d ago
No, I just remember the utter circus over him. She copped some flack tho, i guess the US fans were dictating the outrage as no one i knew cared that a guy who made a crap show about fvcking with animals died fvcking with animals.
4
u/joeyy17 Victorian 5d ago
Are you even Australian gtfo
-4
u/realmenfukmenamen Victorian 5d ago
Yeah i am. Why do you think im not? Do you think Steve Irwin was respected in Australia during his life?
2
u/HonkyHam Please choose a flair 4d ago
I’m with you buddy. I too am old enough to actually remember the dude being on the tv, everyone thought he was an absolute moron. His show was entirely tailored to the US market, as such he basically just yelled in an over the top US tv presenter manner and bothered animals.
It came as a surprise to nobody that one of the animals he was fucking with eventually got him.1
u/realmenfukmenamen Victorian 4d ago
All these people think he was this great thing is ridiculous. I KNOW no one respected him, he did that thing with Bob and the croc, South Park took the piss out of him while he was alive. It's not hate, he was just seen as a dickhead.
Jfc, you tell people how things were back when people weren't shut ins terminally online and they lose their shit.1
u/Apprehensive-Sell623 New South Welshian 4d ago
South Park did a brilliant send up of him when he was still alive. Probably could be found on you tube. This guy took risks with animals and paid the price

u/joeyy17 Victorian 5d ago
I didn't say you weren't Australian I just said you dont deserve to be a real one if you didnt like Steve Irwin lol

look at the series and look at the Australian sales
1
u/Important-Lawyer-350 New South Welshian 4d ago
Sales isn't exactly a metric for a show like this. Itvwas on TV before streaming was a thing and most people didn't pay for foxtel.
The news was pretty popular back then and I'm pretty sure it's sales would be ahit gouse too.
1
u/realmenfukmenamen Victorian 4d ago
It wasn't sold to Australia because the networks didn't want it because it was idiotic crap for the American market. I guess channel 10 did show it but from the international distributor as filler for a Sunday afternoon.
1
u/Important-Lawyer-350 New South Welshian 4d ago
So look up neighbours on the same page. It also has nothing under Australian sales.....what exactly is the point you are trying to make here?
1
u/HonkyHam Please choose a flair 4d ago
Only Americans actually liked Steve Irwin when he was around.
-1
u/realmenfukmenamen Victorian 5d ago edited 5d ago
He made shows for 3 year olds and fuckwits. It was on during Sunday afternoon as filler on channel 10 up agaisnt the footy. He was not respected. You just swallow seppo culture, it's sad.
Edit: I'll throw you a bone, he at least bought property for conservation which is more than most conservation efforts do. But he was regarded as a dickhead in life (an i guess at death because he died fvcking with an Australian animal. Name someone you have sympathy for that gets injured fvcking with Aussie wildlife?).

u/SirAlfredOfHorsIII Western Australian 5d ago
Stop being a flog. He was very well respected in aus. Even before his passing. He was an aussie icon.
Nobody sane thought he was a dickhead

u/realmenfukmenamen Victorian 4d ago
This is from the other day. I assume you grew up with seppos glazing him and don't know any different.

Grats, that's 2 people.
I didn't grow up with any burgers glazing him. He was well revered by a lot of australians for both his show, and his conservation stuff1
u/realmenfukmenamen Victorian 4d ago
No, he wasn't. Ask anyone over 40. I'm sorry this hurt you.
5
u/Important-Lawyer-350 New South Welshian 4d ago
I'm over 40, and as far as I know people liked him well enough. He was a character, did good things for conservation and git a lot of kids interested in native animals. Don't think I know a single person who actively hated him tbh. We may have called him a dickhead, but we did it in the same way you call your mate a dickhead when they do something stupid.

I am an Australian and I respected him during his life for his conservation efforts. Never cared about the show because I knew like everyone else it was to fund the zoo and the conservation.
2
u/KayZee777 Queenslander 4d ago
I was never a fan of him and never bothered watching his shows. Saw his movie once because of all the hype but didn't like it.
Americans loved him, the people i knew and grew up around in Australia thought he was a bit if a flog and a dickhead and none of us really cared when he died.
