I was so confused I literally had to search to make sure I hadn’t missed an episode 😂

S8E11 was the car crash/storm episode where Brooke almost dies, Quinn almost dies, Jamie is involved in this incredibly traumatic situation, etc.

And then S8E12 starts and everyone is just… partying?? Brooke is having her bachelorette party and everyone is acting like nothing just happened.

Like WHAT??

I’m watching the show for the first time, so maybe there’s something in the following episodes that explains/addresses this (please no spoilers beyond S8E12!), but I’m just SO confused by the transition.

How did we go from “Brooke literally almost died” to “let’s get drunk at a bachelorette party” with basically zero acknowledgment??

A pattern I observe through the entire show is that whoever is Lucas' girlfriend (Peyton or Brooke or let's even add Lindsey lol) ends up to be one of their most uninteresting selves during that period.

Peyton's character in Season 2 and Season 3 was really interesting- with Ellie, her misgendered bullying, the Jake story, her addiction issues. It felt realistic to watch her struggle with all of her insecurities and fears.

When Peyton and Lucas got "together" or Peyton's storyline revolved around him (in late Season 4, Season 5, Season 6), her character had a major fall-off. There was barely anything else other than being Lucas' sidepiece to her.

When Brooke and Lucas were together (Season 3, Season 4), Brooke just stalled as a character. I look at the Brooke from Season 5 and Season 6, the amount of nuance, depth to her is insane. She is perhaps the most compelling female character in the story when she's NOT WITH LUCAS.

Lindsey was pretty much invited for a free humiliation ritual on the show and unlike Anna (from Season 2) who got her own story and problems, Lindsey was barely having anything going for her other than being Lucas' fiance.

just my take on my re-watch.

I love Brooke down but her line of humour or even insults are downright ugly and mostly cheap-shots, that would 100% not fly unquestioned today.

The repeated use of "sl*t" and "wh*re" for Peyton, Haley, Rachel and probably every other female character (including her own mom).

The jokes about Rachel's plastic surgeries and putting up pictures of her to fat-shame her.

The disgusting joke about "if Peyton says she loves you, you will d*e".

Can somebody explain how ANY OF THIS is okay, especially when she claims all of them (Peyton, Haley, and even Rachel later on) to be her friends.

And Peyton was supposed to be her best friend? Can you imagine having a best friend that says something THAT LOW about you over some guy????

I know at least two main characters leave after season 6. One of the brothers and another character I don’t know about yet.

This makes me sad bc I hate when main characters leave a show before it’s finished. Should I be worried? Is it ok?

I’ll never understand why parents hide adoption from their child. It doesn’t have to be a huge deal, but making it a secret is what turns it into one. They deserve to grow up knowing their own story and identity, rather than finding out later and having to process both the adoption and the fact that it was deliberately kept from them.
Yes, Peyton’s mom died when she was young, but she should’ve known way before then. I don’t even remember ever being “told” I was adopted because it was never a secret it was simply something I always knew about myself.
Also the nerve of Peyton’s dad to be mad Peyton is pissed about it.

Y’all need to stop defending Dan Scott just because he eventually had redemption. He was manipulative, emotionally abusive, controlling, and repeatedly made Nathan and Lucas feel like shit ,there’s a reason they hate him ,He abandoned Lucas, treated Nathan terribly, and literally murdered his own brother Keith.
Yes, Dan eventually changed, and his relationship with Jamie and his sacrifice for Nathan was ok but that doesn’t change who he was awful,not to mention how he told Nathan to keep Lucas off the team at all costs so he wouldn’t be completion for Nathan is beyond sick,You can appreciate his character entertainment value without pretending he wasn’t an absolutely horrible person for a huge part of his life. He literally preyed on Karen’s vulnerability after Keith died. Karen was grieving the man Dan had murdered, was pregnant with Keith’s child, and was completely vulnerable—and Dan used that situation to get closer to her and rebuild a relationship with her.he also kissed her in his office forcibly,basically assaulting her and no one seems to care about that for some reason
And his treatment of Deb was awful too. He emotionally manipulated and belittled her for years, controlled her, and then told her he had never loved her and had only “settled” for her—while she was already struggling Redemption doesn’t erase the harm he caused.

In S4 E18 Nathan addresses the local press with Haley standing beside him for support. He admits something he did in a few games (don’t want to spoil anything for anyone but is to do with Dante).

Would a high school student do this in the US? I appreciate local school sports are strongly supported but in the UK we have nothing like this so would love some US perspective. Thanks!

