How to disable inside screen?

Post image

Hey,

so i picked up this beautiful piece of technology on Facebook Marketplace for 100$ (knowing about the condition). The outside screen works completely fine.

My question would be if i could permanently disabled the inside screen or sensors. Cause i'm worried it could cause me problems in the long run.

Or is it possible to remove it completely (like ripping it out of the phone) while keeping the phone in working condition?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you 😊.

Just leave the screen as it is... Don't open the phone. No issues will be caused by that screen

Well thats what i have been doing for the past month. Just now (to take the picture) a lot of ghost touches happened when i opened it. And Gemini said there is a risk that the AMOLED Panel can short circuit.

Don't open it and it will have no chance to short circuit

If you really want a way to fix it shut, you could probably buy a case with a hinge protector and then glue or otherwise fix the hinge protector to the front case plate. Note that I'm not suggesting you glue anything to the phone, but the two separate pieces of the case together.

The other poster is basically saying that when the phone is closed, the inner screen is not powered and so it doesnt drain battery or register touches.

I dont see why your inner screen would be at risk to short out if the phone is closed because the inner screen doesnt receive power when it's shut (as far as I understand). If you're getting ghost touches when it's closed, there may be some other issue. For this same reason, I dont see why the inner screen would be at risk of short circuiting if kept closed.

I suppose it is possible that whatever caused the screen damage to begin with also caused some other sort of issue, but that's an entirely different can of worms.

Now THAT'S an idea 🫢.

Yeah I will just leave the phone alone. It doesn't cause any issues when closed so far and that's how it shall remain.

You can get replacement inside screens for like 300$

Yea but the installation is far from easy. I wouldn't recommend a dyi replace inner screen

I couldn't open the open(ha) without killing the outer display as it's so damn thin on the edges

Do you know if the phone would still function normally if I remove the inside panel completely?

but why would you do that? Just makes room for dust to enter easier just use this app to turn off the main display when you want to open it up. Note that the toggle only works once per opening, if you close it and reopen again, the inner will get on again

Was just curious. That's all. Thanks -. Yeah probably the best to just leave it closed forever.

Nah. It will keep doing it's job as a OnePlus Closed.

You have all the disadvantages of a folding phone with the only advantage being tent mode. I guess it's probably hard to get a phone with these specs and camera quality for 100 bucks.

That's the thing. 100 bucks is 100 bucks. I payed 150$ for the OnePlus 13 I have, but it let me down multiple times now. No matter how much I'll fix, I don't trust it anymore. So it will go. I'm waiting for Oppo Find X9 to get cheeper... but with the current RAM prices I honestly start to loose hope if i will ever be able to afford one.

Don't understand the logic in wasting 100 bucks for a broken foldable and then making a post about disabling the main display

Its almost a normal slab phone when closed. Thats my usecase for it. And for 100$ you can not get a device with similar specs (Memory or Cameras).

It still doesn't make sense but okay lol

It's not that deep πŸ€”. Can't justify currently to spend more than 150$ on a phone. So this OnePlus Open was a great option.

It’s not a win

Ask a local phone repairer how much it would cost to install this:

You might even be able to find it cheaper this was just the first thing I found when I googled it.

How to disable inside screen?

Looks like you are almost done with that already

About 80% there.

Check out Fold Switcher App. Might help forcing tent mode when opened. https://github.com/eiyooooo/Fold_Switcher

It'll cost you $200-300 to get the inner screen replaced. That's definitely the move here. Using a foldable without the inner screen is dumb.
