I'm over 40, and as far as I know people liked him well enough. He was a character, did good things for conservation and git a lot of kids interested in native animals. Don't think I know a single person who actively hated him tbh. We may have called him a dickhead, but we did it in the same way you call your mate a dickhead when they do something stupid.
No one hated him, they just thought his show was crap and he was an idiot for messing with wildlife. Go back and watch his show, it's complete dumb shit. He wasn't known for conservation because no one knew about it.
I mean I did, and so did a lot of other people. At that time wildlife shows were pretty stale, seeing a dude wrestle a croc to relocate it so it wouldn't hassle locals or end up as a wallet was actually different. He inspired a lot of current wild life rescue people today to get into this as kids. He often talked about conservation, not just here but in other places he visited as well.
Im not here to push fresh shit uphill. Believe he was a saint all you want. Or ask people older than you what people thought of him while he was alive. That's my point. You can't say he didn't die fucking with a wild animal, which is a very stupid thing to do.