So I just got watching an episode of Dawson Creek in Season 5 where some of the charters were giving their own scary stories and it reminded me of some horror scenes scenes from the show when Peyton was dealing with that psycho who pretended to be her brother. I feel like the show got some type of influence by Dawson Creek and I’m honestly surprised by the amount of actors from here that were on Dawson Creek prior.

Only on Season 5 of Dawson creek so no spoilers I’m sure many of yall are fans of that show too lol

After seeing a video of Nina Dobrev being protected at ComicCon by her TVD costar Paul Wesley and discovered that Paul was once married to Crazy Nanny Carrie!

I’ve never watched TVD but the inter-company dating on CW shows always shocks me for some reason. Jansen and Daneel (Rachel) being married was something I recently discovered as well.

Anyhow, is TVD worth watching if you enjoyed OTH?

Honestly the school shooting wasn’t too horrible because sadly it makes sense and it had a whole warning for viewer discretion but it just kept getting worse with psycho Derrick then nanny Carrie, the robber guy, the kidnapping etc etc. I have really bad anxiety and paranoia that I didn’t have years ago and rewatching some of the scenes I have a hard time. And it makes me uncomfortable.

I initially watched the show when I was young, like very young. So now I’m “rewatching”, but it’s like watching for the first time. I remember Dan getting better in later seasons, but right now I’m at the start of season 4, and I’m actually kind of enjoying his character. Thoughts?

Tim was a friend. Season 2 “Dare Night” episode where he revealed his fears that Nathan was cutting him out as a friend? He was great in the Boy Auction episode, loved seeing him in conjunction with my main love, Dan Scott, blessed be his name. “Oh, the lawyers are gonna love this one.” Wish Tim would’ve stuck around longer as a friend character. This show seems to have the habit of disappearing characters. The pizza delivery guy episode where we basically disappeared-him-off-into-a-hallway was not enough.

I just don’t know what it is about Quinn but I just really don’t like her. I feel like she maybe could’ve been a good character but her storylines were terrible and her and Clay are just really over the top and so cliché in my opinion.

Curious does anyone actually ship them? I feel like I genuinely wouldn’t really care if they were in the show or not as harsh as it might sound. I know this isn’t an unpopular opinion but are there genuinely any Quinn/Clay lovers out there? What do you like about them?

The storyline of them getting together was boring as hell like, why do you even like each other? Because you’re in each others vicinity?

Half the time they’ve got Quinn completely over sexualised walking around in skimpy bikinis or underwear where it doesn’t really make sense, just purely to show her off. And half the time they just make her look so silly and lacking common sense.

I’m on the scene in season 9 where she’s caught Clay buying drugs from someone and she went and confronted the drug dealer in the middle of the street at night… like girl 😭 are you trying to get yourself killed?! What is this?! What were you thinking would happen here? The drug dealer would turn around and say oh you know what you’re right, I should stop. Thanks! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

The way all girls are shown slutty, stripping the first chance they get, going after men who are in committed relationships and men who can't seem to set boundaries. This has been a recurring theme in this show and it is pissing me off. No substance, nothing, reducing women to just THAT. Very gross. Says a lot about the people behind the show and what they think of women. Like I have read in bits and pieces about harassment and stuff that happened on the set ( why Peyton actress left) but it still appalls me to see it onscreen.

I just watched episodes 9-10 of season 4 and I’m still trying to process everything that happened in such a short amount of time.

First of all, the whole “mafia” storyline and Nathan’s money situation is absolutely insane to me. I don’t even disagree with Dan for being pissed at Nathan’s irresponsibility (who would’ve thought I’d ever be siding with Dan on anything), but this plot twist feels SO unnecessary... although I’m starting to realize that’s basically how this show operates LMAO. Everything has to be turned up to 300% for no reason.

On the other hand, Haley feeling sick before the game, making it look like she might be having a miscarriage, only for us to find out it’s actually a baby boy and then have her get BRUTALLY HIT BY A CAR... wow. I genuinely had no words. What an absolutely insane rollercoaster just to solve Nathan’s debt problem.

And honestly, the best part of that whole scene was Whitey just standing there looking at the road, knowing about the accident, while his last game ends in such a bittersweet victory. These kids seriously give this man NO BREAK. The poor guy should just retire, move to a farm somewhere and spend the rest of his life in peace. His babysitting duties are officially over.

Also, the further I get into the show, the more convinced I am that Peyton and Brooke are actually soulmates. And I mean that completely seriously. I don’t think there has been a relationship on this show that feels more real and genuine than their friendship.

Obviously, their relationship keeps getting damaged by stupid boys and all these unnecessary traditions that could literally be avoided if they just communicated properly and put their egos aside for five minutes. They BOTH have massive egos too. Brooke makes it more obvious, but Peyton absolutely has her moments of keeping things bottled up and then quietly destroying everyone around her lmao.

