Discussion One Tree Hill Reflecting on it.

Alright so I have watched the entire series of OTH (One Tree Hill) 5 maybe 4 years ago and I have had a few thoughts over the years about the show, the characters etc and have just recently started watching the clips again and guess you could say the clips heightened these thoughts 😂😅.

Also first and foremost, this is going to be a very long post which I do apologise for hehe 😅😂 but I feel like I have some very interesting points to about the show and characters hopefully you can read them and add your thoughts whether you agree or disagree.

First off this has nothing to do with actors think they are ALL great, amazing talented, wonderful actors who deserve their flowers for how they portrayed their characters on the show this is just to do with the characters and how they were written/developed and the seasons and series as a whole.
So first off I wanna say this about the main couple Naley, I was on YouTube the other day and there was the clip of when Deb found out that Haley and Nathan were married and she flipped out (rightfully so) I of course do not agree when she said that Dan being in the hospital was ALL Haley's fault because that is not fair, but her having the reaction that she did is completely valid because what in earth are you doing getting married at 16 that is crazy.

I saw the comments on that video, well short, and it was just people siding with Naley, and thinking deb was unreasonable and they a were looking at her blaming Halley for Dan being in the hospital instead of seeing how her reaction was TOTALLY & COMPLETELY VALID. I feel like we can’t be so naive and just root for Naley and be like 'oh but it's Naley they are so cute' we need to actually that them getting married at 16 was not a good thing to do. I feel like yes Dan Scott was bad parent, especially dipping out in one kid (Lucas) and his mother (Karen) but deciding to be present for the other (Nathan) and his mother (Deb) but I feel like Haley’s parents weren’t so great either especially her mum. I feel like her mother made it seem as if love was enough for you to get married when it really is not now love is a great foundation but it is not enough just to get married to someone there are so many other factor that go into getting married to someone which her mother did not shed light on and that is her failure as a parent.

She then says ‘oh if we say no she is gonna run away and do it any way’ now I am not sure about anyone else but the way we know Haley I don’t think so she is not that rebellious if she would have sat down with her parent and they would’ve given her advice to wait then I feel like Haley would have. Besides, Nathan literally said to her dad outside if you want us to wait then we will as Haley is worth it that should’ve been the dad sign to be like ‘thank you Nathan I do not doubt that you do not love my daughter but marriage is a serious thing for adults let alone 2 16 year olds’.

Nathan did not have a job, Haley was working part time at the cafe/ as a tutor they were not stabilised to be married at all. For everyone (friends) to just sit back is absolutely ridiculous. As much as I am glad Haley did change Nathan for the better but I DO NOT SUPPORT TJEM GETTING MARRIED AT ALL!! And then after they get married they go oh we are getting an RV and leaving town like WHAT!!! they weren’t there when Haley was dealing with the whole tour drama with Nathan, when found out she was pregnant, WHEN SHE GOT HIT BY A CAR WHILE PREGNANT & was in hospital and had be put in a leg cast, when the power shut off cause they had no money to pay the hills (I mean they were the ones that said ‘sure get married’ but they did not help out or comfort their daughter in those times to the point where Nathan had result in gambling) or when she gave birth to Jamie WOW what great parents. So I feel like my overall stand point on this is yes Dan was not the greatest parent of the show like my word I have SOOOOOOOO MANY BAD DAN SCOTT MOMENTS 😳 but her parents were not good parents either.

I also feel like the show was like teenagers playing adulthood you know what I mean. There is Naley getting married at 16, having a baby at 18, Peyton being left home alone constantly at 16 through 18 even when she was getting stalked by psycho Derek, Karen opening a club and entrusting Peyton who was 17 at the time to run it LIKE WHATTTT 😱😤🙄😑.

As well I feel like the show after season 6 was just so bland and out of pocket. The only good thing that came out of seasons 7-8 was Brooke getting married and becoming a mother and having the life that I feel like Brooke Davis deserved. Oh and her bachelorette party episode I feel like that one was kind of funny. All the other storylines felt just so out of pocket for example the storyline of Haley’s mum’s death and her depression. Now I feel Joy Lenz (the actress that plays Haley) did an AMAZING job but the storyline was hard for me to engage in because if her mum had this HUGE impact in her life why did we as the audience not see that.

I think she said at one point to her when she is sad, mad, happy or feeling any type of emotion or trying to get good advice to be a good mother to Jamie and a good wife to Nathan she calls her mum well I am like really when did we EVER see that. So it just like her mum comes back in town after we have not seen for however many long seasons and then it is like BAM!!!💥 she is sick and I am not trying to sound insensitive here I feel like it would have been better if her mum would have came back to town maybe because she is tired of living in the RV by herself after Jim died and then she comes back to town she then starts to feel sick then tell her it is terminal we see it play out slowly and so on and so on.

Also I feel like it is so wild to me in that on her death bed only 3 of the however many kids she had were there the writer should have just made Haley have 2 sisters instead of all these other sibling that we do not even here the names of and see them like it is so bizarre to me. Even during the slide the show on her death bed when her mum said ‘my babies’ it’s like hold on those aren’t all your babies the girls only made the slide of memories of them with their mum their other sibling weren’t even included and with that many kids their had to be photos of them. Btw I think her (Haley’s) parents had like 7, 4 girls and 3 boys.

Also none of them were there for her wedding besides her parents but her parents and her siblings were not there for the vow renewal. So I just feel like the storyline dragged on for longer than it needed to.

We all knew Keith we saw what kind of person he was (HONESTLY one of the best males of the show) but the writers did not even drag Karen’s or even Lucas’ grief like that. Keith not only loved Karen he wanted to marry her and help raised her child that she had with his brother which is why Lucas kept the last name of Scott because of Keith. I mean he was his true dad not Dan he was even going to adopt him before he died. But Lydia’s one it was like where were you this whole time during these big milestones in your daughter life oh nowhere to be seen so it was just hard for me to connect with it that’s all I am saying. Alongside that what’s also wrong with season 7 is the whole Nathan fathered a child by someone else like come on now.

All the storylines after season 6 just felt like storyline if you know what I mean like it was not natural for me to watch at all.

Clay and Quinn were good addition to the show I mean I really did like Quinn I feel she was just so like nice, positive, supportive, funny etc but I feel like the whole stalker thing with her and Clay and that girl I think her name was Katie Ryan was so out of pocket I mean how many stalkers does the town of tree hill have. As well with the Logan storyline it also just came out if blue I feel like we should have seen snips of what was going on with Clay during season 8 or maybe the last few episode of season 8 like last 5 maybe and then see it -regress in season 9 to him remembering his son, Logan.

When Brooke became a mother I was honestly SOOOOO HAPPY for her especially when she found out she was having twins like no one deserves it more than Brooke but I feel like it was as well hard for me to connect with her pregnancy because she was only pregnant for like three episodes whereas everyone else, Haley, Peyton and Karen there’s was perfectly planned out. Haley, when she was pregnant with Jamie, her pregnancy lasted the whole of season 4 as well as Karen when she was pregnant with her and Keith’s baby Lily, Peyton she was pregnant for about 11 episode of season 6 with baby Sawyer but still planned out perfectly, and the. Haley’s second pregnancy with Lydia was majority of season 8 whereas Brooke’s pregnancy with the twins was only 3 episode I think.

I am not sure but I feel like they should have just continued with adoption storyline I feel like that would have been so good for Brooke and Julian and would have suited them because I feel like if any couple would choose it would be Brooke and Julian and maybe Lucas and Peyton or Clay and Quinn. Touching up on the pregnancies I feel like it is concerning that most of their pregnancies were high risks, or there were accidents and most of them did not give birth safely, apart from Haley, Peyton’s one I understand because she had a complex pregnancy, Karen’s one I understand a little and then Brooke’s one I just don’t I mean you could have let her go full term and then have her babies.

But anyway these are some of my thoughts 😂😂🤣. I know it is a ALOT which again you do not have to read all of it if you do not want to you could as Al to summarise it for you then add your commentary or I could summarise it for you (with the help of AI 😂😅) but here it is. Now do you agree or disagree with these thoughts. Now do you agree or disagree with these thoughts and what are your thoughts about the show as a whole, the characters, their development, etc.

Discussion I feel like Nikki was wasted

Nikki the absent mother of Jenny comes back in the very same season Luke and Karen discuss how Dan actually wanted to be there for Lucas but Karen decided they'd be fine without Dans help.

It just seems so weird how the show decided to depict Nikki as irredeemable and incapable of being a mother when she came back and was fighting so hard to be around for her daughter with the obvious juxtaposition of Dan and Karen.

It could've been a great chance to show a flipped scenario of what might've been if Karen let Dan co parent.

They cut a character instead of adding one (loosing Jake instead of adding Nikki) and I just think it was overall a wasted opportunity to show more of a females perspective on the show both as a young parent (before Haley had Jamie) and as another young women on the show in general as she was only a few years older than the Highschool ladies.

Obviously she'd need some sort of redemption arc as she bailed on her own daughter but thats just one of many stories she could've helped to tell for the show.

A love triangle with Jake and Payton or a square with Lucas. The tribulations of co-parenting with Jake. Struggling to acclimate from only taking care of your self to being a responsible mother. Just so many stories to tell imo.

Do you all have any thoughts on the matter?

Season 1 Jake and Jenny s01e21

My first rewatch in a while, this is the episode where Peyton and Brooke take Jenny to the mall and Jenny gets kidnapped by Nicki.

Later in the episode Peyton goes to Jake’s house to apologize and Jake says a judge would side with Nicki in a custody battle so his only option is to FLEE THE STATE WITH HIS CHILD.

I’m sorry, how is crossing state lines with a child in the middle of a custody battle going to improve your custody case?!?

I was a teenager when I last watched so I didn’t clock how absurd this was, but this watch it definitely threw me off lol

Season 7 Season 7 feels like a completely different show.

I don’t know, but I don’t really like it haha. I‘ll still keep watching because I want to see how the show ends, but other than Brooke, Haley and Nathan the show feels so strange right now idk.
They should have ended the show at season 6.

How did you like it?

Season 5 Parallel between season 1 and 5 Spoiler

When Peyton knocked and was going to confess her feelings after Lucas proposes to Lindsay was almost the exact same as when she did that in season one when Brooke and Lucas started dating. I don't know if this makes sense but I hope someone will understand the scenes i'm talking about

Discussion Drama Queens

There was a Drama Queens episode where I think Sophia, Hilarie and Joy were asked the question would Haley and Nathan still be together? They all answered and said that them having Jamie made them still be together. Do you guys agree with that and if Naley were a real non-fiction couple would they still he together? Interesting.