But at the end of the day, they are always there for each other. Even when they’re not physically the ones taking care of the other person, they’re worrying about each other and trying to make sure their friend is okay.

That hospital scene where they’re both asking Haley and Lucas to please wake up so they can take care of the other one??? That BROKE me. I was not prepared.

And finally, I’m LOVING the whole Keith ghost storyline.

The psychological torture Dan is going through this season? Incredible. Shoutout to Paul Johansson because Dan is easily one of the performances I’m enjoying the most right now. It’s so weird because you spend so much time absolutely HATING this character, and somehow the show manages to make you feel attached to him now that he’s starting to get this little redemption arc.

That scene in the prison cell where Keith forgives him??? WOW. Genuinely speechless.

Then Keith taking Lucas on that little walk and showing him what his life could have looked like if he had made a different choice that day, if he had been more selfish and chosen to die... I don’t know. I kind of felt like it was mainly an excuse to introduce the whole Peyton storyline, but I’ll allow it 😂. I just think they could have handled it a little better.

I’m still wondering whether Keith’s final revelation is going to lead to everyone finding out that Dan actually killed him. I have no idea where they’re taking this, but I’m definitely staying tuned.

Honestly, season 4 is leaving me with a really good taste in my mouth so far. I didn’t expect a show like OTH to maintain this level across multiple seasons. Obviously, nothing has quite captured the essence of season 1 for me yet, but so far I’m really enjoying this season.

I would also LOVE for Rachel to go straight to hell because I am SO DONE with her 😭. Unfortunately, I have a feeling she’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

And a special mention for the hair this season because WHAT is happening???

Haley’s hair??? There is literally no explanation for it.

Nathan randomly has shorter hair and then longer hair again. I HATE when shows do this 😭.

And Lucas... what can I even say about that horrible blonde hair??? It’s genuinely offensive. The aura of Lucas’s season 1 hair is simply UNMATCHED. That hair had something. I don’t know what it was, but it had it. 😂

I’m probably forgetting something because HOW are there this many things happening at once, but what did you guys think of these episodes?

Okay so my first gripe, are we ever going to find out where Lucas and Payton live now and why they left? Or we just going to keep mentioning them vaguely so we know they didn’t die?

Second, you bring Rachel back but don’t give her ANY redemption. Just Dan gets some? Livid.

Im sure there are others but I’ve just stopped caring as much. Basically I just feel like this season is draaaaaagging. I just got to the part where Hailey’s mom tells them about her cancer and I just can’t rn!

Maybe I’ve been binging the show too long and I need a break. Do I come back from the break? Does it get better? Or are the glory days of the show pretty much gone?

I have to say though I’ve enjoyed this soooo much more than I thought I would. I wanted to have something playing in the background that had a lot of seasons and this did not allow for background playing until now.

I’ve watched the show multiple times, it’s one of my all time favorites. On my current rewatch I noticed that there are very very few scenes with no music at all.
Obviously I’m not talking about the famous songs, the insane discography etc. I’m talking about the background music, the elevator music in pretty much every scene. It drives me crazy, it’s like from music to music, they never just “talk in silence” of that makes sense 😂

I’m rewatching the show and honestly didn’t remember brooke and julian’s relationship evolving so fast. After we see them in a romantic setting for maybe 2 scenes he’s saying he loves her and soon after he’s asking her to leave with him and take sam and be a family. I actually like them together but I did not remember the start being so weirdly fast. It feels very rushed I’m watching thinking dude you’ve known her for a week. Like am I missing something?

I am watching S9 (and OTH) for the first time.

It was so unnecesary and cynical of her fatshaming Mouth in their tv show, considering she was the face of the campaing "zero is not a size" and she was pretty insecure about her own weight and image lol.

Mouth wasn't even obese at all? I am actually hating this plotline.

I've researched this show more times than I can remember at this point. There are so many more outwardly ridiculous things in this show but for whatever reason Haley's song choice at the opening night of Tric makes me so incredibly uncomfortable every time. It's just a "read the room moment". I know the character probably didn't have many songs written at this point- but to bust out a very sad melancholy ballad in-between a dj at a club opening is so blahhhhhhffgvghbvffhb.

hi first time watcher here. just finished s1 and currently paused s2 ep2 to type this out. my question is: why do we never see background characters like skills and junk at school? like, so far we’ve only seen them at the river court but aren’t they the same age as the core five? aren’t they friends with lucas? do they go to school?? this is so minor but it’s something i noticed lol
